Folks, what's the fastest Intel chip that isn't s2011, isn't delidded, and is overclocked by a normal person on air? I assume it is haswell, but I need to check because you might have a surprise up your sleeves and the average 2600k or 3770k is better.
Or maybe it is too close to call. Thanks yo
A 5 GHz 3770k seems less hard to find than a good 4770k. Might be the best choice if you need the clocks on air/h20. but it's really close race ofc. Sandy Bridge is too much a power hog in comparison IMO, but sure, some of them you could run at 5,2-5,3 GHz 24/7 if you don't mind pushig volts a lot. I'd say 4,8 GHz 4770k = 5 GHz 3770k = 5,2 Ghz 2600k.
Sold my previous cpu and got myself a new one (310B). This one can get in win7 and use normaly at 4.7Ghz with 1.2vcore/1.85vrin. I can also pass cinebench r15 at 4.5ghz with 1.2vcore/1.80vrin. All these on stock intel hsf since i wait some fittings to finish my water setup. I also tried 4.6ghz but i bsod as soon as first core reach 99c

At work so batch information on hand but will edit post later. Only settings changed is vCore and vCache, everything else auto. Probably can lower voltages a bit more but haven't had the chance yet but will soon. Next up will be trying to get cache up to 4600mhz also along with RAM at 2400mhz with my 16GB kit.
CPU: 4770k @ 46x100
RAM: GSkill Trident 2133 9-9-9 @ 1600mhz
HS/F: Thermalright TRUE Black with 1x120x25mm Scythe (open air case, low/med speed using auto fan setting in BIOS, no OS software)
vCore: 1.1875v (BIOS set)
vCache: 1.15v (BIOS set)

I dont know what to do with my 4670k L311B662. Stock VID is 1.072. That thing wont even be stable @ 38 1.2v core , uncore 34. I couldnt get to windows @ 41 with 1.3v. How can it be that crap. Havent changed input voltage its 1.7 and the LLC is @ auto.
My best 4670k so far:
4670k|4500Mhz|1,123V|45|100.0|3800Mhz|2133 Mhz|ASRock Z87 Extreme6|Air|Delidded|L315B334|Boxed|ralle_h
4670k|4800Mhz|1,258V|48|100.0|3800Mhz|2133 Mhz|ASRock Z87 Extreme6|Air|Delidded|L315B334|Boxed|ralle_h
Had two similar CPUs that did ~1,15V @ 4,5 Ghz but already needed 1,3V for 4,8 Ghz. Scaling is everything.
My Good L315B334 does 4,9 Ghz with around 1,3V but unfortunately im having big Problems with big 5 :(
Put on "safe" voltages and still going to work lowering them. Seems like this is the top end of my uncore for Prime stability within the voltage range I feel comfortable with.
CPU: 4770k @ 46x100 Uncore: 4400mhz Batch: L310B492 Malaysia
RAM: 16GB GSkill Trident 2400 10-12-10-31-2 @ 2400mhz

vCore: 1.2v (BIOS set)
vCache: 1.3v (BIOS set)
vCCSA: 1.15v (BIOS set)
vIO A: 1.15v (BIOS set)
vIO D: 1.15v (BIOS set)

Your cache voltage is higher than your vcore, thought this was a no no, according to the experts.
It very well maybe but I personally haven't seen it posted anywhere. These were the absolute ceilings I felt comfortable Priming with so I maxed them out to remove them as an issue. As of right now Priming same settings but with vCache set to 1.175v. Temps are higher due higher ambients this morning but it may be able to tough it out.
I finally got my new rig together and up and running. as of right now I turned c1e off and bumped the CPU voltage up to 1.2 and raised the multi up enough to get her up to 4.5 GHz. let it run prime for about 24 hours with no issues. highest temp I saw was 71c (h100i, still haven't delidded yet).
are there any other settings I should manually set or is it safe leaving them on auto? don't really have the greatest understanding of a lot of the settings
It seems interests have died down over the past month or so. Isn't anybody doing any more overclocking?
Picked up one at Fry's who pricematched Microcenter at $199 for a 4770k.
Picking up my Asus Hero VI next week and ordering some ddr3 2400 ram soon might wait for Cyber Monday. Gonna seen if it is a dog or not b4 considering delidding
CPU-Z - 5.100 MHz @ 1.4v @4T/4T
SPI 1M - 5.000 MHz @1.4V @4C/4T
Tried to get higher frequency with 2C/2T with the same voltage but no result.
H2O cooling but only with 2 noctua@1.200 rpm.

My chip seems to be garbage. Put it under custom loop watercooling (Ek Supremacy Block & 2x 60MM Thick 360MM Rads).
Cannot get 4.6Ghz stable. 4.5Ghz seems stable so far with 1.3V, uncore overclocking is trash...cannot find a stable spot when I start increasing it. Anything above 39X sends the system into a tantrum. Voltages don't seem to help either...have tried VCCIN 1.8-2.2 / VRING 1.15-1.25 / Vcore 1.275-1.35 (may try 1.425??)
Chip still has it's lid on. With what garbage it seems to be I don't think it will be worth popping it off.
Just tried 47X w/ 1.425vcore & 2.4vccin as a last ditch effort. No dice. Boots to desktop but hangs in a bench. /kicks stone.
Hi people,
after seeing this i am frightened to buy 4770k now. Far as I have read, only good ones are till L312xxx. From our supplier I see batches 329 and 334 are available. Does anyone have experience with those? My happy target is 4,5 GHz with Gryphon and NHD14. Thanks.
Mine is 3334B905
You can see that it can do 4.5 Ghz@1.2v Prime95, SPI 1M@5ghz@1.4v and 5.100 MHz@CPUZ@1.4v.
Just figured I'd chip in my results. Long time member, I build a system about every 5-6 years, so I'm a bit rusty, but here's what I put together for a Photoshop machine for my wife:
Asus Maximus Hero 6
4670k Costa Rica 3339B845
32GB Gskill ripjaws 1600mhz
640 GT video card
Samsung 840pro
EK watercooling kit; 240mm rad w/corsair high pressure fans in push pull
Seasonic 650 modular
Went through the usual "put it on 46 and 1.25vcore and see what it does", not stable. played with adaptive a bit, pushed vcore all the way to 1.42 (temps never broke 80c in my 75F room - thanks Florida winters).
Current stable setup is 45x100, manual vcore at 1.395. 4.6 will post, but not stable even if I bump vcore. Temps never break 74c at 1.395vcore, stress tested AIDA64 for 8 hours in the heat of the day.
Was hoping for more, have the cooling for at least 1.45vcore on a hasswell but it looks like this chip is just average.
Just wanted to add that to the list.
Cheers all, see you again in 6 years when I build my next system (unless somebody wants to unload a 4770k that does 5.0GHz on <1.45vcore)

hah, my sig is hilarious, at least 2 machines ago. loved that PC-DL and TCCD with tight timings..had 36gig raptors in Raid 0 on that too....so noisy with stock IWT's...

Ive got a Malaysia chip, currently doing 4.5ghz at 1.27v, seriously needs de-lidding, under prime95 core 1 hit 93oC while core 4 was round about 75oC with the other 2 cores hovering around the middle somewhere, this tells me the TIM and Lid are crap, however there is no way in this world I am putting a hammer to my chip, im sure plenty of you have done it, but it looks like total madness to me, I don't have ?250 to throw away.
However one thing that's got me wondering about my overclock is the image below, Windows system doesn't show my overclock, but cpu-z does ?
Im running it on a Gigabyte G1 Sniper Z87 board, could not for the life of me get it stable with the Gigabyte official bioses, so today I flashed the modded bios, F2b, worked perfectly straight away, a very easy overclock, and successfully ran 17.5 hours of Prime95 (the newest one), also running 4 x 2gb (8GB) sticks of G.Skill Ripjaws 2133mhz @ 9-11-9-28-2T.
And on top of that, only 7.8 on the CPU in Windows User Experience when everything else is scoring 7.9, whats that all about ?
I just did an IHS removal on an i7 4770K, I should have check the quality before I think.
Temps are stunning good now compared to standard, Batch is L347B947 - stock Voltage 1.048V
Any how, the CPU seems to be a very bad OC CPU... 1,2V @ 4.3Ghz seems not to be stable, that sucks as others do 4.6 and more with that voltage. I don't have an idea what I might do wrong, but at only 1600 mem speed I only can imagine that the cpu voltage is to low and causes BS in prime 95 load.
Voltage Limit in Linx, which stresses the CPU massively, are ~ 1.25V which results in ~85C - daily workload or Prime large FFT are less than 70 in this voltage.

Edit: Prime 95 large FTT Temps are far much lower even on high voltage:

-> 1.35V -> 4,5 Ghz not Prime stable, sucks

What did you put on the resistors next to the bare die?
