has anyone try this fan http://www.acousticpc.com/mechatronics_fans.html? im looking for performance.
holy crap, that seems like a Delta killer. Running at over 18w, you wouldn't be able to power this from any commercially available controller and most certainly not a mobo header. You would need to run this straight from an adapter to a molex. Even the Sunbeam Rehobus can only stand up to 18w max per channel.
PTS its $16.99 PPCs its $14.95 Newegg its sold out $13.99
so up to you again. its not dead silent but the performance is amazing dropped my temps by close to 5 degrees from s-flex f series to this.
i'm going for the s-flex f fans for the top fans cause these fans are 119 don't really clip on the tj09 fan bracket that well.
Delta FFBs still own.

So what is the quietest fan at stock voltages? I'm in australia so the Noctua's are easy to get...
What sort of noises are the Minebea fans making when undervolted that make them undesirable? Besides the noise is the performance good at lower voltages?
I was really wanting the Sharkoon 2000 for the two top blow holes of my TJ09 but apparently being sleeved they don't work well when placed on their back horizontally? I never knew this before. I guess sleeved fans should sit vertically to work best as performance dropped if placed on their back horizontally?
Hey Vapor,
Have you ever taken a look at the Silverstone FN122's? http://www.petrastechshop.com/12sifncafanb.html
I've replaced all of my fans in my U2-UFO home office machine with these and they're quieter than any fan I've ever owned. I'm wondering if there's a catch or if their design works well with the radiator as well.
When I got my FM123, I also ordered an FN122, but it was out of stock. A few posts up, I do mention how interested I am in it....
I'll look into it again....but my FM123 will not be included in my tests because it's the biggest POS I've ever tested, beyond being a lemon....not happy with Silverstone right now.
I haven't heard anything from them which is a good thing. I'm only worried about how well they work with radiators. I normally use yates for my silent builds, but after keeping tabs vapor's reviews, I took a leap of faith and bought some silverstone fans.
I'd like to see how these stack up against the competition.
those are rated as 40.9cfm 18dBA thats amazing.
Wow, thanks for your effort on this testing.
FWIW, here are additional fans I'd like to see put through the same wringer.
Antec TriCool 120
Arctic Cooling AF12025PWM
Arctic Cooling AF12PWM
A test on the Antec Tricool would help guide people with the Nine Hundred or P18x cases.
Yeah, the tri-cools are actually not terrible fans (handy 3-speed switch), but for the most part, it would give a lot of us something to compare cooling/noise levels to.
Anyone know of a good retailer for the EBM Papst 4412FGML? I can't find one any where. I like the Shakoons also but I can't stand the colour, and my case has a window so they would bug me to no end. >.<
I give up on Silverstone fans. Really.
1) FM121 (so lauded by many) just fails to perform well....and is deceitfully and horribly overrated.
2) FM122 performs even worse, makes annoying noises, eats up a lot of power....oh, and it's deceitfully overrated as well.
3) FN121 has annoying wiring (double molex) but is otherwise pretty good....keeps up with a fake Yate Loon SL at least.
4) FM123 makes the FM122/121 seem like good fans....has the new title as "most annoying". Really, I'd rather have a 220CFM Delta running than one of those POS.
5) FN122 SHOULD have been good, I turned it on, it was really quite and pleasing to listen to, no annoying noises. Then I try my CFM tester: 26CFM at 12V!!!!! Been running for a few hours now and it's up to 29CFM at 12V
Officially, no more Silverstones....
Hi everyone, Im a new guy, this is probably my first post. Ive been reading some forums here on fans, and processors and the like, and ive been very impressed with the amount of hard data there is. (Ive been on Overclock.net for a long time, and like cyberdruid said, there are a lot of opinions, and no hard data. Or little, anyway)
I have a watercooling setup with a 1977 bonneville dual heatercore, which pulls air up from the bottom of my case. I was looking at the graphs, and it looks like the Sharkoon Golf ball fans are my best bet. I have good hearing, so Im looking for a fan as silent as possible, which pushes (or pulls) the most air through a radiator. Im using TT-1225 fans, (A1225M12S) and they're louder than I want. Would the Golf ball fans be recommended for this sort of situation? I have a Aerogate II fan controller, so I can always drop RPM if I need to to make it silent. Any fan suggestions would be welcome! Thanks!
Interesting findings. I don't have any real test gear but an LC tech station with a PA160/shroud--so simply changing a fan is somewhat of a comparitor, but I found pretty much the same thing...the FN 121 is not much of a fan--but it is fairly quiet compared to the others. I didn't get any more cooling from the FM 121 than I did from a number of other lower cfm fans--that could be just a flaw in my testing though.
Thanks for the great work!

read Vapor and Ar3s mentioning abt the Yate Loon D14SM being mislabeled, well think i got the same here, tried 3 dif 140mm fans in anticipation of the Thermalright IFX-14

Seems like none of the 3 fans i tested will be any good for a heatsink, initially used it to cool my hdd's w a fan filter behind but doesnt seem to push any air and my hdd temps shot up. Positioned like the pix below
And using the ghetto method ie my hand being abt 8-10 inches away @ 12v, Aerocool pushes the most, followed closely by Evercool and lastly the YL, but i wouldnt recommend any of these fans for anything other than pushing free air with no obstructions whatsoever eg heatsink fins. So now im thinking IFX-14 will fit a 140mm fan but what fan ?
And A BiG Thx Vapor for taking the time and trouble n dishing up ur own cash to test the fans
Edited:
Just found these fans on Sharkoon site under system fans:
Model:S1402515P-3
Type:Power
Size:140X140X25
RPM:1500
CFM:82.8
db(A): 33,0
Anyone tried this fan?
what would be the best way to power a Sanyo Denki San Ace 172mm that draws 2.3A and 31.2W ? 12 v dc
http://sanyodb.colle.co.jp/product_d...elect_size=140
the medium speed is 116.5cfm
Now that might be a decent fan for that HS
how many fans are missing from the front graphs? also are the front graphs the retested numbers? i read a little about how your mic was creeping closer
ive been trying to read through it but its a LOT to go through and it seems like theres a lot of fan data scattered through the posts thats not organized yet
First off, thanks for making this thread. Its great, stupendous, super-dooper. I can't thank you enough Vapor. So much work, so little time, right?
I'm in the same boat as 0rion. I am also searching for the best fans to use with a radiator. I wouldn't mind High-rpm as long as I can turn it down so that I can sleep at night (at least to the db level of the low setting on a tri-cool antec 120 fan. Yes, its reared its ugly head again).
I just got some arctic cooling fans and I am going to test them in a minute. I must first turn off this computer b/c it sounds like a hurricane. They seem loud to me, especially over a radiator. Anyone else use them on rads and have turbulence problems? And can anyone recommend a good fan to use on a Rad (w/ or w/o) a rheostat that is quiet enough to sleep w/ (like the low setting on an antec tri-cool 120mm, DUN DUN DUN...) but put out enough air if I really want to do some major cooling?
Sorry for the long massage....
The tricool on medium setting seems to be about the same noise level as the AF12 fan with on 12v going through the m. OF course, we need some hard data to back this up.
I hope this sorta helps someone out there. Of course, again, Vapor is the guy who can validate this.
