With asus 1406 I can clock my E8400 to 4Ghz with nothing lower than 1.28v,but with Ket's 1611 I can hit 4Ghz with only 1,23v:up:

You can burn the bios file onto a CDRW disc, use the built in flasher in the bios.
Or install XP on a spare HDD or something.. only ways around that.
Which is the best mBIOS for a P5Q Pro? Can i install it by Asus BIOS update tool without any risks?

read the thread guys comeone. as far as the windows flashing tool, dont use it. They are a tad unstable and its real easy to kill your board using it.
I always used such tool. Before I bought my first Ausus mobo, I was an Abit fan, and so the uGuru Flash, as the Asus Update tool was working perfect. I flashed about minimzm 40-50 times with these utilitys, and never had a problem with them. Only this last time, but this is because of the rom. I must say I am more afraid of flashing BIOS with the BIOS integrated one, bacause it is a MOD BIOS flashed in yet, and dont know, if that wouldnt take care of my mobo with a raw deal:(

The built-in asus bios flasher works fine with the modded bios, just burn all the bios images onto a disc, reboot into bios and flash, power down and clear CMOS after successful flash.

And i'm a bit confused of it. It's a bit clocked to 445mhz (same to BUS) at 4-4-4-12 clocks, 2.1vram. But i get some BSOD showing: "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" (i search and it's related to ram) and some games get frozen (i dont know if it's cause the game or the ram). Anyway i tested it with memtest and no errors appeared.
In everest bench i get this, and i think is no normal, but i dunno:

I do agree, most of the what you call, "NOOB QUESTIONS" are repetitive, but there is 61 pages to this post, going thru all of those pages is crazy. I myself asked above very nicely and got a "shoved to the side" response. Why? I asked if the 1613m bios is currently your best choice for a Bios for the P5Q-PRO. I understand that BIOS act differently from PC to PC, but in general, is the 1613m bios optimal? I can see you have some great followings here with your BIOS'es, and that is why I would like to try 1 out, and I didnt think it would hurt to ask for opinions before I flash my board with it. I did read a good 20-25 pages, starting from page 61, and im still utterly confused as to which 1 to use. Just looking for you to give some of us some slack. After answering the same question a bazillion times in the thread and in PMs, you'd get fed up as well, heh. As you rightly pointed out no BIOS behaves the same on every system. The best advice anyone can give is see whos been using the BIOS your thinking of using, check the hardware specs for those people, if their similar to your own, then its worth a shot. Otherwise, your kinda flying blind and theres no advice anyone can really give, you simply just have to try it and find out.
Do you reckon adding the missing MOSFET heatsink (like the enzotech copper one) on the P5Q Pro board is worthwhile?
The other P5Q boards including the vanilla P5Q, Deluxe and Premium all have that extra heatsink on the very top of the board...
sorry if this is a muppet-like question, but what is the difference between mBIOS and BIOS? I have P5Q-E BTW.
@stealthbomber...I am watercooling my P5Q-E soon but only for aesthetics. you dont need any additional heatsinks for The P5Q range :)
mbios - modded bios. they are modified by ket. they allow better over-clocking as they combine memory tables (and more goodies) from other bioses that arent necessarily p5s
bios -plain "vanilla" bios. the one that asus releases. sometimes asus might neuter the bios on a lower rated board just so that it *seems* to not oc as good as a higher rated board (e.g. p5q pro vs p5q deluxe)
Is there a "FIX" in any of these mBIOS'es that make the 400 strap usable? and possibly the PCIe MHz fix? I like to run my PCIe @ 110MHz, but this board takes a sh*t after 101..... Damn it ASUS!

I tried the methids you have suggested, but I still cant flash 1501 BIOS for P5Q. Thanks god I could reflash the vanilla 1611 with the EZ flash in BIOS, but that dose not suppport BIOS downgrade, so I cant flash BIOS-es before 1611. I formley uninstalled The win based flash tool, because I thought I would be able to install the earlier version of that, wherewith I meant to flash the 1501, but the installer faild to initialize the setup, so I thoght that it dosent support x64 or x64Vista...now its turned out, that not the OS is responsible for this, beacause I cant reinstall the lastest( previousley installed and working ) version of Asus Update tool, for the same reason, the installer fails, and I read the waning message, it says that this is not an Asus motherboard, it has some problem with the BIOSinfo.dll...any suggestions?

Any ideas of flashing the 1511m or 1511m v1 are welcome, but it is dead cert, that I dont uninstall the Flash tool again...
It can't hurt. Check my sig., I have installed all the heatsinks listed on my Pro and it really keeps the temps. in check. Note that I use the Thermalright sinks on both sets of mosfets, but that Enzotech sink looks good too, being all copper with tall fins. Any of these aftermarket sinks are much better quality than the supplied sinks as well. I say go for it:up:
ok so after reading a few various pages it seems obvious that most of if not all the people using your mbios's can achieve better overclocks.....my only question is how unsafe is it to be doing this? can I cause any damage using a bios not "made" for my mobo?
I know companies detune or make bios's that make a board not as overclock-able so you are unleashing some potential I am just wary of switching to a modded bios just to get a better clock
The danger involved with using a mBIOS is exactly the same as using a vanilla BIOS, ie; the risk the flash process might go wrong. The chances of this are very small however and recovery is quick and painless. In the worst case scenario simply put a known "good" BIOS for your board on a floppy disk (doesnt even have to be bootable) and name the BIOS AMIBIOS. (or was it AMIBOOT? its one of those anyway :up: ) after a few minutes and a coupe restarts you'll be looking at the POST screen.

Ok this is about if the flashing procedure fails, but what about me? In my case the flashing was successful, but I cant flash any other BIOS-es no more, cause something is not correct with the BIOS checksum, or some ID ot whatever, so the Update tool cannot identify the rom files correctly, or I dunno..but I get warned with any other BIOS-es, that the rom is not compatible, except the 1611 and the 1611m. I wonder if there will be a new release for P5Q, could I flash it or not?
We already told you your options, one of them will work, its up to you to choose which method is going to cause you the least inconvenience.
From what you told its only one I didnt tried, to flash with that earlier( 6xxxx or something like that ) version of asus update "fool", but to do that, I need to install an Xp, which I cannot, cause I dont have any free drive to do that. The other methods you have suggested didnt seem to work.

You haven't tried the older version of asus update which has been linked to in various peoples posts, also doesn't seem like you actually read anything apart from the last 3 posts at most :rolleyes: Stop expecting me to solve every problem asus create, I have provided solutions (as have others), that is enough.

First, i want to thank KET for your awesome work.
my main reason to try your bios, is to avoid the damn wrong temps the official bios reports.
i have OCZ reaper ddr2-800 ram, but when i installed your bios, the MB recognizes the ram as ddr2-1066, and i have everything in auto.
My questions are:
- should i leave it like this? or must i force it to 800?
- will the kit support this "OC" from 800 to 1066 without problems?
i'm not OC fanatic, so i want stability and durability if this thing will become a bad thing in the future.
that's sad news, i thought that with this bios, the stupid 100+š error would disappear.

I've only flashed my bios once and it was using the memory stick option......If it doesn't correctly flash over, Ill just be screwed with a nonworking pc until I flash it back? Because some people are posting that once they switched, they couldn't get it to flash to any other normal bios
Its nothing to worry about. Without specific details I can't say anymore than that. Once again it all boils down to each system behaves differently.

Ket, I have to give you thanks for making a great BIOS for the P5Q-E. I was running a Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 and couldn't get my Q9450 above 3.4 with every imaginable setting. With the P5Q-E and 1703m BIOS, I'm running a stable 3.6 GHz with less voltage. :D

Maybe a silly question, but how come BIOSes for different boards have different size? Difference between 1mb and 2mb is huge imo...
I might give these a try, can't get the FSB stable at 450, unsure if it's the motherboard or a compatibility issue with my memory, P5Q-E I hoped would at least do 450fsb stable with my Q9950.
Just make sure that your memory is on the QVL and there shouldn't be any issues. Some of the later built Q's also have nasty FSB wall.
i confirm that the wrong temp (100C plus) is also in this bios :(

Its a calibration problem, right now I don't have time to go ripping things apart to find where asus have stuffed this, so probably best to bug them about it.
Ket. How optimized are the bios you've been modding? Just curious to know.
It may be hard to meassure "optimization level" on BIOSes.... check the first page, you'll see what has been modified and how that should improve things.

That sounds like a hilarious question to me lol. I'm going to try that new BIOS with the MF2 mem table and see how it goes. Who else has had success / failure with it?
If you have 2 bios chips you might try what I did to recover from the horror that is 1703 (i have the p5q-e). If you don't want to upgrade the bios on your backup chip then remove the backup chip from the left socket and start on step 5.
there are a lot of steps but they are very simple. i found this easier than tracking down old versions of afudos and such and i don't want to install any of asus' windows software unless i really have to.
1. remove the right bios chip (active, 1703)
2. move the left chip (backup, probably 06xx) to the right socket
3. install a safe, known good bios (704m for me)
4. remove the backup chip and replace it with the active chip originally found in the right socket
5. boot your computer and be certain it's the 1703 bios. we're going to nuke it so be absolutely sure of this!
6. start ez flash and begin flashing the same bios installed, 1703 in my case.
7. turn the PSU switch off after the bios is erased, just prior to it writing the bios.
8. install the backup bios back into the left socket.
9. start your computer and watch the backup kick in and flash itself to the corrupt, active bios chip
10. delete all occurrences of 17xx from your hard disks and flash drives while you curse asus under your breath

None of these modded bioses did anything for me. Not even a single MHz increase.
Maybe because I am already border line? I am running a E8400 @ 4.5Ghz on air, stable 24/7.
500Mhz FSB. But when I try, even 501FSB, the system becomes unstable. It is really weired...
Oh well...I will be waiting for new bioses and see if they help break the 500FSB barrier.
Sadly, the mBIOSes are not magic pixies, they are just tweaked. For some they are great, and for the minority not so great. I think your only the 2nd person in 63 pages to say a mBIOS didn't help :D
My P5Q DLX don't want to boot with E2160 on FSB that are higher that 400MHz, but CPU has wall at 455MHz and stability work on 450gsb after SetFSB. Is this problem any solves? (with other CPUs all is OK)

I can pass 500FSB quite easy on my P5Q Pro and its all apparently stable (tested memory with HCI Memtest and OCCT for CPU) yet in clear sky it craps out pretty fast.. I'm guessing its somehow software \ game patch related, which is why a format is nigh :D

well, I've tried all the mBioses for my P5Q, and, what I can say is that up to this moment I couldn't test any plus of performance, because I cannot boot...it's so called 'post without boot'... I did everything right...flash, clean Cmos...according to instructions found here, but nothing ever happened, I've returned to the official BIOS, and now, I have at least a chance to boot (but randomly, sometims it boot, but only with 1 stick, sometimes it doesn't...all I can do is once I boot it, to put it on sleep, and never shutdown)...I have a 512mb kingston, with witch it always boot...
anybody knows what I can do?

If a system won't boot @ stock you probably have
A: Not enough voltage being fed to your memory
B: One of your memory sticks are bad
C: The mobo itself has a fault
Well I hate to say it but it depends on what mobo you have, if you have the pos p5q pro then you wont get above 500fsb (maybe 1 or 5) on this board. I have only scene one or two rare instances that someone got like 520 or something like that. These boards are limited by asus.

@ MADMAX; P5Q Pro is not a POS, I've had both mine doing 540FSB :D I think the biggest problem is cooling. Slap a real copper HS on the SB and things change dramatically. ICH10R is very sensitive to heat.
Hi to all. im currently using bios 1406 on my p5q... i have a stable oc (400*9) but would like to try to stabilize it at 450*8 which i havent accomplished.. i did get it stable at 445*8 but anything above that ZERO! not even with alot more vcore then 400*9.. If i use one of this bios can it help me? and should i use the 1406 modded one or the most recent one? i ask that because last time i switched bios version i had to reconfigure my all oc again...

Im running my 9450 @ 450=3.6ghz on my P5Q-e with ketīs 1703 mbios, rock solid stable. 500x8 is stable with my E8400 but I get the "driver stopped responding" issue then, otherwise the system is stable then also. But not usable if you cant play games ;). But I really like my 9450 @ 3.6, could never get it over 3.2 on my Maximus formula, on this board no problems. :)

New BIOS. Only for the P5Q Pro right now. This BIOS changes a few different things on top of the standard changes
- Replaced module 30
- Replaced SLAB with the one from the P5Q Premium
This BIOS is the first attempt at the uber BIOS I spoke of some time ago. Thus far I have not tested this BIOS, so if anyone decides to give it a go be sure to let us know your results, and for gods sake READ the first post on page 1 so you can recover from a bad flash painlessly if needed.

Got a "small" problem with downgrading my BIOS. I'm trying with AFUDOS as it's described in KET's posting, but my PC hangs after the
"Advance Check.......". I loaded the default settings before etc. but it doens't work.
I would have tried with the older Asus-Update utility, but I'm running Vista x64, so this doensn't work either.
Any suggestions what I can do? :(

Most of the stock heatsink/heatpipe assemblies on these boards are nothing spectacular. It's amusing how they use a faux-copper coating on aluminum. I always remove them and fit separate, quality aftermarket heatsinks. It also allows you to replace the factory over-applied chewing gum with a decent thermal paste. I have also been bolting the sinks on (with plastic washers for insulation) for better contact than plastic push-pins can provide.
I have been pleased with the Thermalright heatsinks I have fitted on my Pro but I intend to put an Enzotech lp sink on the sb as I couldn't fit a Thermalright HR-05 on it. I'm going to use a few packs of Enzotech's excellent copper ram and mosfet sinks on my GTX280 along with the Thermalright HR-03GTX I have purchased for it, far better than the thin aluminum sinks TR provides along with that stupid vrm plate.
Going off-topic a bit there:p: Back to your M-Bios, I'm going to take the plunge and flash my Pro with your latest 1406M Enhanced. It sounds like a good one, and I'm looking forward to replacing the stock 1306 bios on my two month-old board. I'm also going to switch back to my set of Team ram to see how well they run with this. I will post my findings.:cool:
I hope the BIOS works for you, I still haven't had time to test it as I'm busy starting up my own business. If things do go bad the floppy recovery method will sort you out in a jiffy though :up:

That stres test runs the cpu at 100% i onley run for 15 min and max temp on Cpu was 38' the hottest cores at 62' after 15min max load

Stupid CPU temp sensor bug is getting on my nerves. I don't remember it happening so often... I guess I'll have to play around with BIOSes once again and see which one cured this for me.
I'm on my 5 bugs a day period then. Until last week and after having the motherboard for almost 6 months, I could count with one hand how many times the bug happened to me, but this week.... bah....
ah well, it's a great mobo, guess you can't have it all.
