Has anybody tried using the Zalman VF1000 on their G8 GPUs?:confused: Seems to occupy only about 2 PCI slots.

I did an upgrade today.

Upgraded my CPU from

Pentuim D 3.4 @ 800 FSB
to
CORE2 E6750 @ 1333 FSB

and

BFG 8800 GTS OC2 640 DDR3

I doubled my Futuremark Score and with no OC posted a 10,023

I'm wrong, I didn't cut the heatpipe. I just shortened the base of the cooler :) otherwise it was too long. the heatpipe is still there :p

@2.5ghz stock voltage, 65 under load running orthos. gaming i am getting 50c (with 80mm fan under cooler blowing upwards)

without 80mm fan, 67-70c load, 55c gaming

I just did a massive upgrade to my main rig, the pictures are above.

1333 E6750 and a 8800GTS 640. The Video Look Liquid under Futurmark Loads.

I'll put some shots together, but it really looks like nothing visually until you flip the switch and watch it perform.

Meh the only thing I dont like about their RAM coolers is it limits you to 2GB, and who wants to use 2GB (Unless of course you want to use 2x2GB modules.)

You are going to Kill that NB and SB.

The Heat Pipes will not remove any heat at all being in a BTX Board.

You should seriously look into some after market coolers. (I love the ones in the link)

Basically, This board is known for running hot as it is, so you are making things much worse by inverting it.

Brian - thanks for the concern. I've read about the issue you pointed out, but have to admit I'm not too worried. This is actually my "back-up" computer, and I just moved the current components into it while I'm waiting for my new case to arrive. So, I don't think I'm going to kill it with a bit of web browsing and Excel.

Can you recommend a better motherboard for this case when I upgrade it permanently? It really is a great little case.

You have a very nice MoBo for your Backup RIG.

Basically, the BTX is an interesting design of case, when selecting a MOBO for it just stay away from any North / SOuth combo that use passive cooling in the form of heat pipes.

Active cooling is perhaps a good idea.

I'll look into it.

that's actually not a BTX it's an inverted ATX with BTX the CPU should be right behind the front bezel using the intake fan as a CPU fan

As far as i know the heatpipes arent influenced in their cooling if the mainboard is upside down.Someone in the spcr3v13w forums also claims that nasa uses heatpipes and in space there is no gravity,thus a motherboard with heatpipes does not need to stand with the cpu up for better cooling.

Yes, but those heatpipe have leading channels, their inner wall is specially prepared.

I take it your PSU is acting as your CPU fan as well? How are your temps with it like that?

Brian, get 2 low profile enzotech forged copper nb/sb coolers, mount those, and switch that BT around so the fins are facing the 60mm fans like SaII said, that would be your best bet, i know your probably gona be hitting the stock NB cooler with the heatpipes.

It's a Thermaltake Lan Box Lite.

The CPU Cooler is a modified Tsunami by Thermaltake, (Basically bent it lower and took the fan off)

The Cooler will not fit in the case as it's a rectangle from the top, So it will not be able to fit inside if it was turned 90 Deg to aid the 60mm fans to pull out.

Basically, as it is now it does not fight the PSU fans so it's fine. As I said the Load temps are solid and low.

I believe my friend is happy with the NB and SB Cooler but I also think that if some OC is to be done Extreme spirit or some basic Zalman Blue Cubes should;d be used.

It's a kind of inverted ATX. BTX is different, the motherboard and other things.
I've read something about the heatpipes...but temps are fine, at least its what my finger tells me hahah :D

My renewed oldskool steel-based Chieftec DG case:

Inside:
E6700 L628A
eVGA 680i LT SLI @ full SLI
4x512MB GoodRAM Pro 800C5
Sapphire Radeon X1950XT - downvolted & overclocked, RAM timings tightened
Cooling -> CPU: Scythe Infinity/Mugen, NB: Thermalright HR-05, GPU: Thermaltake Volcano 12+
LC-Power LC6550 v2.0 (<- bang for a buck 35€ PSU ;) handles C2D @ 4.6GHz on SS with OC'ed VGA card with no problems, just runs hot :) wouldn't hook it up with SLI card though :D)
