I really really hate Monarch, but on the OEMs you cant beat their prices.
Must be the best 0551 ever.Quote:

Have you guys been getting any good steppings on retail Opterons from Newegg or ZZF? I got a 0551 from ZZF last week but its not overclocking very well. Its topping out around 2600MHz with less then 1.5V. I ordered one of the OEM 165's from Monarch yesterday but i dont know if i want to wait around for them to ship when i can just get an in stock one from Newegg or ZZF retail. Retail are only like $30 more when you consider the cost of shipping at Monarch and i also paid the extra $15 for the 3 year warranty. With retail you also get the Opteron stock heatsink/fan which is a pretty good cooler if you ever need an extra or decide to sell the CPU.
Hey man I just ordered a Retail Opteron 170 from ZZF and it will be delievered today and I will post the stepping as soon as I open the box on it.Quote:

Overclocking a dual core processor is the same as overclocking a single core. It just takes a little more testing since you've got two cores instead of one and usually they dont both top out at the same speed.Quote:

Prime 95 version 24.14 Custom FFTs in place changing every 15 Minutes is harder than Small FFts.
I can just swap out my Single Core Opteron and slap in this Dual Core without installing the OS again...I am really stupid when it comes to Dual Cores. But I shall learn :)
yah clear the cmos before you reboot, because multi's might change or such, its that simple, same os and all..Quote:

Got it now...
Stepping is...
CCBWE 0609FPAW
Any reports on this stepping?
so far so good....:toast:
I have one.. did about 2.85 with 1.575v on water. I still have my 2 monarch OEM 165's waiting to ship, hope they're still shipping something good.. because one's going to ebay or the FS sectionQuote:

I will test this out...I am using Air-Cooling only though. So lets see what she can do.
Is the 704-2BTA BIOS fine for the Dual Cores?
Here is the intial test.... 250x10.0 @ v1.36
1900 @ 690/800 BTW

Mine did 2550 at stock vcore, try that first
What kinda of temps do I want to try to keep it under...
For cooling I am using a Big Typhoon with the stock fan...I can still through my 120CFM fan on there yet to drop temps alittle...I also need to learn real quick how to lap a Heatsink...It would help lots...right now my highest temp I have seen load is 43C
Same settings as above...

The CCBWE don't seem to be as temp sensitive as CCB1E so under 50 should be fine. My 0609 only hits 40C at 1.575v with water
have you installed all the dual core fixes yet? seems like you should be closer to 2000 on that cpu test..Quote:

Also, let the AS5 set and then I bet you could get 2.7 out of that chip.. with 1.52+ vcore maybe.. just a wild ass guess.
nah his score is accurate, he's only clocked at 2.5. Get past 2.7 or something and you might break 2K, get around 3 Ghz to hit 2.3K.
Here's my run @ 3.02 Ghz, albeit terrible ram timings. 7900GT was lightly overclocked, i don't think i had it at the max.

While playing with my unlidded 165 tonight, I accidently applied 1.77v, which is like 1.82v set (1.35v * 136%!!!!!). I diddn't even realise until I got into Windows and checked CPU-Z to make sure I had the right settings (damn good thing I did). I point to direct die cooling and water to keeping the chip from exploding. Once I saw those voltages, I hard rebooted, found the error, and rebooted as fast as my fingers could type. My heart was racing, waiting for it to blow up. Doh! :slapass:
