Yes, this behavior is not so weird, because ( i assume you tested with Prime95 or Orthos ) if you check your RAM and your CPU with the Blend test or similar, the program will use big FFTs that stress the RAM, and some small FFTs that fit into the CPU's L2-Cache and will thus create the biggest heat output.
this board is one of the most picky boards I have tested with.First of all if you are not running the 1303 bios get them.They are the only bios that actually let you run stable while overclocked.I used to think that bios maybe made like a 1-2% difference,but these are night and day over any other bios out there(im talking about like 400mhz more on the cores diff)so if you havnt used those yet get them on there asap.
then you need to find the sweet spot on the fsb,this board hates 383-400 lol its a really picky board.
Dude, pull the Extreme 120 off and check the base with a straight edge razor blade. I bet you need to lap it. There are a lot of reports that it has a large ridge running down the base in line with the heatpipes. I lapped mine and now the heatsink gets warm and the CPU stays cooler.Quote:

edit: Consider using something like the HR-05-SLI on the MCP (northbridge) that offsets the fin assembly to reduce interference. So, I've tried to use the exact same voltages that someone suggested to me in this thread, didn't work. As i said, it will post at 1500 QDR but then nothing more, I'm stuck. I've tested to change every god damn voltage to different values but nothing changed, still freezes at post. If i hadn't spent every cent i got on this computer i would just have went out and gotten another board but since I can't do that, I would really like to get this to work. So, does anyone else have a tip for me, right now, I'm up for anything.
I thought i would install the 80mm NB-fan i got with the motherboard but unfortunatly there's was no room though my CPU-cooler took up all the place around the bridges. Don't think it gets to hot though, got 2x140mm and 1x120mm surrounding the bridges.
Please give me some other volt values to try out, would be much appreciated. :)

I putted way too much artic silver 5 before on my Heat sink....
i've removed it , and putted only a small bit, (was not enought) i've putted a bit more now. And the cooling is superb now !
while doing crounch it stay at 55 , MAX 60C, AVG 55C.
(my case is open with a fan blowing inside)
So my next step if everything work flawlessly will be to have a fun to blow at the North Bride, (will try to fit one somehow). and if it do work then that' it :)

what cpu and wich bios are you running,set the ram at 2.2 and dont bother going over that for the mem, ihave my chip at like 1.56 in bios for my 3.4 over clock.try upping the vcore a little alsoQuote:

Do you guys think the Striker Extreme and the Q6600 combination can run a FSB of 2000Mhz?

Had a hard time with 2000 myself, but let us know how it goes for you.
mine topped out at 1800 and the ram at like 470x2@44413 It might of been my ram keeping me back but you might be able to hit the 500mhz on the ram with your boardQuote:

Akuma quads and 680i are a pain in the butt, just go for Linflas settings ( works fab at 3.4 ghz here, 3.6Ghz is a no go on my Striker) they work, and maybe you can reduce the timings on the ram but I would prefer stability over ram mhz as these boards are very very picky with FSB/ram/ram timings...
2000FSB will be a dream mate on this board with a quad

Update on the Pencil Vcore mod... If you draw a line too bold/thick/full it lowers the voltage. If however you draw a gentle line, it works 100%! First time I did it, 1.675v bios was 1.47v real, this time 1.675v bios is 1.66v real! :D
Draw one line, test it, power down and draw another, until your happy with it.
THEN do the vdroop mod to stabilise it. 1.6v bios is now 1.58v under load, nearly 1.59v!
anybody ran into the "cmos error" LCD debug message, and i?f so what's the cure

thanks for your suggestions i , have upped all my voltages at some point,
but i still cant get it to go past the 3gh ,
i did get it to 3.2 but i could not get it stable and when i rebooted the pc froze and i lost all my settings, and did'nt get chance to write them down.
this board is a nightmare.
will i be better off takeing two ram out of the pc and try with just 2 instead of the 4 i have at the moment?

For ya quad 1.2 HT is very important plz up to 1.5 at least to be stable , my quad also needed 1.5 CPU VTT to be stable at 425FSB, 450 needed to need more... but never got that one stable...
also the Arctic cooler doesn't cut it with quads mate , better get somehting beefier going, what are ya temps at 3ghz under Prime ?

Best of luck on 2000FSB with a Quad, I cant get with a Dual, 1900FSB is max, but acts up sometimes with 2GB or 4GB of Memory.
Dont know WTF lamers Asus are playing at but they have a bios 1401, its not on site or FTP but they gave it to a peep today by mail who had issues with new OCZ Reaper X 4GB Kit.
He has just 15mins ago loaded it up and says his Ram is now working inc SPD and is going to mail the bios to me.
If you get it mailed to you, please please please upload it asap!!!
Yeah please upload the bios. I got a Quad that can do 3.6Ghz on air easy but not on this board...

Just got mail 30secs ago, about to burn a DVD with it and 1303 incase it goes bad, the date is Sep sometimes but then again the date on 1035 is old too.
