Oh that sucks. I'd ebay em, and buy some from Dave, or somewhere else where you can pick your steppings.
At least you have a chip that can do 3ghz. I havent ever gotten close to it.
0551 seems to get 2.75 ish average on very high volts 1.5+
0543 only seems to average 2600 or lower.
I also bought a 146 single core for my wifes new machine. Maybe I'll get lucky on that one.
Maybe if I get a 0551 I'll just keep it.. and run 1.7v+ on it to spite it until it dies. Tired of buying new chips :lol:
Though my CCBWE 0609 at 1.65 only loads at 40C.. now I see why water is awesome! At least I have a x1900xt coming on monday! Damn, I can't afford all this, I'm screwed
edit: yeah I'm waiting to see what Dave's new stepping is! One was a 0551, he said he'll get the others today. I cant believe these 4 month old pieces of :banana::banana::banana::banana: are still around :(

Got it to 2.6ghz on stock volts, but memory wont go 1:1 over 260, he says core 1 fails prime immediatly on a divider. He's on a DFI board. Anyone have opinions? Is it his CPU or somethin else?

What do you guys think of Opty 170 0530 TPMW batch 0022? I have one of these and just wondering what to expect from it under good water? Storm rev2 and PA120.2.
On water I dont see why a 0530 wouldn't hit at least 2.8. Good chance it will go higher.

Seriously I'm beginning to love my cpu after reading all this itsh. I can pull off 2.9ghz prime stable at 1.39v on air even if it does 65 degrees on load, imagine what it would do if I could get it sub 50 degreess. Amazing.

Just luck of the draw. I have ordered quite a few from Monarch. I have gotten two 0551s though. One was a 165 that did 2.81 Ghz on 1.53v. The other is a 170 that i ran at 2.75 Ghz with 1.45v.Quote:

I've seen worse 0551s so i won't complain. Overclocking isn't as fun without the duds like 0551s. Greatness only exists with the contrast of 0551 mediocrity ;)
I think I am going to need some water cooling fun here soon.
Any better ways to cool the PWMIC and Chipset without having a fan blowing over what is already on there...
I wish I could get my hands on the aftermark cooler for the heatsink.
watercooling is a good idea.
Putting a fan over the PWMIC area is also a good idea.
I too was wanting to cool my PWMIC area on the DFI NF4 boards. Only problem is I don't think there is any way to watercool these.
No but FragTek does make an awesome fan mounting bracket but it doesn't work on the Ultra-Ds....I wonder if I could custom make one from Plexi-Glass...It couldn't be that hard.Quote:

that's a badass cooler for the chipset.. whew..
I am going to pull the sink on my pwmic and use some better thermal adhesive and put a larger/better sink on it.. even with a fan right on it it still hits 50c with full load and warm(ish) 27c ambient..
How do you get a 27c ambient when the max temp for today was only 70F? That's very warm definitely causing the PWMIC to get so high.

Yes, they've been proven to affect overclockability. ;) Plus, Opterons are "rated" for 69-70C, depending on the model. However, I assure you at those temps, overclocking definately returns diminishing values.Quote:

High temps aren't going to help anything, especially if they're heating up that whole part of the motherboard, best to get a fan on them and move the heat away.
