I myself just ordered an Opteron 170 from ZipZoomFly.

I am switching from an Opteron 146...what steppings are doing the best and what can most people expect from an overclock on the 170s?

hey dude

Best steppings are anything 0550, and anything CCB1E. 0609 looks promising too.

Expect 2.8 Ghz minimum. 2.9+ if you are lucky enough to get CCB1E.

I second this post. I noticed newegg is more expencive. WHen I orded a 170 from the egg in march sometime it was a 0550, anyone know if they are still shipping? Or what zipzoomfly is shipping?

I've personally switched from a dual-core(165) to single-core(146). For some reason playing games feels snappier. Not to mention the chip and the whole system runs much cooler. Such an irony because I've been a very vocal supporter of dual-cores..

P.S. How do 170 0609FPAW fare? Tankguys seem to have them in stock.

Probally depends on weather or not they are CCBWE or CC1BE.

the CCBWE that i tested for about 10 minutes didnt seem to have a cold bug. Seemed stable at 3ghz, bumped it up to 3100 and core0 failed.

Only played with it for about 10 minutes, and I think the memory I was using was bad lol. I guess you can say it is good chip.

I am new to this forum and i have a question. Im getting a new opteron 165 with "ccb1e 0608mpmw" stepping. Is that a good stepping? I have intentions to overclock it. :D

Also what can be expected from a CCBWE 0546XPMW 175 w/ powerful water cooling?

Yes it is, if you scroll up a ways youll see a few people running them and thier results.

Hey did you buy the OEM or the REATIL one?? apparently the OEM is costing much more than the retail at monarch, dunno why!

then don't waste ur time on anything else but a DFI. (Sli-D or Expert).

Cold bug is from using phase change where temps can reach extreme sub 0 temps. Correct me if im wrong but i think its the amd's memory controller that has the issue with subzero temps?
