Oh, okay. I don't think I've ever seen the sys temp go over 31c, ever. Oh well, I'm gonna put some proper bolts on the sink anyway. Those phony plastic clips freak me out :P

I would like to ask for some suggestions / opinions.
My configuration:
Abit P35-Pro mobo running BIOS 16 Beta 3
Processor Q6600 G0
Tuniq Tower 120 HSF
Patriot memory PC2-6400 running at 4-4-4-12 @2.2V
FSB = 400 Mhz
Multi = 9
memory ratio 1:1
Vcore = 1.5v
ICHIO = 1.5v
So I'm running at 3.6 GHz - stable. Tested with Orthos, Prime95, SuperPi
At idle, coretemp & everest report temperature 42C for core 1&2 and 39C for core 3&4. Under full load on all 4 cores, temperature is 63C max. Is this too high? Also, PWM1 reports 58C
I can hit 3.8 GHz (423 x 9 with Vcore=1.58) stable. But under full load, temperature hit 75C. So I stopped.
At this point, the CPU temp is holding overclocking back.
Any suggestions? Also, with a proper air-cooled setup, at 3.8 GHz under full load, what can be an attainable temp for the CPU using air.
BTW, I haven't done the Ace pipe mod or lapping the tuniq yet. If I do decide to mod the pipe and lap the HSF, what kind of temp improvment I may get out of this?
I could tell you that my temps CPU temps at 3.6Ghz, 4 x 1gig DDR2 980 at a 1:1.2 ratio at 5-4-4-12 is 32 and during full load with PRIME I reach 57 and my CPU at 400 x 9.
I find that if I want to reach higher stable oc's I really have to push my system and then I get temps similar to yours. And I also have not done Ace's heat pipe mode... considering it, when I have a free afternoon... like maybe some time in 2008 :P
I have my Vcore set at 1.4250. What's all your settings?
all my settings are listed in my post. Basically everything is at default except for those listed above. Your system is very similar to mine except your memory is running faster. Even at 3.6 GHz, yours seems to run cooler than mine because your vcore is only 1.4250; is that the bios setting voltage or is it with the vdroop compensation?

Thats BIOS setting Voltage. I am using the CoolMaster GeminII (could be considered the BIGGEST PIA :) as a heatsink with Artic Cooling MX-2. I have been slowly lowering my Vcore... would like to know the lowest MAX stable setting. It has been only two days since I have lowered it to 1.4250, but it passed Prime and has not given me a problem.Quote:

the installation of the tuniq 120 was horrible. I had the mobo outside, put the tuniq on, but the screws and springs combination was so hard that it was very hard for the screw to bite into the thread of the back plate. I never lapped mine, was told it was not really nessary. We have the same case. I purchased 5 x 140mm fans from Petras and 1x80mm fan, plus the 2x 120mm fans plus I have two more 120mm on my heatsink. And I am about to purchase my last part.. a VGA heatsink for the 8800GT, there is one for $40 comes with two 80cm fans. Basically every spot I had for a 140mm fan, I used with a 140mm fan.
All my fans all spin around 800 - 1000RPMs, I am having problems with the Guru fan control, I want to Turbo everything, but I can't seem to do it. The fan speed is set by the default speed. My computer locks when I touch the Mode Select, it all started when I installed a 3 pin in my CPU fan. Maybe I need to install a 4 pin? When I did not use the CPU fan, I remember the Guru fan control working fine.
I have already lowered my Vcore again to 1.4150, haven't run Prime yet, but I did play about three hours of Gears of War.
I had no problem mounting my heatsink. I applied thermal compound on the heatsink only, I used a credit card to smear it around really thin and bolted it on. But just to put a fan in some of the mobo ports I have to take off my mobo completely, just way to lazy, but I will soon order a 4 pin fan.

I do think it's important to have the rear fan running a lot faster than others intake fans because you want to remove the hot air out as fast as possible and at the same time have a real good air flow front to back. Avoid any trapping of hot pocket in the system. Is that how you have yours setup ?
I do not have a problem with the fan speed via Guru. I tried last night too. My fans are all 3 pins including the CPU fan. I'm using version 3.106 and 3.107 of Guru and they both worked fine.
I have a new B16.04 BIOS that has additional Yorkfield optimizations, will upload once I confirm it does not blow up the board or switch your monitor to NickToons automatically.

So, I finally figured out my min Vcore to sustain a 3.6GHZ 9X400... 1.3950, any lower I fail prime. I also had to keep my memory at 2.250, any lower it would also crash prime near the end... pisses me off :). 4x1GB 5-4-4-12.
My MCH is at 1.41... I haven't played with it much, plan to try to lower it.
VTT at 1.23 (don't understand what this does...
DDR2 +2% and GTREF at 69%.
I ended up lowering my max temp by 11 C.. I think that is pretty good. So now my temps are between 24 (previously was at 32) at idlea and when I ran prime it went to 46C (previously was at 57).
When I run prime, I always get three cores to finish about 15 seconds before the last... is that normal? My score is around 409 in windows.
that's pretty good result reading on the temp.
Every cpu is different. I'm glad you were able to lower to 1.395.
Mine is stable at 1.47. I'll try to relax my timing a bit and give a 0.05V bump on memory to see if I can lower vcore. Thanks for the info.

BTW...another nice feature of the 16.B04 is an "Auto" setting for Vdimm...it will automatically increase Vdimm as you increase FSB or adjust memory strap which in effect raises memory speed...so...if you are pushing the envelope on a high strap change, the voltage increase will or can help with a successful post...so far, the largest increase that i've seen was a little over 2.3 volts.

joe, really don't know, but, from my understanding talking to bingo13 that abit is tweaking the 16 bios so it can work with the Penryn...still a bit to go with cpu temp, bios vcore setting and one or two other voltages that are out of sync from what Uguru is saying or allowing to change through "OC Guru".Quote:

my mod might not allow you to get to 3.8...your limitation might be your hardware, ie., cpu, memory or mobo....don't frustrate yourself if you can not reach that plateau...once you go over 3.6 ghz on a Q6600 you need a large increase in vcore and maybe mch and ichio.Quote:

that's good for a P95 episode...i really do not fool around with that program anymore...i kind of expected 4 ghz would be the baseline for P95 and a QX9650.Quote:
