Any buddy?
I flashed it to 1602 again, just to be sure and followed those other steps. At least now it remembers the settings again. Right now I'm running on 3.2 GHz (8*400), reasonably stable.
I say reasonably because I still have some problems when I stress is, or so it seems. I have most voltages set to auto, also the gtl's. I'm running Vista x64 and have VT switched on in the bios because I want to be able to run VMWare with 64 bit hosts.
On those hosts I run F@H, but no matter at what clockspeeds my processor is (even default), it will hang after a little while if I do that. I also tried it with SoB in VMWare, but again, same problems occur. A little while ago I ran DPAD straight in windows (even overclocked), and that went fine for weeks. But when I try F@H in windows (SMP client), it will hang as well (haven't tried SoB yet in windows). Idle it's perfectly ok, when I watch movies, it's ok, when I play games, it's ok...
Does anybody have some numbers what all the voltages should be to run a 45nm quadcore @ 2,67 GHz, stress-stable?
57 pages long and I have figured out this board sucks, here is the specs
E8400 E0 Stepping max is 3.6ghz with 1.45 volts on this board--Runs 4.3ghz with 1.4 on a ip35 pro under water
2x1gb ddr2 1000 crucial
300gb drive
bfg 800
Using the 1802 bios tried almost every voltage and config listed in this thread with no avail, still nothing past 3.6ghz on this board is stable.
Yeah have the same problem with 1702
have you tried
1733 fsb linked and sync
cpu multip. : *9
vcore:1.39(mine is 1.40)
pll:1.60
vtt:1.40
mem:2.1(mine is 2.20)
sb:1.60
nb:1.42 (1.48)
ht:1.20
this one seemed to be the BEST STABLE one for me, it gave the rounding error after 2 hours in prime95 lol
i wonder if this one will work work for you.. 'cause each striker seems to give different reactions.. just like women
janjan yes I have tried those settings still the same thing, anything above 1600fsb and it goes very unstable.
If I were to take the north bridge, southbridge and mosfets off and reaply some better thermal compound would it reduce my temps alot more. If so Is it better to invest in some arctic cooling mx-2 compund that i have lying around or buying thermal pads?
I doubt it will help much to make them cooler. I remember when I still had 'em on (with the original pads in between and all), I measured the surface temperature of the northbridge heatsink, which was about 10 deg. Celcius cooler than the internal sensor of the chip, when monitored in the bios.
On an unrelated other note:
I flashed to 1802 bios yesterday evening (without any problems whatsoever) and have been able to run F@H on all 4 cores since then (SMP), which is over 18 hours ago (when I started F@H). Seems this bios finally makes the board able to run new (45 nm) quadcores stable. \o/
Cheers bubbles for the comment. The heat sink can stay on like it is for now then I suppose. I think I'll put that money towards an antec spot cooler and put it directly facing the N/B
It appears to me ******* has not changed his thermal paste, because he doubts it would make much difference. I would suggest you are better off listening to people who have changed theirs out and can tell you what the difference is.
If you read back, you would see that it is highly recommended to replace the thermal compounds on the heatsinks.
The stuff Asus used and uses is obviously cheap and is overall poor quality. It is a gray paste, which hardens like J&B Weld, but becomes brittle.
They partially remedied this by, at some point in time, a second thin white thermal paste, which does not harden, but still offers questionable heat transfer.
A combination of the two improves heat transfer over the original, but is still crap.
You can ensure alignment of the pads on the mosfets too. No need to replace the pads.
Replacement of the thermal paste with a high quality compound WILL make a big difference of at least ~10 C, and up to ~40 C on the internal chips temp, depending on the quality and type(s) of the paste Asus had put on.
Yes, that's exactly what I saw on my second board. First one only had the dark gray paste. Haven't opened my third board box yet, but might check it out tomorrow.
With good reason. The outside of the heatsink was just marginaly lower than the internal readout, giving me a sign that the heatsinks were attached properly and the thermal pads were doing what they were designed to do: transfer that heat to the heatsink. If there was a big difference in temperature, this might have been caused by bad thermal pads/grease. My temperatures were about 75/65 C (internal bios readout / own external measurement). Using another thermal grease might have changed that with probably just a few degrees, and thus not worth the effort. The bigger problem was that I couldn't get a decent airflow on the chipset to get rid of that heat. Instead I just bought watercooling for everything which did help a lot.
hello again,
yesterday my computer did not start:mad:, everything in the case gets the electricity and works but it cant pass the "CPU INIT" part shown in the lcd poster. it is just frozen in that part , ı cannot even restart or shutdown.
i think it is the psu causing me the problem (OCZ GameXStream 600W SLI Ready).2 * 8800 gt oc, 6 * 12cm fan, 1 * 4cm fan, 1 harddrive, 1 cdromdrive were connected to the psu. and e8400 was oveclocked to 3.9 ghz.
what do you thınk?? is it the psu overloaded and broken, or something with the cpu or mobo??
mine did that and after I spent an hour troubleshooting it, turned out the board was dead. send it in and got an rma replacement, have since put mine in the closet and starting using my abit IP35 PRO again, so that my e8400 would be able to run over 4ghz again.
before the day ı had thıs problem, the computer booted and started normally but ıt was frozen up and deadlocked in windows after the start up.ı restarted ıt got ınto the bıos to check the temps, ıt was also deadlocked in bios.again restarted, it was healthy also played pes2009 with my brother until midnight:rofl:.after that went to sleep and woked up 4 hours later, i had this fckng "cpu ınt" post and dıdnt hear the "beep" sound.then nothing changed thıs sıtuatıon.ı am gonna try ıt wıth a new psu ıf the board ıs dead ıdont thınk they'll rma ıt ı put off the heatsinks once.

Alrighty guys. I'll give it a bash on getting the old tim off and reapplying some new stuff to the heatsinks. However You kind alost me on the tim I should use lolz. What tim is best, Ceramique or should I stick arctic cooling mx2 on that I use for my cpu? Or is this totally off and I should be looking elsewhere?
Alrighty thats cool, and thats the same for the mosfets too I presume. Sorry If I sound pretty idiotical. I just want to get everything ready before I take it apart and not realise I need something else to buy leaving me in limbo without a comp. I've never had to redo tim on motherboards before until this board.
Thanks again.
can someone give me a setting in bios on how to overclock E8400 to striker2formula? thanks
Hi boys! I have small problem - i overclock Q9550 E0 to 4GHz near such settings.

i had the same problem but i had a QX6800 i could get to 3.8 stable but trying to hit 4 it would become unstable. i wasnt able to fix this problem. how are you temps during load? have you tryed moving the cpu glt anymore then just 30+ i know i had a diff cpu but i had mine at i think 40+ is the next step up (i dont have my s2f anymore) maybe moving your multi to 9? what type of cooling are u using?

how can you do that. SB and NB dont have protection like the cpus chip u see to support the water cooling
if i knew better about nvidia chipset i would have gotten asus rampage formula :(
There's plenty of options for WC the NB and SB/NS200
Here's a link to one of them

If you looked back through this thread, you would see plenty of pictures of WC NB/SB/NS200s
LOL water cool the sb and nb tis just a waist of cash slap a fan on the nb job done :)
OK i have this board it's an upgrade from my striker that i rma'd. i geuss i can call it an upgrade however my ram from my old striker will not even post.
Thats why i am here :) i have 4 gigs of crucial ballistix tracer(4x1).
My system is a e6600,8800 gts and the x-fi card.
I have tried to set the time in the bios on this cheap ram then reset and swap the sticks however thats a no go, my bios is fully updated.
once i install any of the sticks and try to boot i get codeini on the lcd poster, but the lights on the ram are flashing if that counts for anything ha
any help would be nice, and last but not least will the OCZ Flex EX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) work on this board?
i am watercooled as well.
pretty sleek design, the cooler. But yeah one cooler alone for just nb is whooping expensive.
Anyway asus granted my wish :) they agreed to trade my asus striker II formula with asus rampage formula, the one with intel chipset instead. So im happy
Hi guys :)
You know maybe where there are points to the measurement voltage CPU on S2F? I want to check what be real vcote on CPU :)
I need help getting my q6600 stable at 3.0ghz. Anybody have any settings for me to try out? I have it somewhat stable but still get a bsod every once in a while. Here is what I changed to get it to boot into 3.0ghz. This is all I messed around with. I figured with it being such a mild overclock I didn't have to do too much but maybe I am missing something? Help me please. I also did my memory timings of course which is on the qvl sheet for compatible ram.

hi, I updated my s2f bios to 1802, and I want to have at least 3.5 to 3.6ghz in air cooling in my e8400, my question is do I need to disable my AIsuite so I can preform a stable OC for 3.5/3.6ghz ?
also could you give me a guid on what part should I setup in my bios setting in the overclock section?? I dont know which setting do I need for me to be able to OC my CPU??
thanks :)
got a question guys, where is northbridge located on this motherboard. is it between the pci slot and cpu
and southbridge is the one that got 2 chipset right?
any suggestion to buy a heatsink for the chipset that is right under my graphic card
I know there are alot of pages for this thread but if ya look you'd find the answer.
here is the Aqua Computer block: http://shop.aquacomputer.de/product_...oducts_id=2028
and the EK block:
http://ekwaterblocks.com/shop/produc...roducts_id=266
i have seen those but costs quite a bit, would like to consider some air cooling, i have found heatsinks for mosfet, northbridge, southbridge and onlymissing how to find a heatsinks for the annoying sli chipset since it only got one mounting holes
i would like the have the setup as molotov
but how
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...k/100_3814.jpg
since we all know striker formula board only got one mounting hole at the sli chipset
i got a reply from asus with bad news :(
Dear Valued ASUS Customer!
Removing the stock cooler voids the warranty.

ASUS TMSS Support
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&pictureid=144
very impressive. CAn i somehow buy a same cooler solution from you please. I cant rma it since in nordic asus warranty i already voided my warranty by removing my stock cooler. even if i dont tell them that they notice with the new thermal compound
i do not have tool to customized :(
can i like send you the backplate of the sb and have you customize it for me. Ill pay u for the work pleae
No need to send it to me. Heat it up, pry it apart, clean it up. The heatsinks are for a videocard and stick on. The fan is from ThermalTake.
Just use the plate and use it between the chips and what you already have? It will conduct the heat well enough. Add the heatsinks (any stick on type) for added protection.
I've RMA'd with a replaced stock cooler. They never said a thing.
well the warranty policy said otherwise. only authorized asus personnel can remove the heatsink
Anyway im wondering i want to get this heatsink Xigmatek Porter for northbridge and wondering if tha twill fit with my computer

question guys, do I need to fix my FSB to get a stable 3.6ghz
I followed this setting http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/3743/asiibiosms1.jpg (pics from asp6000)
the problem is my OS freeze and sometimes it didnt continue to but to winxp, can someone help me on the setting. I'm E8400. thanks
Most people get better results by manually setting the BIOS.

running @ 4.6 Ghz (400 x 11.5): 1.61875V benchmark stable..
WOW being able to achieve 4.6 on a quad is a pretty big achievement there and I'd be happy with that full stop. I wish my quaddie would do that. Ive ran my quad at 4.2 on air with 1.48v and refuse to go any higher, props to you for going further on this voltage crazy motherboard.
heya thnx..
but gatecrasher..which quad is urs?
i am trying to increase my cpu frequency coz i wanna see whether it will enable higher scores for mi..
i am definitely not using them for 24/7
4.6 @ 1.61875v gives out too much heat..
4.4ghz is a more probable scenario..
can anyone give any tips on 4.8ghz..
Hey guys I just picked one of these boards up for $65 and i wanted to know what i should be twekaing to get my E6600 to 3.2Ghz. I didnt need any higher ATM.
I plan on taking bios to latest so if i could could some voltage figures that would be great.
My spec is in my sig.
i know i need my FSB @ 400 x8 to get 3.2Ghz but would it be stable on the NB? i havent installed it yet still waiting on delivery. Im currently on a GA-965P-DS4.
After reading through a fair bit of this thread it seems that the NB is super hot.
So is their any custom cooling solution to hep that other than a 80mm fan?
Hello all. I just got two of these motherboards as replacements for my now dead p5N32-E SLI Plus do to a watercooling mishap.
I read all of the pages of this thread with great interest, but is the "favorite" BIOS right now 1801? I will be using an old school Q6700 CPU and 8800GTXs sli.
I know there are more current versions, but do not want to flash those if not optimal or bugged.
Thanks.

So i got me a gtx 295. installed it and installed the drivers and shortly after pc crashed. then on reboot it wouldnt make it to windows it would get a bootmgr is missing. i reserched on my laptop and there seems to be no idea what can or does cause this. others have had it in the past but not related to this card or motherboard or anything of the sort. so odd thing is apon having to reinstall windows to make the issue go away. the issue came back once i installed the card again. i tried many differerent drivers from nvidia. being that not many support the card. of a few. only the 181.20 drivers dont cause the issue. i tried 181.22 & 182.05 and both still give me issues. i havent tried 182.06 and 182.08 cause i am tired of reinstalling my OS.
Now for the strange part. even the driver that works gives me problems. a problem i solved. When running windows vista basic desktop them i have odd behavior when i open some programs. screen gets all messed up. issue would not go away untill i turned on windows aero. for some reason it doesnt act up when asked to do more work. sounds dumb but it's true.
What i need to know is what is going on. The card performs like a monster on crack. it's so fast i just cant believe it. and the card stays cool. so it's not anything easy. i might have a bad card but i just dont know.
I should point out when i remove the nvidia drivers and windows is supplying the drivers i get no problems of any kind. so it has to be in my mind a driver issue.
why does it say that the 2001 bios is older than 1901 ?
http://bildr.no/thumb/363494.jpeg
I have problem with this board.
I used a while on this E7300 cpu and now sold to friend and he put Q9550 cpu
and he says its alltime freezing or blue screen.
but my E7300 cpu works stable on this.
bios 1802 and i will update to now 2001 latest.
Can someone say something why it dont like Q9550 cpu?
Hmm.. not sure, The0men.. I'm running an OC'd Q9550. I do get lockups in 3D games every once in a while, but never blue screen. There are others in this thread that are running that CPU too.
Finally got the hang of my s2f paired with an e6750. Don't think I have one of the lucky boards that would reach 475FSB, seems like 460 is the max I was able to push but concerning stability I decided to stay put at 450 despite the sub par memory performance.
Anyhoo...CPUv at 1.472, NB at 1.5(working on bringing this down next), SB 1.6, VTT 1.39, etc.

Hi, I have a Q6600 G0 lapped on Swiftech GTZ @ 3.825Ghz with 1.52v, but like most people I want more. Which would be the better option a Q9650 E0 (AUD$430) or a
QX9650 C0 (AUD$580-$1000)? The Q9650 would be cheaper and cooler but will the NB be able to do 450MHz. NB is currently 425MHz with 1.56volts. 4GHz is the target.
Was planning on scoring the aquacomputer block as well.. but then Ive been hearing significant drops in pressure with the block so I just opted for an EK NB and SB.. only problem with this is you have to have a single slot card, or use the other PCI-Ex slot.

E6850 running @ 3.96ghz for 2 years.. now degraded to 3.9ghz. Also sold my other GTX260 to pay some bills lol.
Thanks Thakkerson for the tip...

I think the southbridge allow to have 2 double slot graphic cards. And they have a beautiful CPU WB :

I'ld appreciate some help to get my rig (QX9650) stable at 4.3 Ghz or more when possible.
My settings are:
Bios 2201
Vcore: 1.57250 in bios (1.47 cpu.-z)
pll: 1.52
vtt: 1.28
mem: 2.10
nb: 1.50
sb: 1.60
ht: 1.20
bridge: 1.20
the other settings like fsb+mem and timing are all on auto. Multiplier is 13.
temperature are in idle: 39, 46, 43, 40 (core temp) system is complete watercooled.
I can boot in windows and the system seem to be stable but games like ghost recon crash after some minutes or the network connenction got lost and I've to disable and enable the network adapter to reconnect.
What should I do? raise the vcore a notch more or what?
thanks
I think this thread is dead.

but now I´m on my striker II formula an E8400 to do my needs
all watercooled @4.7 idle 30 Cº full 48 Cº ambient 26 Cº
great oc you have. my qx9650 is at @4 idle 38 C° and 58 C° at full with ambient at 26 C° also watercooled.
Anyone run into a problem where when you shut down or restart, the computer goes through the normal shutdown/restart sequence, but right when it should powerdown/reset it just stays there.. powered on, but unresponsive? I always have to press and hold the power button to force it off... even on simple reboots. I updated the BIOS a half year ago, yet it just started happening recently. I wonder if it's related to the PSU or the freaky UPS.
I need settings for my Q9550 Striker II Formula.
I run on "CPU LEVEL UP" crazy settings, which gives me 3.49Ghz
I would like to take it further, any surgestions?
I tried some manual settings, but seems like i get it wrong.
Thanks.
Hi guys, does anyone else have this board?
My Asus Striker II Formula is not working. LCD poster display shows "code init".
NF200 chip is cold, it not warming. I tried reflow with hot air gun, but it didn't help.
What to do next? Reflow north bridge?
