Yes,
This is my understanding... (and I am a begginer, so I may be wrong), you can always set the memory speed to what you want based on the options given in the bios of the motherboard. The options are based on ratios. I can tell you that there are better ratios then others to reach your overclock max and the ratios are directly related to the speed of the CPU and speed of the memory.
The rest is to go to your bios and see what options you have.
AND this...

And Ace added thta the 1333 memory strap is the easiest to overclock.
I don't know if DDR2800 could achieve a 3.6Ghz overclock at a 1:1.2 ratio? Can anyone answer that? Or do you need DDR21066?
ace a rue what voltage are you running ur proc at that spd?
real time is 1.55v
EDIT:..that is not P95 stable...it's good enough for everyday apps.
I've updated to the new beta bios. THANK YOU. I was running bios vers. 14 before, I thought it was the newest.
All I can say is CPU-Z always showed a multiplier of 6 and now it shows the correct multplier of 9.
Time to start increasing the FSB.
I am going to increase using the Guru.
So I am at work now, so I can't tell you may exact settings. But I was able to run that 1024 WPrime test and I pass, but I fail OCCT in about two minites. I am running at 3.6Ghz with temps at load about 33 and during prime it goes up to 52, I don't think that is to hot?
I'll try to post my results later and maybe you can give me some suggestions to make it more stable with OCCT.
Thanks.
if you can pass the 1024M test that will get you through most demanding applications except for folding and some gaming apps...all prime 95 does for you is to say you can pretty much hack folding 24/7...even then i've heard of cases where the guy said i was P95 stable but my folding quit on me after 'X' hours.
you will find many P95 addicts in this and other forums but to me, it is a waste of time AND electrical energy to do OCCT or P95 if you are not going to do folding...only in that application and maybe a few games you need to know if your system will hack it and only then, it pays off to run those programs.
Thank you Ace. I still would feel alot better if OCCT passed. I don't understand what you mean by "folding", I also am confused when you say my system will hack it? I don't understand fully, can you explain it in baby terms :). I usually google stuff I don't undestand but in both of these cases I google was no help.
OK, still at work. But I started to up my volts to try and get it more stable in OCCT, at first it did not start for a second, then I got it to 30 seconds, the last time I ran OCCT I managed to get to a full 2 minites :).
But I do understand what you mean by a waist of electricity. I will post you what I did, and maybe you an give me your two cents.
I was about to post yesterday about what I did, but my system crashed just before I hit the submit reply button, after that I just started increasing everything, lol....
Thanks Again for your help.
On a personal note... what is your CPU temp? what is your system temp? Thanks.
This is what I'm getting at. It looks like you can't run the memory lower than 1:1 with this MB.
So if I want to run 450 mhz FSB, I would need memory that can do 900 mhz.
I don't think my Crucial Ballistic 800 mhz can do that. So a Penryl upgrade next year becomes pretty expensive to make it worthwhile.
Hi Again,
1st off is there a post to show me how to upload a picture?
So this is my settings. 400MHz, 9 x multiplier, Vcore 1.4450, MCH 1.44, CPU VTT 1.23, ICH 1.15, CPU GTLREF (both) 1-4 69%, DDR2 2.250, ichio 1.6 and DDR2 Ref 2%.
Any suggestions? Should I tunrn anything down? Or should I turn anything up?
Memory is at DRAM frequency 480.0 Mhz, FSB:DRAM 5:6 ratio, 5-5-5-18
Prime was 410, Thansk again.
Whats funny is I installed the latest beta bios, and I don't see the drop anymore? I am actually worried!!!! I know I can even lower my Vcore and still pass the prime 1024 test.
It just sounds so high at 1.4925. Isn't the point trying to find your Stable Max with the lowest settings? Man you electric bill must be going throught the roof... lol...
But tonight I will definately try the voltage you recommend and I will run OCCT to see if it lasts any longer. Currently Crashes just under 2 minites. What is your CPU temps? Are you using air or water?
My goal is to have a VERY healthy stable speed. I would be thrilled to have 3.6Ghz. I kind of don't want run my computer on MAX because I feel it would just lower the life of it by "too much". But I would also be thrilled with 3.7GHz :)
I just set my FSB to achieve 3.6Ghz, I feel I could go much higher if all I had to do was pass Prime.
I have not touched my memory settings besides the Vcore. Once I am happy with my clock speed and system I will try to tighten up the memory a little. My ballistix posts at 1140DDR2 levels, but when I increase the FSB past 3.4Ghz, I have to lower the ratio so it will boot, hence, I have a 5:6 ration.
I am confused, which mobo do you have? The Abit Pro P35 ratios can be adjusted. You might be able to hit 4..05Ghz with a 5:6 ratio. I think your DDR2 speed could go up to about 1100DDR2 speeds. I know my tracers post no problem at 1140DDR2. But I don't know how to calculate the speed of your memory if you did a 4.05Ghz OC at 5:6 ratio. If I remmember correctly, at 3.6Ghz my memory does DDR2 975.
Good Luck.
I am using air with a low speed yate loon 120mm fan on my tru extreme. Temps under load are in the low 60s. Passes OCCT for an hour but can still fail prime after 4 hours or so. Here is what I had on my p5k deluxe before it died http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1106
is it just me or 1:1.2 ratio on this mobo does not work? I have 2x1gb crucial balistix, which I ran on 975x 1000+mhz, however, on this mobo the only way to get to 3.6ghz is 1:1. If I choose 1:1.2 the PC just freezes in windows randomly.
where are you from joshua?:)
HACK IT = run or operate without any problems.
FOLDING = http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=33126
as far as OCCT or Prime 95, i understand and i tell people don't waste more than an hour on it unless you have demanding games that rely on the cpu a lot or you do folding for XS or whoever.
Thanks for the folding info. Well, I will not be folding, just to scared to let another system to have access to my computer.
But I do play games and if a 3.6Ghz crashes my computer during game play, I will definately lower my FSB or change my voltages.
Hey Ace,
Do you think i should change any of my settings? Higher or Lower? Just trying to get your opinion and I know you really don't have any answers but I do value your opinion regardless if my system can handle it or not.
And thank you again for all your help. I already feel I have learned ALOT!!! So happy to have this Forum.
bleh I'm getting frustrated. For some reason I can't make any uguru changes in the bios. I can change almost everything in OS, but multiplier and ram dividers I have to do in the BIOS. Every time I make a uguru change in bios, the machine attempts to restart and shutsdown and restarts with a reset bios all by itself. I can't just change 9x to 8x and leave everything else alone!!!
This is just a suggestion. Uninstall it. And download the guru utility from United Kingdom... http://www.abit.com.tw It worked for me.
Good LUCK.
what bios are you using?
if you are using the latest beta, then clear CMOS with the battery out for about 5 minutes...now, go into the bios and load default settings, save, and now re-enter the bios to make all your appropriate changes.
I was using Bios14 that came with the board, then it went really bad at one point and would not accept any changes anywhere in the bios, so I reflashed it with Bios14 that I downloaded. It worked for a bit. I've gotten some uguru settings to stay put by changing them, saving the changes in the bios profile and loading the profile from a clean reset. This will actually boot through about every other time. But the other time the machine tries to boot then shutsdown then tries to boot again but no screen and the bios code stays stuck at 90, which is the code for uguru is switching control over to the award bios, then I have to use the jumper... I've already reset the damn time and date in windows over 10x. And I'm not even overclocked yet!!!
Exact same thing happened to me when I first got this board. I managed after many attempts to program the bios to let me boot off a USB stick, and then I flashed the 16 beta 3 bios (Ace has it in his sig)
definitely want to remove all power, pull battery, clear cmos, etc, and load setup defaults after the flash.
also, make sure your RAM has enough volts (set it manually to match ram specs) and I would go for an underclocked 1:1 ratio until you can get it stable, especially BEFORE you flash the bios.
