I hope cpu burn in on both cores increases my oc..
I had to back mine down from 2500 to 2480 because of some wierd reason, the whole pc freezes at 2.5 now, Im gonna cpu burn in both cores for 8 hrs and then try to get back to 2.5
Any recomendations for burn in to increase my oc, im using stock 1.35V for now until enough bawlz to do Vmod to my mobo..
When i burned in my 3800X2 i run CPU Burnin on both
cores at stock speeds with just under the stock voltages.
I kept running Prime95 untill it was passing for around 5mins then
lowered it untill i found the lowest volts that it would run 5min prime for.
Then simply run dual Burnin for 12Hrs.
I think it has made a differnce as i can hit 2.7Ghz with 1.5v Prime Dual
12hr+ stable.

On a cooler day 2800 should be no problem I hope :)
My X2 is at 70 degrees full load and it's running Folding 24/7. Will it last for the next 2-3 years or will it kick the bucket soon? :stick:
update x2 4400+ on wc 1.75vcore 1.4chipset

i'm trying to do this now. my 3800+ X2 does 2.75 (275x10) sweet @ 1.525@auto and hits 38C under load on air cooling, but i have to go to 1.65v for 2.8GHz and the first core fails after a few mins of superPI.Quote:

I think my memory controller is giving up the ghost, the strain of running 2gb at 255x11 seems too much for it now :(
Memtest and small FFTs in prime are fine, but large FFTs error immediately
I got my new memory to day 2*1gb ballistix pc 4000 .
Got it stabil on 250*11 ,her is picture after +- 12 hours testing,
My goal is 2800mhz on my typhoon /120mm enermax fan and 2.9-3.0ghz on water :)
2750mhz on air
i just got a x2 4200 and was wondering what volts are safe for benching? & for 24/7?
they only run 1.3V default but some people are putting upto 1.75V through them, i wouldnt even go over 1.65V with my 146
they dont half run cold though, my naked 146 is 38C load were has this naked is 25C idle & 30C load :toast:
edit: just run maxtcase & it says 55C :(
is it a good stepping ADBHE 0514UPAW
That's an old one, i've not seen many that old. Never seen ADBHE either. I reckon it might be quite decent, but only one way to find out...
well usually the older ones clock slightly more which is why i went for it so fingers crossed :D
so far it does 2.4ghz 1.3V & 2.5ghz 1.4V :toast:

ive hit a weird problem with mine, 11x256 (2.81ghz) passes on core 1 @ 1.55V but core 2 fails within 2 minutes even @ 1.62V, changed it to 11x255 (2.8ghz) and its now been priming on both cores for 1 hour with no problems
surely 10mhz cant have that kind of affect and the cpu is still only 36C under load, suppose im gonna stick the ram on a divider with very slack timings & low ldt multi and hope it works (i hate problems lol) :(
EDIT: now running 11x257 (2.83ghz) dropped the ldt to 3x, ram on a 180 divider and slackened the timings slightly and its now going strong :D
seems core 2 is a little sensitive to ram tho :(
Memory controller is the key here. If you relax memory timmings/speed you can get higher but that is irrelevant since relaxing memory you get lower performance. Benchmarks are essential, if you do not get better benchmarks by going higher, it is not worth.
I am now running 3800 at 2.7 GHz but with OCZ Gold BH-5 at 245 2-2-2-6-1, and I have better benches than when I was running it at 2.78 GHz with the G.Skill TCCD crap. I dumped G.Skill (watch me if I ever buy G.Skill again).
im gonna leave it at 2.7ghz for 24/7 as it only needs 1.5V & load temp is only 34C & benches higher than my 146 @ 3ghz :woot:
2.8ghz needs 1.62V & relaxed ram to get it stable so isnt worth it, will do a suicide bench run with it in a day or 2 though as i can get in windows @ 2.9ghz with 1.65V but only bench stable (3dmark)
but this X2 is by far the best £120 ive ever spent :toast:
*offtopic* joe, what was wrong with your g.skill tccd?
i was thinking of getting some tccd, either geil one or some g.skill
@ tatts, you got your 4200 for £120  where from? :stick: :p:
i paid £350 for my 4400 in July
someone removed the ihs to replace the paste then put it back on and it was 65C idle then couldnt use it without the ihs as they was on air so i got a bargain lol
as for tccd vs bh5, ill take geil or ocz tccd all day long, bh5 needs ridicolous volts which makes it run alot hotter & will kill your cpu if its on low volts. you may get tighter timings on bh5 but A64's dont like it too tight and it ends up being slower

Geil One is the cheapest of this "high voltage" Winbonds so the best to buy. It is also available. Now I use brand new OCZ Gold (BH-5), but I have a lucky pair that overclocks over 250 under 3.3V. I know that is not the case with every pair and since they are rated only 3200 one cannot complain. So I would go with Geil One but the W version.
I have to say that in the past Geil had rather bad customer service that I remember.
I agree on all points (no experience with their customer support, though).Quote:

My benchmarks indicate that 250 MHz 2-2-2-5 is faster than 312 MHz 3-4-4-8, so I agree that good BH-5 is certainly faster than good TCCD. Not that either matters much for real-world performance.
I did find that BH-5 are a hassle to run, however, and reduced to 1 kit for benchmarking and use "nicer" RAM for work.
Ok, here is my OC:
X2 3800+ (Manchester) @ 2.5Ghz, 1.5Vcore on STOCK COOLING!!!
Is this ok? or are the temps to high?
i won't go higher cause of cooling.
some comments on this?
thanks
57?? I would FREAK if my temps ever went over 50! I have pretty good air cooling (waiting for all the goddamn WCing parts), and a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118115 on the CPU... it cools GREAT! idles around 25-30 idle, and when playing BF2 maxed, it runs at about 38-44 overclocked at 2.4GHz... (slow memory+BF2=lockups, so 2.4 with ram at 1/1 is about what I bother with)Quote:

hmmmmmm...just for grins..i went down to a friends computer store and he had a x2 3800+ 0541 ( didnt even look at the rest, i was just borrowing it to get my system ready for a x2 4400... ill look later )
well...with it set to 1.50 volts, i get to 10x270 no problem @ 42c load ( water ):toast: ... will pass 32m PI but at 275 it wont. i havent really tried anything to get it higher ( burning in ) right now im running stock voltage1.35 @ 10x250 temps @ 37c idle ( looping water with a CPU and x1800xl ).
i think its a keeper....im sure i can get it stable @ 2.75...but i need some help guys....im working crazy hours and i would like info on what programs for monitoring, benching etc....ive seen them spread throughout forums but i just cant remember where they are all, or how to set them up to run with a x2.....i know this may be a hassel, but with them spread so far inbetween..its hard to find... anyone willing to help a new x2 user on to the right track? lol im not sure how to set infinity etc..basically stick horse stupid with an x2 in my hands
thanx guys...when i pull the water block off to hook up second water cooling system, tonight or tomorrow, ill give steppings etc.

EDIT: im @ 10x215 @ 1.250 volts with atitool running 3d view, core center showing 41c,watching a movie,and pi running 32m..... is it a keeper??? TcaseMaxV1.14 shows 63c....65.6 watts
Lol my X2 has been murdered then resurected, stay tuned for pics and explination
Its now 938 X23800 with Bigazz chip off corner of core topless, but 38 loaded :P on air
I have 4400 @ 2755Mhz [CCB2E 0536MPMW], it has been getting hotter and hotter. It was 31C idle and 44C loaded yesterday. Today it's 37C idle and 57C with prime running on each core. System temp is 36C. This is with water, well a water like substance ( flourinert ) Should I reseat it again?
Good luck with this, I've been thru this problem 3 times, once with a 4800+ and twice with 170's...... It seems that if you hit a dually too hard you don't kill the chip, you just screw it in some way. My 4800 was running 2.8 @ 1.48 with temps of 34/44. One night while under the influence I decided to give a push to 2.9. Hit it with 1.55 and got 2.9 but not stable. Took it back to 1.48 and 2.8 and temps never came back (on water), they were now 42/58. I moved the chip to two other rigs and had the same problem. Today it's runs in anything 2.5 @ stock voltage 38/52 and that's it. Bump vcore to even 1.4 and temps are out of control. I originally though is was just that chip but now I’ve experienced the same situation with 2 170’s. So I no longer will give a dually more than 1.5. There’s plenty of people out there running higher vcore so I’m not claiming my conclusion is gospel but I have proven it to myself. Today 1.5 is max, if I can’t get where I want to be at that vcore, end of story, I consider the chip maxed!Quote:

hopefully will get it stable at 2600; need to find the right settings for the ocz tcc5 at that speed 1:1. i think that will be my max overclock with this cpu on my board (1,5v core).
strange thing is, it does not boot into windows with a hight htt and 9xmulti.
amd x2 is a very nice cpu though, better than my venice @2800. :)
i had one of them for a while, gotta say, it wasn't all that great. Mine needed about 1.5v for 2500mhz stable. On Water.Quote:

Does the o/cability of lower cache is better?
And something else...
Which are the "good" weeks?
I have a CCBWE 0529RPMW 3800+ Toledo which overclocks moderately well, 2.55 MHz at 1.55 volts IIRC (long ago).
Look at my sig, the X2 3800 is good for 2.8GHz with 1.52Vcore everything torture stable x 2Quote:

Running 2.5 now 100% stable at 1.475, 1.450 might be possible but 1.425 wasn't stable in the long run.
Edit: 2.65 went ok at 1.600 vcore but 2.7 was a no-go, hung right away. Trying out 2.5 with 1.450 vcore as we speak :)
0533SPMW running 2.7ghz with 1.525v, and burning in. I think the 0533 was a very average week, i had an 0537SPMW which was absolute crap (needed about 1.5v for 2500mhz) and not tried any others.
I reckon CCBWE 0538XPMW might be a good'un. Just a guess though.
i could use some advice. as my post count could tell you, i'm new to oc'ing. and i've read through most of this thread.
i have:
x2 4400+
DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR (not expert)
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 Dual Channel Platinum
ASUS EN6800GT 256MB
right now i have it at 11x237 getting 2.607 at 1.536v (curious to know how far x2 4400's have been pushed on air). i havent messed with mem settings as of yet.
couple questions. i see people going up to 1.7v, although i wouldnt since i'm still aircooled. but my bios only lets me have a setting of 1.55v as far as i can tell. is that usual? something i'm missing or just a limitation of my board? (i updated it as soon as i built the rig on monday)
second question, i see a lot of people asking "whats your steppings". while i think i understand what steppings are, where can i find them? printed on chip? any other way to get them? or am i way off?
lastly, does anyone suggest i start messing with the mem settings, or just leave it be if it seems stable. if i'm reading cpu-z right, i have 2.5-3-2-5-7 right now. just looking for overall advice on this one.
i know part of the fun is experimenting, and i have no problem with that. but a push in the right direction, and having an idea of what my limitations are would be nice.
thanks guys.
Need a quick answer..
Is a 4400 X2 Retail..
CCBWE 0522TPMW
A good stepping?
Air limit for fully stable from what I've seen are about 2.5-2.7ghz (very few going 2.7ghz if ever). There might be some odd bits that were reported higher but doubt it was dual prime 95 stable, super pi 32m stable and gaming stable too. Most of people don't go above 1.6v at all due to heat issues.
my X2 is doing very well :D

About steppings what should I do? Buy a new 4400+ or buy older steppings like 31 or 28?? (No idea if it´s good just what´s available from ebay soon :D).
Is there newer revisions out with better memory controller so I should buy as new as possible? Has OCZ 3700 EB Platinum memory.

thats not bad, i guess you get some occasional exceptions to the rule.
I just started tinkering w mine; still using stock voltage, etc. Just set my memory to 166 and upped HT to 230; can't go any higher with my kingston valueram so I end up with a 300Mhz overclock; not bad but not 2.7Ghz. Screenshot attached.
Last Monday I bought a 4200+, yesterday I started all the tests...these are preliminary results:
http://img279.imageshack.us/img279/3...5x103at.th.jpg
DFI LP NF4 Ultra-D (704-2 BTA)
A64 X2 4200+ LDBHE 0537 @ 1.35 * 110%
TR XP120 + Delta 120mm @ 7V
PQI Turbo 3200 (TCCD)
Got this screen after 30 minutes of Dual Prime, but I stopped it after 5 hours...
The point is, that I cannot get anything stable over 2.6GHz. It boots perfectly on Windows...but SP2004 fails after X minutes, always random.
Probably due to heat
Try lowering your Vcore and maybe try burning in :)
If I lower VCore to 1.40, 1.35...prime fails after 30 minutes or less. I guess it can be a combo of heat & need for vcore :P
...
well i got it prime95 stable at 2.7 with a vcore of 1.56. 2.75 is workable but not prime stable even with a 1.6 vcore. and 2.8 wont even boot to windows.
i havent touched mem settings since i'm even more clueless about that. any advice?

according to my research .. some say that low wattage is better for overclock .. how to differentiate da 2 types of 4400 which have 89 and 110 wattage? i'm curious on it's overclockin ability
one has 128*2 L1 Cache and the other has only 128 L1 Cache:
4400+ 89W:

Thermal Power: 89W
L1 Cache: 128KB
4400+ 110W:

Ok installing windows , booting up no problems... then i start to overclock it .. i got some question..
1. How come my voltage wont go above 1.45 unless overvoltage is on?
2. How come my temperature is so high.. right now i have it clock at 2.5 at 1.44V .. it 40IDE ... 45 full load.. isnt watercooling suppose tolower temp really good? btw my cpu is a naked 3800 x2
3. How come my system wont boot up with overvoltage on.... meaning it just a black screen everytime i save in bios and restart pc...? The vdmi is at 1.45V and overvoltage is on giving me total of 1.6V clock at 2.8ghz.... Everytime i want to restart i must shut down pc.. then turn it bak on to restart... same goes in saving in bios..
If i have it on like 1.45V w/o overvolt and clock at 2.5 it restart and reboot fine.. please help T_T

All_Star, you have to uncheck the "no affinity" boxes, that way each instance applies to the specified core and tests the cores equally. Very nice preliminary results however.
I know . . . I will run prime again tonight I think . . . :cool:Quote:

It can push to 2.8 but CPU 0 is a bit weaker, and it'll fail prime a lot sooner. I'm thinking of popping the lid once I find a better mounting solution, or just maybe doing CPU Burn.
2.9 is bootable, but it fails Prime instantly.. hrm..
2.8 is not stable even with 1.60 vCore, and not gonna push any higher than that with air cooling. ;|
