Fortron 530 watt PS

No one needs 530 watt,s using my Watt meter, My vapo OC'd to over 4ghz 9800 Pro, 2 raptors, my whole rig isnt even pulling 300watts under full load.

IM running a duallie AMD XP rig @ 2.3ghz each chip on a 300 watt fortron aurora series with no problems for 5 months now 24/7.

they come with a 24pin atx adapter, and a 4 pin 12V adapter, not the 8 pin auxilary one.

the 24pin adapter sure helps coz future mobos will have them, and it complies with ATX v2.0 specs.

and the fortron 550W has better rails than the fortron 530W.

so just grab a 24 - 20 pin adapter and a fortron 550W like me, and u have a PSU which is even better than the fortron 530W. It also has PFC, which is not much of a advantage to have, but it helps the PSU run cooler, so all's good.

and yes, u can also adjust the voltage pots in this one.:)

Oh yeah! ... 100% agreeement here.
The 300w Fortron can power my OCing rig up to 230fsb
just fine. And the 400w unit gets me up above 250fsb
same as my PCP&C 425 deluxe. :D

It also has active PFC. Which isn't really needed here in the
States from what I understand.

I thought the 550w had both the 4pin and 8pin aux connectors
like the 300w and 400w Fortron units I've installed. Could
be mistaken, certainly wouldn't be the first or last time. ;)

Seems I was right. The 550w unit has both the 4pin and 8pin.

It's worthy to note the 530w unit has higher max load
specs on the +3.3v and +5v rails. The =12v are both 18a.



530w - 3.3v=28a, 5v=40a, 12v=18a

550w - 3.3v=27a, 5v=29a, 12v=18a

if it does have both, there really is no problem, u just plug the 4 pin in:)

and PFC is not needed in the states, but i hear it helps the PSU run cooler, so that helps i think.:)

According to the Fortron websyte the 530w unit
has higher amp specs on the 3.3v and 5v rails.

Active PFC helps it run cooler? That is always good. :)

It's also worty to note the 550w is rated 500w at 50c where the
530w is rated 455w at the same temp.

However, the 530w overcurrent protection limits are higher
than the 550w.

Overcurrent protection:
530w - 3.3v = 60a, 5v = 58a, 12v = 35a

550w - 3.3v = 45a, 5v = 45a, 12v = 20a

Just for sheets and giggles, here's the specs on the
Fortron 300w (FSP300-60ATV) for comparrison

overcurrent protection:
300w - 3.3v = 70a, 5v = 60a, 12v = 28a

Remember that the 550W has 2 12V lines, so 40A total.

Yep, check that 550W pdf again, several places where it is mentioned. :)

It is a server PSU after all ready to power dual CPUs.

I agree, i whould like to see them compared. Infact i whould just like to see the 550W reviewed, haven´t seen one yet.

If the 550w comes with an adapter, then it sounds pretty sweet.

Looks like it has two 18a 12v rails. One dedicated to the CPU and
the other for peripherals (drives etc ...)

It would be awsome to see a 530w to 550w comparrison . Why
are there no reviews of the 550w at all? Because it's a "server unit" perhaps?

That's the exact 550w Fortron we are talking about. (#FSP550-60PLN)
If by regular you mean a non server board with 20pin
ATX it should work fine provided you get a $10 20-24pin adapter.

id really like a 530W vs 550W vs OCZ Powerstream 520W vs PCP&C 510W comparison.

if thats too much, 550W fortron vs OCZ Powerstream 520W will do.

and i really dunno why there arent any reviews. the reader reviews at newegg look good tho.

couple of months back
I bought a Refurb Fortron 530 PSU from newegg for peanuts
And yes of course I was happy when I got it and it worked like a dream

then the Overclock bug bit my butt and found myself frequently playing with the 3.3V pot since I had the NF7-S then with the Vdimm mod that depended completley on your 3.3V voltage( Higher 3.3V= better Vdimm mod voltage)

Bt unfortunately I ended up spoling my 3.3V pot it became very sensitive and my system would shut off due to high fluctuations

Yes I became a very sad sad UNhooked esp since I got it for a steal

I even posted this on the Trading forum thinking tech savvy would buy it and fix it up
Alas no one replied ....then I belive it was Cartmenea who said I should pop out the spoiled pot and fix it with a better one

So i tried to do that ...screw up was that I didn;t know the original value of the broken pot

So I took a gamble and hooked up my 50K ohm pot

and guess what it worked ....altho I had to fine tune it to get the right value
and now runnin my machine with 3.55V

I just ordered the fortron 550, I needed it for the duallie Xeon rig im building. Cheapest i could find with the connectors that are needed.

I ordered one 550 too for my main rig today.

Don´t know but i think this puppy might be better than the Topower 520W based PSUs.

Either way any of the two whould be adequate for me i think :).
