I agree SupaMan. My Dell at work does that and it drives me nuts. Every time CPU load increases the fan speed increases. Ugh.
okay this might sound stupid but I just want to make sure before I look towards buying this board.
http://uk.giga-byte.com/Products/Mot...ProductID=2314
It says on the website that it supports DDR2 800 memory. At the moment I only have value RAM DDR2 PC2-4200 533MHz. So does this board support it?
Or does it just mean that the max speed it supports is 800MHz?
Thanks
EDIT: Nevermind I found my answer here:

whereabouts? there's like intel something and legacy and didn't know which to chooseQuote:

if you go to the specifications page on that site you can see that it does support 533Mhz, so you should be perfectly fine.Quote:

alo everyone
i´have just buy a gigabyte DS4 for 139€, is it possible that she could be better than the DS3 at FSB level? i´m asking because i dont have a conroe yet, only a 930D.
my first choice was to buy a ds3 but it was more expensive than the ds4 so...:p:
regards
On page 10 of the DS3 manual it says if you want to use DDR2 mem higher than 667 you must install an 800/1066mhz FSB processor. Does anyone know if this MB will post with a Pentuim D 805 with PC 6400 memory and run on a divider?
Edit:
Does anyone know if this MB will post with a Pentuim D 805 with PC 6400 memory and run on a ratio?
I think it only posts 65nm cpu's (like all C2D mobo's),
I don't know if 805 is 90 or 65.
The 805 is Smithfield which is 90nm. BTW, Intel users refer to CPU/DRAM settings as ratios, not dividers. ;)
In other words you won't be able to enable the 6400 ratio - you'll only be able to use a DDR2 667/PC2 5300 ration or lower as the 805D has a bus speed of 533 MHz.
So, I have a question...
I have the DS3 right now waiting for my E6600. I also have an Ultra-120 waiting for it too with a good PSU.
This is the RAM I have:
http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...m_dual_channel
Am I going to OC well using this RAM? Should I have bought PC1000 or better????? I thought this was decent RAM for OCing an E6600.
It sound like (the more I read) that this RAM will just run at stock speeds. I was hoping for at least 350FSB or better.
Please help!
You can always lower the ratio to say DDR667 so that with an FSB of 400 MHz it will be running 1:1 hence at DDR800 speeds :)
Or if you'r ram can handle it, choose a higher ratio so that it runs faster :)
I have the same ram (OCZ-PC6400) I plan on getting Conroe when available, I just want to be sure the board wil work with this ram and an P. D805
Right I have the same question. My celeron 326 (533 FSB) just arrived today and I have OCZ PC2-6400. I'm hoping it will fire up without having to make adjustments initially. Won't the DDR2 800 stuff just automatically run slower? or do I have to manually change the settings to make it run slower?Quote:

This is with A64's, Intel FSB is 266, so substitute the 200 for 266 and do the math.Quote:

I'm not sure what memory options are in the Gigabyte DS3, but many boards have a 4:3 ratio. If you use that ratio and set your FSB to 400, your memory will be running at 300. If you use the 4:5 ratio, FSB at 400 would mean memory is running at 500.
guess2098's tests indicate the DQ6 board likes 4:5 ratio better than 1:1. It will interesting to see if the DS3 is the same way. Running 4:5 requires good RAM if you plan to run FSB at 400 or higher.
Ratios allow you to run your RAM asynchronous to the FSB. eg. If you have DDR2 533 MHz, it runs at a 1:1 ratio with an FSB of 266 (266.6 MHz x 2 = DDR2 533)
If you have DDR2 800, it runs at a ratio of 2:3 (266.6/2 x (3 x 2) ) = 800 MHz
Say you have DDR2 800, and run an FSB of 400 MHz. Originally, it would be on a 2:3 ratio, but when running at an FSB of 400, it would be running at ( (3/2) x 2) x 400 = 1200 MHz which is likely to be unstable. You can lower the ratio of the RAM to 1:1 from 2:3 , so it is running at 400 x (1 x 2) = DDR2 800 :)
it has notice that its fsb : ddr2 not fsb : dram,so:
1:2.5 which is 4:5
1:2
1:2.66
1:3
1:3.33
1:4
i think it sux cuz at 900Mhz my Corsair 8000UL is 5-7-7-20 !!! i could set it manually by enabling the timing but thats toomuch work and too little world world gain
i hope nforce 500 and rd600 dont have this fsb : dram ratio ... it messed up my timing (too lazy to change it back)

thats my 24/7 setup. BIOS F3 makes it much easier to OC since u dont have to clear CMOS after failure boot, also it makes PSU respond faster
5-7-7, lol. I don't think I've ever seen RAS# to CAS# at 7. Will the board boot if you try something like 4-4-4?
