I dont see how a bios can unlock a locked chip. I dont think thats possible? though its already possible with turbo boost enabled with auto ratio selected.

btw, no offence fire4wire, very nice of you to upload this bios, but that file could be anything. I know its probably kosher but heads up guys be carefull, dont just install a bios till you know its right.:up:

Hey guys can anyone give me any insight on this BCCode 117. I didn't get any problems until I tried pushing up to 4GHz. And was prime stable @ 24hrs. I had zero BSOD's or reboot up to 3.8GHz, but once I tried 4GHz running Seti@Home w/CPU & GPU crunching, bamm!! BSOD's. Even if I back it down to my previously stable 3.8, 3.6, 3.2GHz settings, I get the error. Last night I uninstalled my nvidia drivers, so far no problems, but I also backed down to 2.8GHz.

Any idea's. I saw something about the video card and a small PSU, but I'm using a 1KW PSU, with a measure max wall pull of 620-700W total. @ 4GHz @ 2.8GHz I'm pulling about 410W from the wall.

Take a look on the first page at post number 7.

1)3.2 may or may not require a voltage increase. More than likely it will only take a little bit of a bump.

2) Probably 4ghz or 4.2 with Turbo Enabled. No HT Enabled tho. CPU would get to hot. It really depends on what kinda chip you get. But water cooling is the only way to go on the i7 imo

- All I did for 3.2 was change my bclk to 160, set my vcore to 1.14 and all is good.
- Also with my dominators at 1600 i run qpi at 1.35 and dimm at 1.65.

I'd be inclined to say that you corrupted some key OS files while trying to overclock. That is the only logical explanation why you are still getting problems even after you backed your overclock down.

Max you will be able to keep with the TRUE is about 4GHz. Realistically, the sweet spot is probably 3.8GHz. Over 4GHz any app that loads all cores and threads 100% will cause your temps to go through the roof. You should not need a voltage increase for 3.2GHz but I would not leave the voltage on Auto as that will cause your voltage to increase to 1.425V quite likely. Just set it manually to something like 1.12V or around there and try.

Thank for the quick replies. Good to hear 3.8 is the sweatspot was looking for a 3.6-3.8 Overclock anything above little worried what long term effect will do to the chip. I wanna run HT since ill do some 3d rendering and HT will help so i doubt anything above 3.8 will be easy to get. Now just need monday to come for my system to arrive.

Received my new 6GB kit from Corsair and so far so good. Running right now at 7-7-7-18-1T at 1600MHz. No problems at all. I guess I'll know tomorrow if the cold boot problem is gone and/or if that DET DRAM hang repeats.

THanks I was just sitting here debating on wiping my comp again, and starting over. Maybe I should stop using Raid 0, instead just use one HD again.

Your chances of corrupting data with one hd, when fooling around, is the same. I mean the hd didn't fail did it??

Not true. Raid 0 at least doubles your chances of failure or corruption.

On a different note, new memory timings 7-7-6-17-1T. No cold boot problem this morning. Looks like it was the memory after all :D

No the drives are fine, I just believe when I BOSDed @ 4GHz it corrupted data, it works fine after a wipe and reinstall.

Due to hardware failure maybe. I invite you me to show me otherwise with solid proof that they are 2x more likely to fail when only writing data and not goofing around with crazy oc's.

Now, I'm not saying this is per-say because of Raid, and there can be many other factors leading up to it.

We ought to get back on topic now anyway...

Edit: I see you edited your post. I think we are on the same page now. It's not Raid alone that does this, but Raid in combination with things such as tinkering with heavy OCing etc does run a higher risk of corruption than a single disk, hardware failure aside.

Chayos, I cant remember if it was you, so many posters in this thread but someone posted their overclock with pcie at 110 in bios iirc.
This can also corrupt your os on sata drives. if overclocking pcie its always best to do it from within windows and not in bios if using sata drives. the same does not seem to happen with ide drives for some reason.

I can recommend to use a seperate hd and OS in diagnosticstart mode when OC. ;)

I don't think the PCIE overclock was me. I usually have mine set @ stock speeds. I learned that a while ago when my PCI didn't have a lock on an older MB that I had.

So far after the reinstall I've got it @ 3.6GHz, thats probably fast enough for me. I don't need to try and set a record for Seti@Home, which is why I was pushing the CPU. But I'd rather be stable than not.

I have a question - I feel like an idiot at the moment, but I had a nice little spring cleanup at my house, and I ended up putting some of my loose cd's into a CD case, and I checked most of the sleeves for S/N's but I threw out the ASUS CD Sleeve and now I don't have the SN for X-Fi, is there any way to bypass this or anyone have an SN that I could use?

Is there a way of me getting one from ASUS maybe?

Although I agree that water cooling is a ton better than air cooling.
I think phase cooling is the best way to cool a chip like this.
Mine runs at -45C or so, depending on how hard I push it.

hey anyone knows how its with SLI on this board? like running your second card in the 3d slot, becouse u want to use your soundcard? my rampage manual just told me the 3d slot is very low bandwith, or is this no problem, and will my 2 280's run fine?

The last slot will only do x8 speed at most. You'll probably won't notice it in games, but it's indeed slower than x16 speed. If it bothers you too much you can always run slot 1&2 @ x16 and use the last slot for a PCIe sound card.

So it turns out that my RMA sticks that came from Corsair are all faulty. I'm starting to see T_Flight's point on Corsair sucking badly. How can they send me new DRAM only to have each stick fail Memtest86+ 2.11?

They all fail in test 5, after a few passes. Not in the first pass, but after about 5 passes they start to produce few but steady errors in tests 5 and 6. Going back to my faulty kit (-1 stick ATM) I do not have any problems.

Furthermore, the new kit clocks worth $hit. It won't run X.M.P. profile at all, even at all defaults, and it cannot clock past 1650MHz.

I'm failing to see what this sticks are "dominating".

My original kit asside from the one faulty stick can clock up to 1900MHz stable with 9-9-9-24-1T timings (7-7-7-16-1T at 1600MHz). The replacement cannot even run 1600MHz (rated) stable.

Anyway, I'm back running dual channel now using my remaining two good sticks from the original kit. Here is an Everest screen with the current settings, 4GB 1600MHz 7-7-7-16-1T, 4GHz Uncore using 1.45V QPI/DRAM.

Pc finally arrived gona build in a few days and begin ocing. Anyone have any ideas on what the best batches of 920s are. I got a 3841A448 any ideas what to excpect.

Did the new rma sticks atleast run in tri channel? If they still do not then i think you may have a problem with your cpu

If you check the pic of my test bench you'll see there's enough space to fit 3x dual slot GPU cards in there. Your GPU + 1 PCIe sound card should be no problem.

Im running 3x kingston hyperx Dual channel sticks, they run as trichannel and own my dominator 1800mhz sticks. also I bought a set of crucial tri channel value ram which will run tight 7-8-7-18 @ 1600mhz, they cost only £33 gbp for 3gb of tri channel...go figure? I havent even pushed the voltages on these yet. 1.72vram.

These will go even tighter.

No, they ran tri-channel. The DRAM was just faulty. Even a single stick would error out in Memtest86+ 2.11.

Yeah, I'm not too impressed by Corsair sticks. They cost me an arm and a leg when I bought them ($400 CAD after taxes) for the tri-channel kit and to know that dirt cheap memory does almost as well, and that these have been failing like this...well, it makes me very weary of buying Corsair again. I always ran Mushkin before and I never had problems with them.

thats the same symptoms i had with my r2e running my gt's at 7-8-7-20
but worked fine at 8-8-8-24

it wasnt the ram
it was the board.
same memtest86 failure..

suspect the board dram voltages are having a lot of flux

I see. The only problem with this is that my original Dominators run fine then with the exception of the one stick which is physically dead (i.e., does not work at all any more). Also, increasing the timing to 8-8-8-24-2T even 9-9-9-24-2T did nothing to remove Memtest errors. I really think this time it was the DRAM and not the board. But we will see soon. The new shipment should be on the way today and I told them to test the sticks before sending them.

Edit: Not really related to above but I upped the Uncore speed to 4.2GHz. Check out the L3 cache speed...nice improvement over the previous speed :up:

Please see the settings below. The only thing that is different and that is showing up incorrectly in TurboV is the QPI which is actually running at 1.56V. QPI/DRAM is automatically set for me by the board even though it shows that the manual settings is 1.35V. This is a strange bug (but good) when using the X.M.P. profile as the basis for an overclock.

My Uncore is running at the same speed as my CPU now, 4.2GHz. I've spent many hours testing the memory in both the triple channel configuration (while I still had my triple channel going nicely) and dual channel with no problems so far. If I down the Uncore to 4GHz the QPI drops to 1.44V roughly.

Well, I am thinking to leave this for 24/7. Normally I would use it and did use it for benching only as I know it is above Intel's recommended maximum but once I ended up going back down to dual channel DRAM I did notice an improvement when compiling and a few other places so I kind of like it. If it still has the same real life improvement when I put back my third stick then this will stay for 24/7.

Here is a CPU-Z screen with core and memory by the way...still waiting for that darned 3rd stick to come in now. These settings were stable with triple channel, just the memory was defective.

I have tested lot of parameters and those seems stable and nice because my PC seems fluent for 24/7 and gaming...

But i wonder if, as u can see, the QPI link is higher than the core frequency... is a really good or bad parameter ???

incidently, a friend sent me 3x 940's to try [hoooray!] so I can compare with the one I have they are all oem, first one was a dog, its like a furnace, second one is better than my retail, it does better on water than my retail does on dice!:eek: havent tried the third one yet, sad thing is I have to send them all back......[boooooo]

But He did say I can keep the best one in exchange for my pig of a retail chip...[hooray!]:)

has asus attended to the memory clocking issues with the r2e ??
apparently the r2e could not achieve the same memory clocks as other asus motherboards and it required a new revision not just a bios update??

edit:, also how can one differentiate between the old and new r2e mobo's ?

The point is really that the chips ive tried including the 920 have wildly varying tolerances. of course that knowledge is far from new but it does answer a few questions now ive had the opportunity to see for myself.

Look at djanehs last screen, to run at those voltages stable with ht on tells me He has a very nice chip, some of these chips are very leaky some are not so bad. im trying to work out if its the imc in the chip that is the most likely contributing factor dependant on overclockability, my 'walls' have looked like memory walls but the memory is ok which tells me the imc is the hurdle. or as Cstkl pointed out very early on the qpi card set up Asus went for on this board or a combination of the two.

I probably didnt make a lot of sense there but im sure you get the idea of what I mean. This thread is about the R2E its relationship with the cpu and memory is crucial of course. I'm now thinking that this board is so finely tuned, its not allowing for intolerances like some of the other boards are, hence were seeing higher oc's on other boards. I dont believe now that this board is incapable I think it just needs a more fluent combination of parts for it to shine.
for example this board shines with the 965 chip [not all] but some, having those extra multis allows more tolerance.:)

LOL, I was just kidding as well. Your are lucky though, getting a mulligan like that. But it's true what you say, I think this board, made for overclockers, isn't so special. I can run my chip at 3.8 1.27v w/HT, but to get any higher requires a hell of a lot more voltages (think mid 1.4's). I sure hope they can get that sorted. Mind you I haven't tried the chip on another board so my opinion is slightly slanted.

Help guys! I accidently pulled out the little wires on the lcd poster! Now I don't know hish wire goes in which slot in the little socket!! I thought I put it in right, but now it lights up all the time even when the pc is of and says pc init on the screen all the time.....:( Can someone post a pic of theirs??

Well, here is the thing. The way I see it there is a two fold problem here...

1. With previous Intel chipset boards, you had a variety of chipsets some of which were considered high end, others mid range or mainstream. Take for instance P35 vs. X38 or P45 vs. X48. However, with the introduction of X58 there is only one chipset and every manufacturer is using it. This in turn dilutes the chipset's appeal as high end and it indeed makes it mainstream, that is for anyone who wants to or owns an i7 platform. Therefore, there is nothing really to differentiate the high end boards like R2E, DFI, or Giga Extreme from the average run of the mill boards like P6T, UD5, entry level DFI, MSI, etc. The only differentiation point is couple of bonuses you find on certain boards over others. That's it, and unfortunately that is not enough to call any board based on the X58 chipset trully high end. They are all high end (or rather mainstream now).
2. I would definitely not go so far as to say that other boards give better clocks. I do not think that they do and I have not seen evidence of this either. They all clock about the same in terms of the BCLK, they all experience roughly the same issues with memory, Uncore, etc., just depends on how much people write about it vs. how much they keep quiet. Yeah, R2E has some issues, but I do not think limiting the overclocks is one. Prior to BIOS 1104 there was a distinct advantage of running non-R2E boards due to the turbo throttle issue but this has since been resolved which now makes the R2E "just like every other board out there". Pretty crappy if you ask me, but an unfortunate byproduct of how Intel decided to treat Nehalem launch.

Pay close attention to the EVGA Classified now. I will bet you that not only will it not blow away the competition motherboards, it may still not even come out as the best overall board. There is no best if everyone is basically the same and the Classified will have to work with the same X58 chipset and with the same Core i7 chip. No surprises there, no miracles either. Don't expect that any board will give you "more" overclocking headroom unless you are maybe looking at the ultra narrow market segment of trully extreme overclockers going just for records and no stability at all.

Just my $0.02.

Theres more to it than just the chipset, what set the x48 rampage extreme apart from all the other x48 boards in terms of overclocking? Its the clean power delivery through the phases.

We are definitely seeing in terms of overclocking the Dfi and evga even gigabyte to some degree, better overclocking results. im talking in terms of numbers achieved and also you have to have some kind of stability to run for example a multi threaded benchmark lets take wprime 1024. that app will run your cpu at near on 100% per core per thread even. or 3dmark vantage when you reach the cpu tests on that benchmark your cpu and memory needs to be pretty much stable or the pc will freeze or crash.

Im very interested to see what happens with the Evga classified board, there has been a lot of hype and we know that these things get hyped way over into legend status before they even get fully tested in the consumers world, however the guy behind the technical design of that board is probably among the top three or four overclockers in the world no question and if anyone can get the platform working well its Him.

Hey guys I recently upgraded my ram to 12 gb of Dominators 1600.

I had to place the timings specified by the Corsair forums so that I could run them at 1600. My question is this, if I want to OC my cpu will I need to change the timings set on my DIMMs? I'm not looking to OC further than 3.8Ghz.

Ive looked over this thread like crazy but I have some questions that only some of the better overclockers can answer.

Im using the bios 1104 and have tried several methods of overclocking. Post #7 that uses hyper threading off allows me to do blk 200 x 21 with turbo mode on stable. With this setting I get great 3dmark06 scores but crappy 3dvantage scores. I allow hyper threading and my temps go up and I have to lower my blk to 193(stable). Now I get better 3d vantage but crappier 3dmark06. The scores are very noticable and I would really like to know how to get my computer to be the fastestest it can be and not for just one app. Is turbo mode worth it? Is hyper threading just hype?

Btw I also didnt get much performance increase when I added a second 4870x2! All the $ I wasted :( grr

hmm ure issue is nothing about overclocking bro

its just on how os and benchmarking programs utilizes the cpu core and ht.
vista i know for one is a headache with HT
reason is vista see's 8 threads cpu 0-7
so when a program stresses 2 cores like 3dmark06 gc test
it runs cpu 0,1 two threads but actually its just one core.
and hence worse scores with ht on.

gaming overall .. off ht. with ht get a lot of stuttering.

so think somebody mention here before until os and software s knows how to utilize the cores more efficiently.. for gaming suggest to disable ht.
unless ure into scores only.

xp however u get full on gc scores and cpu go figure but in ure case crossfire x wont work

HT is only a real benefit with encoding or rendering. If you don't rely on that, then its perfectly fine for you to disable HT.

I'm finally stable with my 920 i7 on this motherboard and also 12GB of ram (corsair dominator, see sig for exact spec)..

Currently i leave everything on auto, except ram i have at 1.65v and qpi volts at 1.35v, i've turned off the spectrums.. The only other setting change i made was setting the ram at 999-24, though i could probably hit 888-24 ok as well..

This is all at 2.66ghz...

Can anyone shoot me some changes i should make to run ok at 3.2ghz?

I've tried the OC cpu option, where you can pick say 3.2ghz manually from the list, and it sets cpu volts at 1.31, but i froze on loading vista.. (i set ram to 1604 manually)

I'm now trying a blck at 166 and ram at 1604 or so and see how that goes.. (i also set the cpu volts to 1.35v, qpi still at 1.35v).. update.. this setting froze on me during a video render test.. ( i did notice in the bios the cpu volts were over 1.35v, perhaps i need to up the cpu volts is all? I thought 1.35v was the max safe limit for the 920)

I AM SO FRUSTRATED with this board. So I had issues getting the board to post. the board would always only light up the HD_LED next to the pata connector and the BIOS LED. eventually after playing around with the memory location (A2) I was able to post the board and thought "man I should update the bios because of all these querks" .... well I went to 1104 and it posted once... now I cant get the board to do anything but have the HD_LED light up and the bios light on... anything sound similar here? anyone else have this issue? or similar? I did get it to post once more (1104) with no video card and one stick of memory in the last blue slot. any info or would be greatly appreciated please do tell! I also get the same results if i force BIOS #2 (which I didn't update)

Do you have a fan plugged into the CPU fan header? Is your 8-pin plugged in?
Is your rig in a case? Take it out and put it on the plastic shell that came with the mobo.
Do you have any cards other than your video? Including the sound? Take it all out except for one video card.
Do you have another PSU to try? Even a smaller one? This mobo is very picky with the PSU.

Right after I posted this I went to grab some dinner and thought the only thing I haven't tried was a different PSU (even though im typeing on a PC running on that PSU) so I picked up an Antec 550w from best buy (gatta love the BBY rental policy) and it instantly fired up and works AMAZINGLY man do i love that animated bios logo.... so looks like you nailed it with that 4th recommendation thanks for the support!

SO... does this mean something is wrong with my enermax galaxy? or does it just not like this PSU? should I RMA the PSU? is anyone else running the EGX1000EWL in their R2E system? or look for a new PSU? if so what should I get? Im looking to OC to at least 3.6-4.0 and im running 3x285GTX. I was looking at the Corsair 1000HX or is that not enough? what do you guys think?

Man, I'm SOOO glad you figured it out! IMHO a lot of problems with this board are due to it's narrow selection of (undocumented) compatible PSUs. I think as long as you have the Antec from BB, you might as well RMA it and see if the replacement works better. Worst that can happen is you have the same problem.

I use a PCP&C 750W and mine runs like a champ; I'm very blessed in that regard. Maybe you should look through some of this thread and see what other folks who post good experiences have listed in their sigs for their PSU???

This thing is AMAZING I'm at stock CPU and DRAM voltage sitting at 200 BCLK ( 4000 cpu 1603 Dram) in the bios with stock cooler running at 40C. I have a Termalright120 with fan sitting right next to it just WAITING to be used. is this average?

Good idea I will call Enermax tomorrow and see what they say. From what I have seen from trying to fix this issue most people are using the Corsair 1000HX but thats a good idea I should look at what everyone here uses to get a range of options.

Damn funny, I have exactly the same issues, I have stripped everything from the Mboard and it wont post, I have exactly the same PSU. I am now waiting on a replacement to arrive getting a Chieftec PowerSupply 1200W CFT-1200G-DF, so hopefully this will fix the issue.


Question I have is anyone using the Lian Li Tyr PC-X2000 case? I have one on the way and was wondering if it was a good buy or not. How easy it is to install water into this case?

I had an Evga X58 before the Rampage II Extreme using a Corsair HX 1000 psu but both systems had random shutdowns along with boot problems both cold and warm. I swapped every piece of hardware that I thought could have caused the problem. It turned out to be the psu. I installed a Corsair 850W psu and the system ran great @4.2GHz with two GTX260’s in SLI. I RMAed the Corsair 1000W then received the replacement psu last Monday. I don’t know what was wrong with the first one or if Corsair has changed something in the design but the new one runs great. I’m running the system @4.24GHz with three GTX260’s in tri-SLI now and I haven’t had one shutdown or boot issue with the replacement psu. I’m not saying I recommend this psu just stating my experience.

Yeah, it does seem the board is a bit picky re: PSU. I think it wants really clean and stable power.

I've got one & it's a great case, you're gonna love it, very tall. I'm using a chiller to cool my components so everything is external & can't say much about fitting a rad in there, but I've seen people install the radiator vertically in the front fan grill.

Its a mystery, chips are hit and miss, some guys are seeing nice clocks with minimal settings, others are using fine tuning to get good results.
there doesnt seem to be anything uniform about this board, no magic settings as far as ive seen or experienced, its a matter of trying everything.

Djaneh has seen 220 bclk so has cstlk and venom crusher, these are rare though i think. 220 is the limit I think uncore I believe prevents it going higher.

is there a thread that will catch me up to speed on Core i7 OCin and is there some certain settings for the R2E that would be a good starting point?
i was able to just set the BCLK to 200 and lock in my memory volts everything else on auto... and was able to install windows vista but now its starting to BSOD and act kinda funky on the desktop.

Its a mystery, chips are hit and miss, some guys are seeing nice clocks with minimal settings, others are using fine tuning to get good results.
there doesnt seem to be anything uniform about this board, no magic settings as far as ive seen or experienced, its a matter of trying everything.

Djaneh has seen 220 bclk so has cstlk and venom crusher, these are rare though i think. 220 is the limit I think uncore I believe prevents it going higher.

QPI link speed limitation prevents the BCLK from going past 222MHz in general. Whether it is the result of chip or chipset limitations is yet to be determined. So far though I would be inclined to say that it is a chip limitation rather than the chipset since only certain processors can hit QPI link speed past 4GHz and still do so stably.

I can run with 1.325 and a multi of 29 non stop (20 hours prime95). Anyone recommend a way to get past either by higher multi or BLCK?

I got my BCLK up to 227.84 - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=220749 - as you can see there, it took me 20~ hours to do so and figure the board out, it was on a Mugen II HSF

Honestly man, it's not the board, it's the chip. There is no setting that will make my or many other peoples BCLK go any higher than 222MHz (indeed that will usually be 220.8MHz or thereabouts). Well, I guess it could be the X58 chipset somehow having an effect on this and maybe your board happens to have one of the few more decent X58s but I doubt it. Just for kicks, get a different (retail not ES) 920 chip and try to run the same BCLK. Very likely you will not be able to...

Don't cherry pick a chip, just pick one up, any one.

Edit: Does anyone know why the board does not want to correctly set the BCLk when one sets it? Like 222MHz always appears as 220.8MHz, 205MHz appears as 204.8MHz, 208MHz appears as 206.8MHz...that sort of thing...any ideas?

I'm sorta new here so I dont know if this is the proper place for these kinda pics but ....
OC Results to follow once I receive the new power supply that will hopefully work on this puppy. Initial tinkering looks promising. I was able to keep auto everything except for DRAM voltage I set to stock for my ram and the BCLK to 200 and was able to install vista and got to the desktop.

And I know some of you might of seen this issue with your cases ... some not so much but I think it will be ok in my situation... there is little room for the air to go else where but out the back of the case.

I cant agree with you on this one. I dont believe its the chips [some of course yes], If you put your chip in a dfi or evga board im sure you would see it do higher bclk.
cstkl has used same chip on two boards, second Board has given Him higher bclk, that points to the board. its the board that is the limiter not the chipset or chip as far as max goes on r2e. Chipset is the same on all x58 boards, its the power delivery and bios imo that determines first what its going to be capable of.
gigabyte/evga/foxconn and dfi have seen way over 220 bclk. coincidence? no I dont think so.

goateater is the only person I've seen go past 222 on R2E.:confused:

225 bclk on my REII and have gone as high as 230. I think it a combanation of board and chip. With the same chip I could not get over 215bclk on my Evga board. Testing a Bloodrage board now.

have tryed with both, 920 & 940 both cpu's can make up to 220
but with Rampage can't go ower 200 BCLK :|

Yes and goateater is running an ES chip. Every one of X58 boards has been like this. Some chips do high BCLK some don't. I'm not excluding that the board plays a part in this but I can for sure say the chip plays a big part. Some chips do better in R2E, some in EVGA, some in DFI, some in Gigabyte, and some in Biostar...even if you look at the ES sample of the new D0 chips that Criminal is testing the highest BCLK he got was somewhere around 226. EVGA held a competition for highest BCLK some time ago and only literally a handful of people got their BCLK past 222MHz. Even here, look at the other posts following yours. Bootsy scores higher on the R2E than EVGA. It is a combination, and it's a mess. To say that R2E is just bad and DFI is say better is not true. Cstkl1 for instance was impressed by the DFI running high uncore and lower voltages which he could not do on the R2E but when I did my uncore tests, I can do 4GHz at less than 1.45V, and 4.35GHz with just 1.56V on QPI/DRAM. It's a hit and miss. Even some preliminary results that I have seen for EVGA Classified are no different and that is supposed to be the mother of all X58 boards. Highest BCLK on one set of tests I've seen...226MHz...and that's on a $700 CAD board ($450 US minimum).

If somebody can prove to me that the choice of the board in case of X58 will enable me to get higher overclocks in general (BCLK, CPU, and DRAM) I will kick the R2E to the curb immediately. Unfortunately nobody so far has shown this conclusively. I know that out of the four or so i7 940s that I tested this one hits the highest BCLK. The second chip I tested did not even hit 210MHz.

Yeah thats what I was showing in the last picture. I know its inside the case, but as you can see that part is meshed anyways and from the inside the case is kinda lipped in a way that the air has no other option other than going out the back mesh.
