Agreed but when running Prime / Orthos you get to stress the CPU far greater than your game will. I can tell you though for a :fact: as I have been BF2 and BF2142 fanatic and went through really bad RAM failing experiences that those two games utilize the ram far greater than any other piece of software I know of.

Prime / Orthos I just use for primary CPU overclock testing and it has been very reliable for that purpose. I'd say BF2142 or BF2 would be my RAM test vs anything else, I don't think memtest stresses ram as much in fact my bad ballistix a while back would go 24 hours no errors in memtest and BSOD random while in BF2 / Windows during ram operations.

I have a L624A819 E6600. There has been NOTHING I've read that says that batch was stellar at ANYTHING.

I also have a L626A301 E6400 that I have gotten to runs at 3600Mhz at what I call 24/7 stability.
Well - this may be a threadjack. Sorry about that.

I run two machines for a reason. One to USE and the other to Tinker with. In the beginning, i expected the 4MB cache 6600 to not yield as impressive an overclock as the 2MB 6400. But after reading so many success stories about E6600's getting into the 3.6 - 4.0 range..............

Khaotic, i know exactly how you feel. I did the dummy back in august when the c2ds were scarce and bought 2 6600s. The first one wouldnt boot on air on a DS3 at 3.6ghz and would prime at 3.3ghz with 1.6volts. I didnt want any of the boards available at the time so i built a friend a computer with that cpu and figured my other one had to be better.

I should have tested both at the time but i didnt want to open the other because i wasnt sure if i was going to sell it and grab a 6700. A couple weeks later i caved and picked up a P5B Deluxe. Went straight to 400x9 and got nothing. The board wouldnt boot 3.6ghz at any voltage. Tried a couple bios updates and the highest boot i could get was 3.5ghz and the best orthos was 3.2ghz.

I blamed the P5Bs nasty vdroop and went through the first stage of denial. I returned the board and ran across the aw9d-max at frys. I bought it dropped the cpu in and big typhoon on and booted right up at 400x9 so i figured thats a start. The best i could do on air was 3.35ghz orthos stable and 411X9 boot. I got my phase about a week later and was finally able to get 3.8ghz orthos stable and can boot 4ghz suicides.

I think its time for people to start admitting that most of the earlier week cpus just cant do it and its not user error. I just found a buyer for my cpu today and i want to move on to a 3070 but i just cant seem to find any. I would just get a 3060 but its not a good fit for my board and i dont really want to jump ship on the aw9d-max just yet.

Ouch, My L623A E6600 could only manage 3.7ghz dual 32m and 3.6 orthos and I thought it was a piece of crap :(

They do work. The L628B in my Sig is running in an Evga 680i right now.

I'm beginning to question the contact of the IHS with any HSF.

I've noticed that if I don't put enough AS5 on the IHS, parts of the IHS do not touch the waterblock i have...

this may be the reason why your temps are so high.

basically, these are my settings:

fsb: 411
multi: 9x
bootstrap: 1066
cpu/ddr: 1:1
vcore: 1.4125
vdimm: 2.0
vmch: 1.8

ram timings: 4-4-4
trfc: 28

Did I miss anything in particular you're looking for? Btw, I'm using the B03 bios, too.

I remounted my TTBT last night which dropped my idle temps 2-3C but I still cap out at 81C under Orthos load...no matter what the voltage!:eek: I don't understand why that is.:confused:

My buddy has the same rig as me (3060, AW9D-Max, 2GB Ballistix, TTBT) and can run Orthos on Blend at 423! I'm using the mcx159-cu and he's using the stock chipset cooling, although we've both removed the stocking cooling/heatsinks and applied AS5. He runs at 1.55Vcore and at much cooler temps than mine (~75C under load) even though we have the same cpu cooler. He is using the new TTBT VX model whereas I have the original TTBT, the only difference seems to be that the VX mount is much much easier to affix to the motherboard. I am completely perplexed as to how this could be except to surmise that his IHS is flatter than mine. I'm considering getting either the newer VX or a Tuniq, but as we are near the weekend I couldn't reasonably expect delivery before middle of next week. Also, can I truly rationalize spending ~$70 for 100-200MHz? I know this is XS but that seems like poor economics to me.;) I'd rather wait to see what the rd600 will bring to the table and take a slight hit on the resale of this AW9D.

At any rate, I seem to be walled with blend at 411fsb although I did manage 5+ hours of SmallFFT's at 423fsb. Between the cpu/mobo upgrade (opty165@2.7 vs c2d@3.7) and the video upgrade (1800xt vs 8800gts) I'm loving bf2142 at 1920x1200 with all the bells and whistles cranked up. :)

Running Blend @ 411 is rather good for this board, I cannot even run blend over ~400 or so, but I think that is more an issue of running over 1.8vmch in bios.

I think you should be able to run Small FFT for hours @ 420-433 fsb, just depending on what cpu voltage you need and what vMCH your running.

statistically it seems the B chips tend to clock higher, to the tune of ~100-200MHz. my B 3060 does 3.6GHz with 1.3625Vcore (1.38V actual) and 3.7GHz with 1.4125Vcore (1.44V actual) with a TTBT using a lowspeed fan...Orthos blend stable yadayada ;)
