Do you have problem with yours? Or are you doing this just to see if you could get a rev. 1.02 to verify what Mustang and I have been posting about? Well, if you are willing to do that for this purpose, that's great! Hmmm....one thing for sure as of right now, it's a complete mystery...Quote:

Smalltimer, you may already have done it, but have you tried different HD(s)? Is it (or are they) SATA or PATA HDs?
Mustang, if I could bother you just one more time. Can you look between the CPU socket and first DIMM (memory slot) and see if you can find anything printed there. It seems like most users are reporting that this is the place where the rev. number is printed following the board name (ie: A8N32-SLI Rev. 1.01). If you have time, could you look there and see if you can tell us anything otherwise. Sorry to be such a pain for ya. Hehehhe...LOL.
Its on my todo list except recently I lost one of my two HDD's in a raid0 setup. I never got to test those on my A8N32 though. I purchased replacements along with this setup and so I only have these ones to use atm. (not raid)Quote:

last night I downloaded a 340mb torrent, when it was finished and the bt client checked the file, my dual core spiked to 100% load and my mouse was moving around in jerks. I checked the file afterwards and it was not corrupt. But after I rebooted the system, upon booting the system was sluggish for a few seconds (jerky mouse cursor again) then it was normal again.
I had an A643200+ which I did the same sort of work as this one on, never had this happen to me, even on 3GB DVD torrents. So it really makes me wonder about my setup.
The mystery continues...
The only thing that bothers me is that my 30 day return or echange period will end soon and I am worried that I might find out my board has a defect or something after it ends. Still not to sound totally negative, for the most part the system works pretty smoothly. never crashes in gaming thus far, so I really shouldn't complain! :slapass:
i've read all the posts, whew that was a lot :D
Here is my system:
Revision 1.01 written on the A8N32-SLI...
170 Opt @ 2.8ghz (10x280, with 1.325v+0.2v overvoltage, 2x 100% Prime95 stable overnight with small and large FFTs)
Thermaltake Big Typhoon
2x 1gb Patriot -LLK pc3200 2,3,2,5 timing memory at 2.9v, 233mhz, 2.5,2,3,5,10,11,3 settings---2T
4x SATA hard drives none on the Silicon controller
2x DVDRW's
2x evga 6800gs's in SLI at 525/1200 each
3x Flat Panels (2-19", 1-21" wide screen)
SoundBlaster Audigy SE
Fortron 700 Watt Epsilon power supply
Lian Li v2100+ case
4x 120mm fans on rheostat
Floppy + Zip
Temps:
Room 20-22C
Mobo 36-44C (depending on speed settings)
CPU 33-54C (depending on speed settings and 100% full load=54C)
Hard drives 33-38C
i have had the A8N32-SLI now for about 3 weeks and here are my thoughts and experiences (thanks for the thread) and at the end suggestions:
1) Got the ThermalTake Big Typhoon, because I knew it would fit!
2) Gave up on BH-5 because >3.3v VDIMM is not possible, even with mod
3) Use the CnQ with 1.35-1.55v (speeds of 1.4-2.8ghz) vcore---set at 1.325+0.2 overvolt
4) Will try the CrystalCPUID to manually set the speeds and voltages (I already do this with my Dell 600m laptop for 30-50 minutes more battery life or a 15% overclock as well, if needed
SUGGESTIONS:
a) I have NEVER had to clear the CMOS on this board manually....although I HAVE had the CMOS Checksum errors (many times, when trying to overclock the BH5 RAM)----what I have found is that if you just turn off the system (sometimes by pressing the power button for 4 sec), wait a few seconds and power back on, the system automatically boots up at failsafe settings (10x200=2ghz)---and if it didn't work the first time, I waited a few more seconds and tried again---then it worked----one time I did hold down the insert key while booting---but I don't think it's required, since most of the time I don't and it still boots with failsafe settings
b) I use the 1103 bios that came with the board, and after testing all limits of components I found that I get NO stability issues with this board at all, ever!----BUT, I did sometimes get the no-warm reboot issue when I set the voltage at less than 1.3v in the bios (with or without the 0.2 overvoltage enabled), if it was overclocked past 2.75ghz
c) I have used 6600 and 6800 Nvidia cards in SLI with 84.21 drivers and they work great! ~50% increase in 3dmark scores with SLI enabled in both cases
Thanks again!
Just curious, you didn't mention what sound card you were using if any.
I'm picking on the creative xfi for compatibility issues is why I ask.
I also had rev.1.02. So far no problems at all...:woot:Quote:

I just got mine yesterday form Newegg. I'll check it when I get home.
man, its like deja vu, seems like we rewound the clock about 6 months with this debate.
i was wishfullly thinking that there would be a majic bios that fixed at least the warm boot, but if there IS a new revision that would be cool, I guess.
A revision and a new bios and i will be glad...:toast:
The board I recieved yesterday from Newegg is a rev 1.01.
I was having all kinds of weird problems that I blamed on this board, but I think I may have found the real problem so I thought I'd share.
My issues have been strange and somewhat counter-intuitive. Prime stable 8 hrs overnight and then crashing in two seconds at lunch. Stable all night friday and then won't even boot on saturday. Also it seemed like more voltage was making it LESS stable!??!
For example I would start to OC the ram at stock volts and 3-3-3-8 and it would go to 240 and then start to see errors. Not bad, so let's up the voltage and try to reach 245, 2.65v - nope, 2.7v - no, 2.75 - nothing. I tried loosening the timings but no luck. The really weird thing was that at 2.7v I would see errors at much lower speeds. It even corrupted windows, twice. I would set a conservative overclock that should have been stable(9*260 with ram at /166) and start priming and go to work and when I get home, black screen and windows will no longer boot at any setting.
I noticed that the voltages were really fluctuating but I didn't worry too much cuz many were saying the same, but what really made me think was the fluctuations increased when I enabled cpu over-voltage when most agree that it improves the situation(decreases fluctuations). So I started paying close attention to voltages and I verified that when I add voltage to ANY setting, my stability goes down... I have a 600w PSU so I start blaming the board and getting real mad and trying to figure out how to RMA or if I could swap for a DFI or something... and then I read Ic3man's prophetic words from like 20 pages back... "check everything"
So then the light comes on and I take one of the really expensive powerbars from work and plugged it in and guess what, "site wiring fault". I checked all the plugins in my apartment and of course the only one that lights up red is the one by my desk :cussing: Now, I haven't had a chance to test fully but the voltage fluctuations have diminished and early OC efforts are bringing much more normal and predictable results (2.6v=240 ; 2.65=244 ; 2.7=250+ haven't gone past 250 yet)
I really should have realized the problem earlier, but my old P3 ran on that plugin without any problems, so I didn't think it was the power. In hindsight the P3 probably draws 1/5 of the current of my new rig so the voltage problems most likely weren't showing up under light load. I'm a little worried that the dirty power affected lifetime of my hardware (mostly the ram and mobo chipsets) but mostly just happy that everything now works.
 btw, the board is a beauty, some quirks but that just gives it personality.
A very interesting scenario.Quote:

If you are having voltage fluctuation problems and instability issues, I would recommend you took a good look at all the passive cooling components on the board. Poor contact and cooling of the components voltage regulators could produce the effect you mentioned. I have not done it yet, but I would inspect every inch of the passive cooling system, remove the tape, apply proper thermal coumpound and reseat everything. Additionally if your not using the riser fan, I constructed a simple duct that forces the rear 120mm fan on my case to pull the air in through the central cooling fins of the heatpipe network. The results where staggering to say the least!
Good luck on your project :)
PS. I have been on the same path you are on now. I have ironed out almost every quirk this board has presented me with however one remains. When under heavy HDD I/O. My entire system sags to its knees. (the CPU meter shows no load) and for that I am very disapointed :(
Otherwise its a nice board :)
Has anyone else noticed that the A8N32 will not run UCCC at or above 280 1t 1:1. I have tried this on two different boards with approx 24 sets of Gskill HZ, with numerous cpus and none will go over 280 1t 1:1
Has anyone had different results?
My guess is no and this is a limitation of this board.
I just got this board this week and am now starting to try some over clocks. Evertime I boot I get this message.
"New CPU installed! Please enter setup to configure your system."
new_cpu_installed.jpg
Is this the cold start bug? I have been lurking this thread for months and have read all 62 pages and haven't seen it explained this way.
Because of this and problems with OCing I have reverted back to bois version 1009.
Also, I noticed that CPU-Z reports this as a Rev. A2 board. Is that what they all are.

Zeus...
it gives me the same error with bios 1009, annd the jumper is in the right place.
At first I disabled the "stop on F1 error" thing in the Boot options of the bios. This caused any changes I had made in the bois not to stick once the system was fully booted. Now after a change in the bios I save and exit the bois, wait for the error after the reboot, and then shut the system down at the power supply. Then I turn the power supply back on, click the power botton, and it will boot straight to windows.
Seems hookey, but I am able to set manual overclocks now. Currently up to 260 x 10 = 2600 with 1.2v + .2v = 1.41v.
I got the system in my sig set up a few days ago and I started to OC this thing yesterday. My first attempt got me 2855mhz @ 1.424v dual small FFT stable in Prime on air cooling.(gets up to 60C... yikes) For some reason unless I use CPU overvolt I'm stuck at 1.424v.
My old system had a different A8N32 and a 4400+ in it, and I'm sad to say some issues are still not fixed. That damn warm boot issue is killing me here, I can't reboot at 3ghz at all no matter what(cold boots fine), and I'm having trouble doing anything like 1.25v + .2v up to 1.3v + .2v at 2.91ghz.
EDIT: My board says Rev. 1.01G, my old one was plain 1.01 I think.

Thanks for the insight, I will experiment with some ducting and see. Is your hdd problem on pata or on the sata (nvidia or sil)?? I don't think I have seen this problem but I have had other probs with the nforce sata solution. I am thinking I may have a problem with the "southbridge" heating up... (actually I think it's more like a second northbridge but it's further south on the board so :p: ) My vid card is a monster and half the heat goes out the back but the other half blows right over the southbridge, now that you mention hdd probs I am thinking this might be the cause of my windows corruption.?Quote:

apparently there is a confirmed new Revision 1.01G of this board out...Rev 1.01G, has better video card release levers than the 1.01 that don't interfere with the CMOS switch...that alone makes this Revision a huge upgrade
I'm surprise why instead of the rev. 1.01G, Asus didn't just come up with a 1.02 or better yet 2.0, and rearrange the PCI-E x16 to a better layout (and correct what reviewers and users have been complaining for all this time). I would bet with my own life that a lot of people will sell their 1.01 and jump on the new revision (more so if it is a 2.0 than 1.02). Then I will jump on it myself.Quote:

Picked up an A8N32-SLI (Rev 1.01) and installed it this weekend in my watercooled setup...
Bios 1009 and warm boot issues immediately even with the bios all set at defaults... I have yet to get the system up and running properly, though I have noticed it's quiet ;)
I know that newer bioses don't actually fix this problem but I'm wondering if any of you found more stability or better OCing with any of the newer bioses?
 I am using the 1013 bios for long time and I did not notice any problem with it:)
Hey all,
First post so please be gentle. I am OCing an Opteron 170 CCBWE 0550 (2.6 GHz @1.35 volts) in a CoolerMaster Centurion 532 with a Scythe Flex 120mm fan on intake and exhaust. My CPU cooler is a TTBT with a Panaflo Ultra High fan. I have two XFX 7900GT video cards in SLI mode. My PSU is a 700W FSU Epsilon. My BIOS version is 1103.
1.) My idle temps are 42C for CPU and 38C for motherboard. I notice that under load (dual prime95 small FFT torture test) the temps do not rise as fast as on a DFI-Expert, but 42C idle seems kind of high. Is anybody else getting similar temps using air cooling?
2.) In order to run at 2.6GHz@1.35volts, I have to run my memory (2-1GB G-Skill PC3200 value) at 100Mhz. I can get to 2.8GHz@1.4 volts but idle temp is around 46C. Is the ASUS Probe Utility accurate? I have opened the case and held another 120 mm fan over various areas of the MB but it doesn't affect MB or CPU temps so I don't think air flow is an issue. I would guess the room ambient temp is around 22C.
Has anyone had problems seeing the temps of there 74gb Raptors used in a Raid?
I have 2 74gb Raptors on the Nforce SATA 0 and 1 set up as Raid 0. They are working fine but, I can't see them using the SMART monitor in SpeedFan or anything else. I put a 200mb segate drive I had in my old system in it last night on SATA 2 and it showed up in SpeedFan.
I do have the SMART feature enabled in the Bois for each of the Raptors.
These drive do seem to run warm, so I would like to be able to monitor them.
One other question. What is a good Defrager/Optimizer for HDDs in XP?

I thought about getting an external audio solution but after trying my regular internal card (HDA X-Mystique) in the second PCI slot I did not see the need. In a CM Stacker case Everest says the temp on the top card is 4°C warmer than the lower card but how much of that is sound card restricted air flow and how much is just heat rising from the sound card and lower video card I can't say. In any case I have yet to see the upper card top 70°C and I am in a warm room (~25°C most of the day). I was a little worried because PCI slot 2 seems to share its IRQ with the first PCI-Express slot, but I have had no issues with sound and video card 1 on IRQ 16, video card 2 on 17 with the firewire controller.Quote:

You get 4 ports off the nVidia chipset. Then there is one more port based on a Silicon Image controller than can be used with either a single SATA drive or an external port expander that run another 4 SATA drives. And don't forget about 4 IDE drives in RAID possible as wellQuote:

But I am on air in a modded CM Stacker case, sounds like most of you guys with the high mobo temps are on water so it probably comes down to air movement around the socket and chipset.Quote:

Does anyone have a 1.01G and have you found that to have higher temps?
I'm personally thinking its the passive setup not making a good connection. I alread put AS5 on the aluminum HS but when my new case comes I'm thinking of pulling the passive setup and seeing what I got. If its like anythink like other boards, it'll be POS in regards to making good connection.

2- Support 7900 Series VGA cards
3- Enhance SATA RAID compatibility
Thats it? what about the damn warm/cold boot problems
Bummer
anyone using the new 1205 BIOS??...is it a winner?
From what I've read it makes virtually no difference for most people. Basicly it seems to be "don't bother unless you're having issues with your current one".Quote:

Basicly, I don't seem to be able to use dividers on this board and I'm wondering if anyone else is having or has had the same issue? I can set up a divider and run my HHT at my rams rated speed(250), but if I set the divider to 183(11:12) and set my HTT to 275(ram should be at 250) the system won't boot. I've had the HTT up to 280 using windows overclocking stuff, and the ram is fine. CPU also has plenty of headroom. Are the dividers broken?

I'm planning on speaking to Asus tech support on Monday. I'll see if the dividers not working is RMA material or not. It seems to be a fairly irregular problem, hopefully they'll be willing.Quote:

I use to use the 133 Divider so post which Bios and which divider and some my try it out also ;)
I'm on the 903 BIOS here. Can't update at the moment because winflash and Asusflash tool don't work for me(it's a known and unsolved problem with Asus boards aparently, works for some, not for others). I'm only going to go and get a floppy drive if I know different BIOS' makes a difference.
I've used both the 166 and 183(5:6 and 11:12) dividers with my HTT set to 250 with no problem, but thats pointless. Setting my HTT to 275(rams rated at 250 so thats perfect) the thing won't boot.
edit: It's a long shot, but seeing as I'm using UCCC, and I think pfgp, is it possible this mobo hates UCCC ram? What stuff are you using Pinacle?
To update the bios use a USB pen drive, the board boots fine, and it's safer and quicker.Quote:

Another way would be a fat32 partition on your HDD and boot to the asus CD which has a boot dos, then move to the C drive(fat32) and run afudos and the bios off that....
installed bios 1205 no problems here. I did a fresh OS reload and the system is running great so far.
hi all
does somebody uses x2 4400+ (110W, older model, ADA in index) with this m/b?
asus online compatibility tables shows what from x2 family supported all processors except this one - is it typo or real compatibility issue? (strange what x2 4400+ 89W (ADV in index is supported)
thank you
Are you haveing the warm reboot issue, when you enable CPU over-volt?Quote:

No winflash programs work, and Barts BIOS upgrade CD failed for some reason. Hoping to move up to the 1009 within the next few days though, I'm currently on the 903. This is a huge obstacle to me, gotta get the dividers working or move over to DFI :(
I had an A8N32 a month ago. Cpu overclocked nice but memory was limited. 255ish Ballistix 2gig. I'm using an ultra-d and I can run my memory 295 1:1 2.6v, 280 2.5v. Too bad the ultra-d have a noisy chipset cooler :(
Shame on me...I ordered an other A8N32 :slapass:
