Welcome to xtremesystems Crashtack :)
Thats got to be whats happening on my board then :D Its always nice to get lower temps no matter how small, unless you are cold bugged ;)
I've seen a few posts claiming we have 8 phases with overvoltage and 4 when it is disabled.
I do not think so.
In my case all 8 mosfets are equally hot with overvoltage disabled.
I believe we have 8 phases either way (with or without overvoltage).
I would appreciate any info on the subject.
Are there any other boards out there with the same 8 phase power regulation?
Or is it unique to this board only?
In this very thread Marios :)Quote:

I saw this post and this is why I never said my thoughts about 8 phases.
But I am not convinced.
This is a unique 8 phase board and I never saw any info on this.
When ASUS advertises A8N32-SLI Dlx as an 8 phase board I doubt this is under certain conditions, like "when enabling CPU overvoltage".
8 phase must work even at default vcore.
Otherwise someone might be able to take legal actions against ASUS.
My CPU has a vcore of 1.3 to 1.35.
Although I am stable at 1.3v without overvoltage, the basic vcore must be over 1.2v with overvoltage.
I cannot boot with a vcore under 1.2v even though I should, since 1.135+overvoltage (0.165v)=1.3v.
The same could be said of a number of things that could be changed in the bios then. CNQ, GB lanx2, SATA, Raid. All can be enabled/disabled so why not 8 phase power (CPU overvolt). I don't have a measuring tool so I couldn't tell if the 8 phase is in use with or without the overvolt enabled, just speculation. Personally I have the cpu overvolt option enabled all the time (1.2+0.2=1.4v) as it dosn't fluctuate as much underload.
Doesn't the voltage apply in two stages, like 1.2 and then the extra 0.2 when the BIOS has come up? I'm sure I read that somewhere. It might explain why you can't boot below a certain base vcore, Marios. And I'm sure I've had the same problem myself.
Edit: this is an interesting review concerning overall power consumption and the mystery extra chipset:

PCDOC1,
It is not the price, I wanted something to install "once" and forget about it. To enjoy all the hardware.
Thanks, I should measure mine and see what the real voltage/output is. In AsusProbe, it says 11.84V all the times. It says the same thing on my Enermax 535W as well. I'm beginning to think my measure isn't really accurate as it says the same thing on two PSUs. But a measurement should be able to give me the correct value.Quote:

I have solved the problem , as you can see I have PSU680W from thermaltek old version 38A on 12V, but that was the problem the power 12V was not stabile when I run the 3d marks in SLI mode ,I had to checkup the 12V output of my PSU by using voltmeter and I found the 12V drop to 11V or less than that when the PC under load, this is the cause of my problem, what I have done it is to open the PSU and increase the 12V relay by monitoring the 12V output in real time using the voltmeter ,so after I have got stabile12V under load my problem gone away now.

Glad everything is falling into place. Also, if you have the newer Thermaltake PurePower 680W, you might not have any problem at all (as reported by many users who have the older units). I reported my finding of the newer or revised units here: http://www.abxzone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102000
Instead of just combined 38A on the 12V rails, it now has a combined amps of 55A, so it's got plenty of power (much more than the older units) to power your system. Glad I waited this long to get it as mine is the latest or revised unit that offers more than previous units.
I just bumped up the FSB to 300 from 250 does anyone see anything wrong with these timings.
As far as I can tell its stable. Can game for hours and it runs Einstien no problems.

Any fix for the "warm boot bug" when cpu pver volt enabled?
I need 1.5V but it gives me that aggrivating warm boot but.
please help I am going nuts. :(
Vcore 1.335 + Over voltage 0.165 = 1.5v
Is this what you give and you get the warm boot?
Turns out it is my PSU.

At least you found the real cause to the problem and didn't result to blaming the motherboard:clap:
i read the first 20 pages and got impatient :). i just got a couple quick question to make up my decision between a8n32 sli deluxe and the sli-dr expert. i currentely have an a8n sli deluxe first rev and an a8n-e. both of which cannot do 1t ~ 240-245 fsb. and this is pissing me off. if read that some people are limited to 1t ~ 285-290 which i dont really worry about but is there any fix in later rev's or anything of this board or bios updates that fixes the 1t problem @ all? and is there any cases of people being limited to anything under ~ 270?. this is basically my only concern for this board but if someone could answer this question and maybe list what remaining problems there is with this board it would be most appreciated. thank you
DFI all the wayQuote:

I was gettting slow downs with the 1103 bios and did get a BSOD - but been fine when I went back to 1009 - have 'Q&C' enabled and works fine with an overclock - seach the thread - works a treat (thanks Marois again)
But generally I am very happy with the mobo but depends on how high u want your overclock and how stable u require your system - unless u want to play super PI
i got my self ocz enhanced latency platnum edition pc4200 512 sticks. i have gotten them to 2.5-3-3-8@ 285 on my a8n-e but as i said only 2t :(. i want a board that can do this @ 1t so i can actually get a good memory bandwidth and i know dfi is a for sure winner but i was thinking about trying asus one more time it can do this. both my a8n sli deluxe and a8n-e have been a huge disapointement for over 245 fsb ocing for memory. i will have a small oc for 24/7 use its just the hi end i want to do every once in a while for some benchmarking endevurs. so if people can post the highest they have done 1:1 @ 1t that would be great so i could possably see the avg that i am gonna have if i do choose the asus over dfi once again. i also heard someone say the asus is better for stapability and long use anyways.

thats cool. thanx for the info. i was really gonna get the sli-dr expert but its hard to find where as i can get the a8n32 sli deluxe right now if i wanted to. damn canadian stores :) itsj ust ive been able to get my memory to 285 but only @ 2t on my other boards and im killing to take em to there max @ 1t which i was hoping this board will do. people have hit ~ 285-290 so thats good but theres the few people that scare me saying they cant do 250 or anything :(. anyways thanx for the info and please more people post there highest clock @ 1:1 1t to please and thank you :)
My A8N32-SLI has given me 120mhz over my DFI Ultra-D same mem and CPU! I'm still tweaking my timings I'm pretty sure I can get it to 150. Great board! not perfect but theres still lots of headroom for BIOS maturity so this board has lots of potential of getting the overclockers performance crown this season.
I just got my A8N32 board back from RMA...when booting up I can never see the BIOS post screen, all I get is a black screen up until the XP loading bar comes on...anyone else experiencing this or know of a way to fix it?
*to get into the BIOS I now just blindly hit the DEL key when I see the black screen and I'm able to enter the BIOS but I want to see the full load screen
load bios defaults in bios should sort itQuote:

Fellow A8N32-SLI owners,
I'm having a really mysterious problem with getting the X1900XT to work with the board. Below is the URL for my problem--will you be kind enough to help?
Basically, I got two X1900XTs in two (or more) different setups, and none of them can get the card to work. It's hard to believe I received 2 DOAs in a row, so I'm suspecting I'm doing something really, really stupid but I can't think of any. The symptoms point to power issues but I tried it with just powering the GPU and still won't work. Seasonic 500 should certainly be giving enough power to the GPU.
http://forums.anandtech.com/messagev...&enterthread=y
Thanks.
The manual is no help on identifying which chip drives "LAN 1" and "LAN 2"...the A8N32 manual says that both LAN 1 and LAN 2 are Marvell LAN's
"Supported by Marvell Gigabit LAN controller, this port allows Gigabit connection to a Local Area Network (LAN) through a network hub."
but I believe that Nvidia is LAN 1 and Marvell is LAN 2...can anyone confirm this?...also which one is best to use the Nvidia or Marvell LAN?...I have heard that the Marvell LAN has much higher CPU utilization...true?

So did a search and got the CrystalCPUID 4.7.2.293 and very impressed so far
set it in the bios to CPUx10 and htt250 and the Vcore to 1.3V with the overvolt option =0.2V
then had the full range of multiplers availble X4 to X11 ( had the higher ones too but dont think these will work somehow)
so set the multi to
Min x4 0.9V
Mid x7 1.2V
Max x11 1.4V
plus the overvolt of 0.2V is still active
So far working a dream no slowdowns and do like the little Icon tray where u can set it to min/mid /max and presently dual priming at 1000MHz
the overclock can easy be raised or dropped on the fly with a couple of clicks no need to go into the bios to try out a new voltage.
So when I frag it gets hot but when I stop the temp really drops:cool:
Yep Running 1103 here on the same board as well, and had the same problem with the Temps. wiped all Nvedia drivers and reloaded them, works like a charm.
Only one gripe with this board for me, The reset jumper is almost imposable to get to. have to remove one of my vid cards to get to it, and then its behind one of the Pci-e release tabs. other than that, its like a Cadillac, big and roomy with plenty of toys and speed to boot.
I realized I screwed up by saying d/l the source code...oops. it is here: LINK and click on the picture of Crystal CPUID. Mine has been working fine and I really like how fast it responds and how cool it is when Idle. 1.3 volts most of the time when not loaded has to be better on your cpu :D I am glad it is working for you and G/L
What is the best bios for this board, i have one and my Gskill HZ doesnt pass the 265 stable and if i put dividers it doesnt pass 277:confused: , if a put a multi of 12, 13 the board does not boot( i have a FX60).
Any help?

Ok bad news for me :(
I can't get the overvolt option to work any more. I have loaded defaults and reflashed the BIOS, but no matter what I do the vcore will not go over 1.42v and overvolting vcore does nothing
I wondered why my PC would not boot without bluescreens and the answer was the CPU was only getting 1.34v!!
This is a royal pain in the ASS to be sure.
Any ideas?? :(
Clear CMOS, remove the battery for a few mins, replace, start up see if that clears the problem up.Quote:

It's a rev 1.01 board. The overvolt was working fine and now...... nothing.
I left it unplugged overnight with the battery out and it still won't overvolt.
I should take the board out and test with my heatsink etc... but that is a real pain when you have a well installed contact on your mach II.
sigh..........
EDIT: I ran the board on my test bed with the default AMD heatsink and it would not overvolt. I have sent the board back for an RMA. Very strange that it should just stop working out of nowhere, but there you go...
I must mention that I thought rev 1.01 was the only version available. Isn't the rev 2.00 stuff floating around the web just BS? :stick:Quote:

anyone know what this device is and how to fix this?...somebody advised me that it could be because I did not install the Nvidia IDE driver that came with the nForce drivers...I chose to use the Windows IDE driver instead...also I was informed that it might be because I did not install the Marvell Yukon ethenet driver from the ASUS CD...I am using the Nvidia LAN so I did not feel it was necessary to install the Yukon driver...
anyone have any suggestions/help..Thanks
I think that if you install Asus PC Probe II the "other device" will disappear :)

From what I have read there isn't a mobo out there that runs with the mem at 1T if all the four dimms are used, it has to run at 2T even if u fill all the dimms with 512Mb x 4 it has to run at 2TQuote:

Really!? Wait a minute now, don't get me too excited, okay? Not that I don't trust you, I want you to double check it to make sure it's 1.02 and NOT 1.01. Because if it is 1.02, then that's the sign that I should jump the gun. Up until now, what everyone was getting is the 1.01 and according to Anandtech's review, it has glitch that rev. 1.02 suppose to fix it (so Anandtech's hope). Reply back quick...plz... Thanks!Quote:

It's the deluxe, I don't think that there is a non-deluxe verison of this board. The little sticker on the pci slot say rev 1.02
First of all... Thank you thank you thank you to ben for starting this thread and to everyone who has contributed... I had been very frustrated with the "warm boot" issue and it is good to hear some theories and explanations. In my situation with an opty165 the warm boot happens right at 300*9 or 340*8 and it really bugs me. If the darn board would just become unstable or fail to post entirely I would just figure that 2.65 is all it's gonna do and I would be satisfied... but when I can cold boot and it's stable (8 hours prime) at 2760 and maybe higher I just can't let it go.
I decided to buy this board to eventually become an all-purpose server (active directory, file hosting, dhcp and dns, exchange, ISA, etc...) The dual-gigabit lan and the raid 5 controller as well as supporting a dual-core opteron make this a really cheap solution for me. It will be at least a year before I need the server however, so in the meantime (until vista) I will be using this setup for gaming.
I have read to "only" page 30 so far so I appologize if this has been asked already but isn't there a homebrew bios available?? (I am thinking something like the uberbios I had for my A7V8X [*edit* it was a A7N8X actually] which allowed for increased voltages) I cannot do any extreme mods to this board that may affect stability down the road. Normaly I would read the entire thing before replying but I would really like to have a warm boot solution before the weekend.
Once again thank you and congratulations. This thread is an incredible wealth of knowledge and much better than any A8N32 review I have read (and I think I must have read them all)
Is it on a sticker or an imprint right onto the board (in between the blue PCI-E X16 and first PCI slots)? At least that's where I see the name Asus anyway, but I guess it may be different for some mobo? Hey, can you do me a favor? If you have CPU-Z, look under the Mainboard tab and see what it says after the board (Model) name. To the right of Model, there is another field that will tell what board revision you have. Verify that and if it's still 1.02, tell me where you got yours and I will place an order for one as well.Quote:

Mustang, where did you buy yours from and when?

Hmmm...a guy just posted at ABX saying he just got his today (Fri) and it's still 1.01, he's about to cry. Are you sure there isn't any other rev. written or imprinted anywhere on your board? If you are, then I guess Newegg wants to get rid of all rev. 1.01 before selling 1.02 and you were lucky to get one from their latest shipment? I'm somewhat puzzled.Quote:

Not that I'm aware of, even the official bios takes awhile to release, but I'm sure sooner or later some modded bios will pop up here and there :D :DQuote:
