the board is not only cool
yes the price is cheap i woulda paid more for it
it does things that my ud7 could not do
i'm really surprised you bought it since you get gigabut freebies lol
Printable View
who said i bought it?
it wasn't a sample and i didn't buy it, a friend gave it to me because he went back to X58 gulftown and i am going to sell it after i use it and give him the money.
lol nah ill keep the UD7 no offense, besides come a few months things will change
It is better to stay course and not make wave on someone else beach:)
The ongoing competition between MIVE and UD7 will intensify with 2700K......board that can take a 2700K to 6Ghz+ benchable will take the cake. Lol
(Sorry OOT)...I like this Crosshair V formula for AMD...haven't try 990FX UD7 though:D
well from my standpoint and the reason i was talking about the future a bit, is because of SB-E, we are going to see same frequencies prob as current SB CPUs, just with quad channel and better PCI-E. i think most extreme benchers will switch from SB to SB-E, in that case its a whole other ball game. But i don't know if the SB-E will OC upto 6ghz for their best CPUs of the line, but we can hope right? If that is the case tho, then you will see all attention shifted towards SB-E, just as it happened in the P55 to X58.
BTW loud, why would i use the M4g-z if i have a sniper 2 in my main rig? lol :)
anyways X79 is another ball game, hopefully we will see some great products, interesting asus hasn't shown any pics yet.
Hi again all, Can first ask does this board support quad SLI ? as in 4 GTX 580? and what do we all think about SLI on this board for gaming not benching?? Also which system do you think would be better for games, this with sandy at 5ghz or the X58 rampage 3 by ASUS with gulftown at 4.6ghz. Both systems I would be using TRI or Quad SLI.
Thanks for your opinions on this.
Oh I don't know, maybe it's because it tends to clock better, has a much more polished bios, the 2133 divider actually works with a broad range of different memory, and lets not forgot the price:D
Plus I like the fact that Raja and Shamino are there to answer any technical details and provide excellent support whenever certain issues need to be addressed (3d01 bios from Andre)
Honestly I have never been an Asus fan prior to P67/Z68 and usually have used nothing but Gigabyte boards with no problems, but I think Asus's implementation of P67/Z68 was executed very well, whereas Gigabyte. . . . well not so much. Hopefully they redeem themselves with X79, but until then I think I would like to try one of their AMD boards (UD5/7).
and sin, I don't even have a M4G, just the P67 M4, but everything I have seen seems to indicate it is a nice board despite the fact that it is a MATX board and has no NF200, and as for the Sniper 2, I think there is a larger portion of overclocker's on these forums than gamers, and having to pay extra for things like the Killer NIC and Creative audio is a moot point to them:shrug:
pazza i tried TRI SLI it just dont worth it
3DM11
1 card 8300k
2 card 14360k
3 card 15k+
as u add perf gets lower...best thing u can do is stay on SLI as nvidia is optimizing it on 285.XXX drivers
of course inmo
for this reasong im selling my third card, for 24/7 just no worth it
We never know what 2700K will bring but one thing for sure is any cpu inside a retail box has 50/50 chances to clock 59X+:)
Actually, Intel with its billion $$ can make it happen...anything
Guys for gaming do I stay on SB with this board or go back to X58 with gulf??? opinions please especially from those who have owned both.
How well clocked? :) My R3E has been for a month in RMA now and I'm getting bored soon..
Currently using my old trusty i7-965 at stock with dual 580 SLI - everything works quite fine. But I have i7 990X 4.5 GHz HT off, R3E, 3x2 GB 1800 HyperX, 3xGTX 580..I think that I don't have much perfomance boost when going over 4.5 with my current 990X. R3E has been quite a piece of junk for me. :P and 580 3-way SLI just runs damn hot on air.
Should I go for MIVE/-Z and 2500/2600K from Gulf with 3 cards since I mainly do gaming with my rig? I wouldn't want to get a "downgrade" either (6 to 4 cores). And X79 is coming out soon as well..
Does MIVE have hot IOH (or NB?) temps with 3 cards? This was a huge problem with my R3E.
Honestly you don't need more than 4-4.5Ghz for gaming... I'm still on my gulfie at 4.2, notice no difference with the SB rig at 4.8... both with GTX480s... SB is less power hungry, less heat and cheaper. That is what makes it interesting...
I would wait what X79 brings, but Tri SLI on SB is not a good idea...
I wont disagree that GB could have done better with LGA1155, and i do agree the Sniper 2 is a waste of money for overclockers, but that doesn't mean it can't OC and have good 3D efficiency.
The M4G-Z OCes the same as my UD7 does, BLCK is like 0.05mhz higher because of the skews i guess, but its not the same board as the M4E. Its VRM is much different, except for the same PWM and same inductors, the M4G-Z is closer to the P8PZ68-Deluxe with a three transistor design using TrechFETs, which are very good quality anyways, the M4Gz uses phase doublers like the Sniper 2 and GB boards(the M4Gz uses 4 phase of the Chil PWM, i believe its an 8-phase Chil PWM), those 4 phases goto 4 different ICs, each of those ICs contain 2 drivers and 1 doubler, so 1 IC per 2 phases. its actually a neat design, but its not the M4E, the M4E uses different FETs and one of those Proadlizer caps as well as Chil drivers directly hooked to each set of 4 FETs per phase(their use those IRF CanPAK OptiMOS if i am not mistaken, that is correct right Raja?). the SF is divided into half on the M4Gz, hence the max 550khz SF, but it makes no difference, transient performance is probably very high like on the M4E and LLC is better than UD7.I will give it that. While the M4Gz might require a bit, maybe 0.02v less than my UD7 under load, and since the UD7 has to set a bit higher voltage b/c of its LLC, yea I can say i can get the same clocks on a bit better voltage. But my max clocks aren't more than 10-20mhz different and that is just because of BLCk Skew. i actually had better OC luck with the Sniper 2, its LLC works just like it should, even with 10 levels. I haven't really done much more testing than that on the Sniper 2 tho except for max clock, it was actually very easy and simple to OC, except it has no buttons. There is no BS in that statement.
i am not going to talk bad about ASUS nor GB, for the past 5 months i haven't said anything bad about ASUS. i am just saying i am more interested in X79.
Have you tried pushing the Gene-Z much?
The differences between the MIVE-z and MIVG-z look relatively minor once you get past the format and connector difference.
For someone who does not intend to utilize more than one pci-e slot.. How does this board differ in OC ability and stability?
The only attribute I found that should affect it's OC would be the 2phase vs 3phase memory power. How significant is this?
Would any of you miss the deprecated OC tools listed? They seem nice but might go unused anyway.
A full list of spec differences can be found at the link below..
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...mus-IV-Extreme
yea i don't think the difference between the M4E and M4G will be much in the end unless you are benching. yes i did push it, i messed with it and the BLCk skews too like in shaminos guide on KPC.
yes G third card added its like OMG cant be so bad, look Cole on the nvida thread

he is at 1030 CORE on tri SLI of GTX580 and at 5700 CHIPS getting 15k
look at me at 5GHZ with 981 core 14362...
Something doesn't seem right. I get 15K with 3 570s at 5GHz.

BTW, for those of you talkin about SB-E, just wait til you see the next ROG board ;)
lol, that just being mean now Raja. SHOW US PLS!!!
All in good time :)
Guys I need help, trying to run 580's sli and tri sli on this board. The cards are in the correct slots etc, bridges in place, driver enabled says SLI available. I try enable it and either A the control panel crashes or B the 00000000x 7E error and BSOD. I have tried and get the same error etc evan with stock settings. I have tried a couple of old drivers and the new beta ones still no good. All the cards work OK on there own. I evan get the same with a fresh windows 7 install. Is there a setting in bos or something else I am missing??? Thanks
have you tried to put the extra power connector in the motherboard for your GFX,or set voltset in bios at NF200
Yeah I have. I just installed Win 7 32 bit clean instead of 64 bit and in worked first time. Not sure what to do now as all my stuff is on 64 bit version
Guys under PCH on bios there is a setting called precision event timer. If I disable this normal SLI works consistently which it did not in the past. Any ideas what this actaully does??? any one else disabled it???
whit cross is it ok

hey guys..two smd on my motherboard just blew up. I was benching under a chiller @ -20C at 1.66v 5.8ghz and 1.7v vdimm 2250 when i heard a pop and to surface mount devices i saw fried. However i checked the second i heard and there was nothing wet since i insulated it perfectly with plumbing tape... shop towels.. and eraser.
second motherboard gone in a week :(
not even gonna bother with rma.. just gonna buy me another one from microcenter
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/5861/1006334m.jpg
i don't think this was a short due to water... i thought 1.7v+ was all good since i saw so many of you guys doing it :(
bellow the cap two surface mount devices located on the right near the first ram slot, which are suppose to have 3 solder points are fried... there are burn marks around those two smd. I cannot boot with the board anymore either. BTW i was using 1.8vdimm also... was a mistake on my post from last night.
I was running 3dmark11 and it popped during the physics portion
EDIT: when i boot it goes from 19 to 22 to 53 and either gets stuck on the cpu or ram.. however i tested the ram on my 1366 rig and it works perfectly
i hope the chip isn't dead.. it was the first one i had that went above 53 multi
yep..
vccio iirc was 1.16v not that high i don't think. Just checked it today again to see if it would boot. It does, but if i increase ram frequency past 1866 i will get a shutdown followed by the same post codes i mentioned before and refusal to boot.
Gonna buy another one tomorrow :(
You think i put to much volts into it for 3d benching? so i can avoid it on my next board if that was the case
That is not that high, but I have never really needed more than 1.1 and usually about 1.0875 iirc.
RMA that sucker and get a new one, no reason to buy another one.
Personally I feel that your volts are well within acceptable range and nothing to extreme, do you have another cpu to try?
Guys I sortedmy TRI SLI problem. It was simple disable Intel HPET in bios. Sorted!!!
Hello,
I've got a strange problem going on - would you guys be able to help me please?
This issue does not happen every time so it's a bit of a difficult one for me to sort.
When I boot up the rig, it will reach the stage of booting into Windows 7 (just where the bootup logo changes to go onto the desktop)
and the rig seems to freeze. The HD light stays on (solid) and there is no response at all from the rig. Reset button will not reboot the rig I need to hold the power on button
or power off at the PSU.
It "seems" to be 80% related to cold boots. Like last night I rebooted the rig 3 times and no problems. This morning I turn on the rig and I get two failed boots.
SPECS:
Mive ex
BIOS: 1850
2600K @ 4.8 (on water Idle temps 33-36c, Load 67-69 MAX)
Windows 7 x64
The rig has passed both Prime95 for 8 hours and also a few cycles of LinX. Idle stability seems to be solid, been using the rig for a while now and
no BSOD during general usage.
Here are my BIOS settings. If anyone is able to advise please on what maybe causing this issue. (thanks)

voltset to mem ;) giv dem noget mere ;)
disable all c stat
why does your vdimm read 1.627v when set to 1.65v? that could be it... i think martin was trying to say your memory isn't getting enough voltage..(if it was rated for 1.65v) disable all the power saving features and then try to boot again.
If you have one take a dmm and measure dram voltage to see what it is during startup.
cheers
ups disable all speed step
Hi thanks for replying.
hm... well my dimm voltage has never shown 1.65 even with cstates turned off.
I thought maybe it was lower as it was unneeded and I understand that lower Dimm Voltage is better/safer?
But I will turn them off and see if this weird issue goes away.
Can I ask... should I disable all c states including the Package C State Limit (C6) ??
I do have a dmm. But would like advice on using it if anyone can help please?
This is the dmm I have...

Attachment 120798Hi,
I have to say I'm not confident with a dmm which is why I want to get clarification and know I'm going to do this right.
Q1: So I turn the dial to the area marked on the picture and connect the probes to the ones shown in red and black representing the red and black leads.
Q2: Then once I have connected the motherboard probe cable I test it by connecting in no particulate order the red and black cable to the cable ends?
Q3: And I can take the reading at any time or during boot up etc?
thanks
Hi guys!
I changed my UD4 with MIVE and i bought a new 2500K because my previous is dead (my previous was a X55 on UD4)
After a lot of tries i didn't make to boot in to windows desktop with more than X50 multi...
When i try to boot with more than X50 the system freezes at windows logo and the debug led shows AA..is there any chance to boot in the desktop or is a wall?
Thanks!
Sounds like a bad chip mate!

Fix list basics are:
1) S3 resume with CPU PLL OV Enabled is patched - should work on most DRAM (cheaper ICs may have issues).
2) Ivy Bridge Support enabled.
bios 2001 is ok ;)
http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/5923/nybios2001.png
Yes! MIVE is a great motherboard..
I enable INTERNAL PLL but nothing happens, exactly the same thing...with more than X50 the system freezes at windows logo and the debug led shows AA..
the only thing that i noticed with INTERNAL PLL enable is that the system is more stable at high frequencies...
Maybe is a bad chip... after 10 cpus this is the worst (the best was a x55 )
Yea, sounds like you hit your mutli wall if you have Internal PLL enabled.
Hi guys,
My system currently has a P8P67 Pro with the defective sata ports. I didn't get around to replacing it until last week when I emailed Asus and asked if I can upgrade while I do the replacement. Asus agreed to upgrade my board to the Maximus IV Extreme ( chose that over the Z68 as I do not need the functions of the Z68 ). Now I'm wondering which drivers do I need to install? I am already planning to cancel out the Bluetooth and was wondering if there's anything else I can cut back on? Saw the posts above and will be flashing to the 2001 bios as well.
u can use your actual install no problems at all
or
u can do a fresh install and put
latest chipset drivers from intel
MEI interface
intel SSD latest drivers
u can find all here

Hello folks :)
Just updated to 2001. Seems ok so far.
A few Q's for anyone who will kindly help :)
Q1: For a 2600k 4.8 OC what 'VRM Fixed Frequency Mode" is best to use?
Q2: Until I load the 'Extreme OC Profile'. There is nothing under 'Turbo Mode' with 'Maximum Power' ENABLED.
But with 'Extreme OC Profile' loaded there is a 1023.875 value in the 'CPU Core Current Limit'.
Should this be different for a 4.8Mhz OC? or just enabled and left on AUTO?
Thanks :)
bios 2001 is looking pretty good
all of this was directly booted from the bios, no aisuiteII this time, vanilla XP Pro with appropriate tweaks and no wazza yet

also worth mentioning that I was able to boot 108 bclk directly in to Windows with this bios, without touching any skews, curious to try 3DMark2001 on it
test whit x56 it can read win7 in, but it freezes at x57 on the desktop

believe it is your mem, test them one at a time, in all your slots
i don't like bios 2001, or maybe it's just my chip :(
blck clocking is more sporadic than it was on 1850... on 1850 when you reach max blck it was rock solid... you can turn it off and it will still be there.
on 2001.. skews behaved unpredictably... i tried booting 106.1 which was doable on my chip... it wouldn't, got frustrated, turned off computer for a few hours and bam.. booted to 106.1
http://hwbot.org/submission/2212611_
then i turn it off again... now it failed to overclock, and tried booting with 106.1 and it doesn't want to do it again
it feels like i'm on gigabyte again :shakes:
I still using bios 0210 on my board. Shall I go for beta 0902 or 0403?
System in sign.
get a new bios ;)
the latest bios 902 yields faster boot time & TurboV also loads faster!

Hava any one test it yet?
what the?
2001 has xtreme tweak so i assume it was one of andreyang's 01 specific bios? what is this 1904 now? what was changed? still for 3d01 right? (alot of question marks lol)
woot ? 1904 ???
wasnt 2001 ???
another bios.
but now I'm making trouble.
Bios 2001 refers to a previous bios to tweak for 3dmark 01, or is the new bios in asus site bios is like 2011?
The changes that have bios 1904?
sry my english
[ 1904 ]
----------------------
1. Improve memory compatibility
2. Improve system stability
3. Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- CPU Support
So what bios should I use for 24/7 stability? I have new m4e board, just not install yet. Plan to do later today
1904, because of improved system stability
lol so obvious
Damn and I just updated to 2001 , here i go agagin trying to rember all those settings , i wish they would let you save bios settings to a flash drive , like this giga boards do
when someone flashes to this.. could you tell me if this has extreme tweak option? or is it a regular beta bios from asus... sort of getting confused with which bios is which :(
all i see on asus website is 2011 bios..
Yea, I here you on the bios settings. I am still writing settings down between bios flashes when I thought the point of the load profiles was to fix that. If you cant use it between different bioses then its only partialy helpful.
Flashes to what? 1904? 2001? I flashed to 2001 a few days ago and it has Extreme Tweak option. I then read in this thread today that Asus has Bios 2011 on their site for download. I went to support.asus.com and click to download Bios 2011 which is the latest dated 10-06-11. When you download the bios and unzip the file actually says 2001??? So is there really a 2011 bios because I can't find it????
Will test 1904 tonight when I get home.
I try to do some bench but just get "cpu over voltage error!" Hit F1 to run setup when I try to boot?
What have I missed to switch of or change in bios. I happend 1.5V+ on Vcore.
Thanks in advance!
i just load extreme profile.. but if you want to do it manually, turn off voltage montoring.. in the tweaking tab.. go to cpu behavior and there should be a setting for max power usage for cpu and an option to increase amps to cpu... put the first to on, the second put it up to as high as you can.. iirc.. it's like 1024.xx or something like that
there is also an option for cpu voltage near the vcore setting.. put that to enabled.
sorry i'm not on my computer right now :(
You have to set the CPU-Voltage at the "monitor for the voltage" to "ignore" !
Will test 1904 bios 2moz! Bulldozer wednesday so sandy going on side for abit!
i have bios 2001 runing since days very good so far, dunno what is this of up and down on bios version...
so far been trying this 2001 bios , so far stable as 1850 , i havent really been able to bring any voltages down . . passed 20 linx and 2 hours of prime like notha
Just had a massive shock i rang about changing my b2 board for b3 board and they said i could swap it for a Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z Intel Z68 no extra charge direct swap! Made up!
just tried flashing to 1904 and am getting "image outdated" it's not letting me flash to it from bios 2001
