All my voltages were behaving nicely and I had no problems until now... hopefully I can negotiate a cross ship with DFI :\
EDIT: just got around to checking the box, my board was from Taiwan....
Hi. This might be a dumb question, but when people are referring to using 1.4-1.5v,is this referring to the cpu vtt? My ctt is at 1.222 right now, and I am having issues getting to 3.8 with my g0 q6600(I'm at 3.4 stable now),and I'm thinking it might be the cpu vtt. However,I'm not sure what a good limit is, I don't want to fry my 6600.
you can run the vtt safely up to about 1.65-1.7, when using x9 multi for 3.905 i used 1.62x volts on my vtt
ive got 1.5v cpu and 1.50000v vtt on my 6600
i know there is some around..but thread got long. Can someone please post good overall bios settings for Q6600@3600+ ? Is this a good goal:
400x9 (DIV4:5!!) 8,000MB/s bandwidth (mem@500) ??
thanks
Can anyone do a screenshot of the transpiper "in action"? Also does it really help a lotor is it just 2-3 degrees difference?
setfsb is CY28551LFXC :)
Waiting for ddr3 edition :D
guys, i need help quick before i save my current bios settings:
I saw the settings by PRAZ and by some other guys and i am using them.
But on the "Clock Settings Fine Delay Page" i cant select the values they have in their bios templates
Eg.
Clock Setting Fine Delay Page
Ch1 Clock Crossing Setting................More Aggressive
DIMM 1 Clock fine delay...................Current 89ps
For Dimm 1 Clock Fine Delay i cant set it that low, and i also have no way to set it to 89 !!
They're at default and tehre is a value like 1400 (WAY over the 89 !!)
btw. i have 2x2 Gigs OCZ Plats 2 XTC which should be about with the 2x2GB Skill 4GBPQ, maybe a bit better.
The XTC have the same chips as the ReaperX btw. Help !
Georg
(btw. latest bios from dfi.tw)
Hey guys, thanks the hard work and all for the great information in this thread.
Just pulled the trigger on this board, e8400, and 2G Ballistix 8500($25 rebate =$68).
Its my first Intel build in 4yrs, so if anyone has other suggestions, please let me know. Should be here early next week. Really looking forward to it.
Phil
the fine delay changes with every kit of memory so u dont want to set those if u dont know what u are doing (like me, ive got the cpu side but the ram past the 1st page no clue)
and the latest bios gave me problems and i think it has to do with the TW Vs china board i have a TW and it came with a bios labeled "(X38ADB28) EVALUATION ROM - NOT FOR SALE", and "X38AD111" was giving me problems, what version dose the china come with, it may just be 2 bioses
the first thing i did was to flash the latest X38Ad111 bios (china board). No problems here.
Guys!!
Confusion.
I used the settings by PRAZ with
--> 8x450
DRAM Spd 333/800
So...8x450=3600
WTH does memtest as well as everest say i am running at 4GHZ????
Very nice, went to motherboardpro's site to check the status and they lower the price of the board $20 to $249.
thanks praz! got a later one now.
Edit: Got the board and evrything running...HD i will get tomorrow (BUMMER)...but i am testing on bootable CDs w/ everest and memtest etc. So far so so good. More testing tomorrow once i install Vista64 and can do some OCCT runs. I know things might look different under 64bit. Btw. those new OCZ 2x2GB sticks are the same as ReaperX..maybe someone has optimized settings for those? What bandwidth should i expect to see in everest?
Any1 who got this board and also owned the P35 T2R? If so Which 1 is better?
anyone settings for 2x2GB ReaperX...like 8x450 333:800?
CPU seems to make 3600, but still having problems getting those sticks at 540.
Thanks!
ok im at the stage of installing windows... I want to know what exactly is the relationship between vcore and vtt , because just now when i tried to boot into windows , it bsod'ed , and 3 more bsods later i got the message about ntdetect not found and now im reinstalling windows... Then again it could have been because im running at 410 fsb with the sb at stock voltage or something
Also , vdroop control off = bad? And what are the comfy voltages that you guys are on...1.64v on the sb, 1.6v on the nb , 1.5v vcore... And should vtt be higher or lower than vcore again?
cant you rma it from the place you bought it?
hrrmm, looks like its benchmarks and stress tests from bootable floppies and cds for me, one of my hard disks has tripped its smart... The only one i know of is memtest, what others can you guys tell me to use?
And oh yeah, do you also know if which test in memtest correlates with which setting in the bios? Like probably stuff in the dram timings...Or if indeed it is possible to correlate anything at all, cuz it would just be sweeeet when you know what to change, or at the very least narrow it down...
Dropped in a E8400 yesterday and started tweaking and went to bed.
When i wanted to boot here up today it wouldn't boot and will only display
Post Code 88 ...... have reset the bios for a lot of times but won't solve anything.
What can i do about this guys ? :)
Hey guys, Sorry for my ignorance on not reading the hole thread. But I just got my DFI LanParty LT X38 and a QX9650 aswell as 8GB of DDR2 1000 G.skill.
I cant seem to up the FSB even by one Mhz. If I do my system goes into a restart cycle and I have to reset the CMOS to get it back. Any Ideas?
Any tips? Whats the best way I should go about overclocking this CPU?
Thanks for any help.
my e8500 comes tomorrow so hopefully i'll be getting the 4.5 ghz i want :D
if i had your board i'd keep it unless you want crossfire
i had a gigabyte p35c witch maxed out @ 575 fsb stable but voltage options suked
i maxed out 555fsb on this 1
ram clocking is better uses less volts
if i had a dfi-p35 i wouldnt get the x38 when i got the x38 it was 25$ more in my case so i got it lol
i love the board it is one of the best boards i've owned:)
well its not that much more now they lowered the price on the x38 mobo
After installing the 8400 last night really didn't have time to see what it would do. Using the 01/09 BIOS, set NB to 1.4V and VCORE 1.3275V. All other voltages at stock settings. 450x9 is Orthos stable. Hopefully can get into it more this weekend unless I switch over to the P35 board.
333/1000 is a finicky divider on this board. Make sure you have the latest bios that makes it a bit better. Also try running 1:1 and see if that helps.
4 Sticks @ 1200? 4x2gb? Hmmm. I dont think these g.skill are able to do that kind of mhz, especially with 8gb.
Anyway, I think the best bet for 8gb is to set the divider to 1:1, then the NB doesn't need crazy volts and the performance in real word (outside of benchmarks) is not all that different.
Here I am running 8gb. My volts are low. My q6600 is @ 3.8ghz and my memory is at 844mhz. 100% prime stable. Click for larger pic
Of course with his qx9650 he should be able to do it with less vcore.

Your PWM temps seem kinda high, this is mine, uptime is in the task manager, 76 hours since a reboot crunching at the settings seen, ambient is ~70F, so 100% cpu load on all 4 cores, Vcore is set to 1.4875 in bios but always shows as 1.5, DMM show 1.49, so stick with that as my true reading. Boinc WCG does not stress quite as much as Prime, but it is pretty damn close.
I will have a transpiper in my hands on Monday, so will give it a burn in and see how it does compared to the stock cooling which I am using now on the PWM. From what I have been told, above ~45 is danger zone on these, so I am just skirting the limit. (all in red due to fan settings I have in the bios)

What is C1 on the mobo? I dont get an image on monitor. I havent connected floppy power conectors onto mobo near gfx slots, do I have to?
It's 75f in here right now. My pwm is kinda high, its been that way since I water cooled my rig. I think my board bowed a tad. Need a backplate I guess. Also, less airflow in the case without a cpu fan blowing on it. 4sticks of 2gb mem and an 8800gts heating up the inside of the case. Under normal tasks it stays around 40deg. My chipset is nice and low though. :D
As for my CPU I set the offset too high, my coretemps in everest are a bit more accurate.
looking at the smartguardian screens you posted, does 'fsb vtt' refer to the cpu vtt or the nb vtt? And yeah, does vtt count for getting high fsb or high cpu speed?
cpu vtt = fsb vtt. just labeled differently.
vcore is what helps get higher cpu clocks, while fsb vtt, and nb core helps with higher fsb. mostly people who are running really high memory speeds need to increase the voltages more.
I find that for the most part, people on these forums are using way too high NB and FSB voltage for what they are achieving. thats imho though.
When I try to disable PPM (EIST) Mode Windows will always crash the second it starts up.
Any ideas to fix it so I can turn EIST off?
I hear ya about the NB, been contemplating adding to my loop, as I have 2 mcw 30's sitting around collecting dust, but been to lazy to do anything about it. Also was thinking about mounting my apogee to it, as it would fit, but also too lazy. I have 0.2 more V on mine for my ram @ 1113, needed it to get quad 32M stable.
I am going to pick up a thermaright HR for the NB and see how it works compared to the enzo I have on it now. First things first though, gotta play with the transpiper on Monday :)
i got my e8500 today so ill let you guys know how i get on with it
yes please, im been waiting for results with this board and that cpu
PWM temp's got down from 59max to 56max after 5 day's burnin, with the MX2 it looks like it's working great now will mount 60x60x15mm fan on the heatsink and I think it will stay bellow 50c @ all times. I'll report again about it when I got my mobo out again :)
balls!!!
i just tried 9*500 on my e8500 and the machine spins the fans for a few secs then goes off :( going to try clearing the cmos before i cry
I got my new board a few days ago and it's working pretty well.

I cant seem to get 475 or more to post, not sure what the issue is I have tried upping nb vtt ram and vcore but no matter what i do it wont boot at 475. I even tried lowering the multi on my chip and no go. Any ideas?
boooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! no more testing for me... my psu just blew up :|
every over clock above stock wether it be 500*9 or 450 * 9.5 with 1.450000 on vtt, 1.5 on chipset, 1.45 on cpu caused the machine to just switch off after 1 second.
just tried another overclock and *spark* my psu blew up -no stand by light on the back of the psu or board. the psu smells of burning :( since i have no other psu to test with then im not sure if my components are broke
the other worrying thing is that i got that psu from scan about a year ago but when i bought my e8500 from them yesterday i had to re-create my account because my details "somehow were deleted"
wow sorry to hear that sounds like the psu was def holding you back then
Most likely the PSU holding you back as the board seems to like these processors. Not really a high clock but this was done from a CMOS clear with completely default settings. Haven't really had time to do much else yet.

Can anybody tell me in short how to work with Clock Fine Delay settings?
And what does "- DIMM 1 Clock fine delay: 7 (raised from Current 2)" in practice mean?
Is there any differences between running two modules of memory in slots 1+3 VS 2+4?
Sorry about it Origin, was this the Etasis 850W server grade PSU in your sig?
Put a E8500 in my board a few days ago but somehow i cannot get this thing working in the x38 like a q6600.
FSB will not boot higher than 518
Memory is absolutely not stable at almost every speed/divider ....
The board is acting like a 1st class ........ with the e8500 and is in need of a bios that fixes this ASAP !
I have got the exact same problem with my board and the e8500 but it will only do this with the 11-1 bios it works fine with the 1st release bios (my favorit).
Right got some mates ream in there, booted bios changed to 2.27V and put in only 1 stick of my OCZ PC8000 and still comes with with C1 and wont boot.grrr. Do i need to up northbridge?
Also my board wont turn on from case button(yes I have connected the cables from case to mobo but doesnt work) anyone else had this trouble?
yeah it was :( i think ill go for a silverstone decathlon or a PCP&P.
It's weird, ive bought 2psu's from scan and they've both blown up shortly after the 1 year warranty :( (im not blaming scan btw). I think this etasis is just over the 1 year :(
i did. It's VID 1.1125V
i know :( i'm quite lost without my pc now -planned on doing alot of testing this weekend.
i bet it didnt short tho
Well now that you mention it .... i thought it smelled a bit funny in here :P
The 1 second boot problem is linked to the 11-1 bios thats for sure.
The board seems to be still responding well with low voltages and GTL settings disabled.
http://www.edgeofstability.com/image.../misc/4005.jpg
@Praz: nice chip John! is that for 24/7 clocks? what's your bios setting for that? :) so disabling the GTL at 4ghz is still ok?
What memory will boot in this board from the off? And which wont? (want to buy a set to get her going with)
My OCZ PC8000 Alpha wont
My geil, though rated 2.3V which I run it just below, boots at the 1.85 default of the board.
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820144213
WIth how many sticks? Just the 1
nope, both, can clear the cmos to my hearts content, and it boots right up
When ever I choose "most aggressive, aggressive, nominal" in Clock Setting Fine Delay, it doesn't boot at oc'd settings. It reverts back to default. It seems the "auto" setting works for me.
Ram at 44412(2.3vdimm)@9x440@1.5625vcore.
Yeah, that screenshot is 24/7 stable but it's got a lot more left in it. Trying to correlate VCORE, VTT and NB voltages. Manually setting GTL values will most likely allow for slightly lower voltages. I'll be getting to that later.
Have noticed one thing with these processors that's somewhat similar to the Q6600. Anyone that has had a 6600 knows only too well that settings that are stable running small and large FFTs will crash with Blend. What I've been seeing with this processor is settings that are stable when running small FFTs and Blend will crash using large FFTs. This may go back to GTL also. Too early to know for sure.
I'm starting to get worried now.... i'm taking my bits appart so i can take my machine to work after the psu explosion and i think my board might be dead. I can smell a slight burnt smell from the 8pin cpu connector :(
hopefully it's not the case BRO, how about warranty for the PSU? If it's psu fault then they spouse to cover it!
i may be just over the 1year :( ... cant tell either as scan randomly deleted my account for no reason and i destroyed the invoice ( ) as i thought the web site would keep all the info :(
there doesn't seem like there is any scorch marks on any of the pins of the 8pin connector (board side and psu side) so i hope ill be ok.
I've got a few psu's at work i can use (mostly from intel server chassis) and all the other bits (spare cpu / ram) im taking with me.
*IF* everything is ok then ill be ordering one of the corsair 750w jobbies
the psu manufacturers are supposed to cover it?
guys, some questions:
Running 4 threads w/ prime95, my Q6600 at 1.4V (bios) right now i idle at
~38C/core....and under load (Q6600@3400mhz right now) i get max. 68 C per core, with a temp difference about 5C or 6C for the cores. Eg. one core at 59, ather at 65.
But i read this offset is normal?
When i applied my TIM i did not apply a streak across the core, but just a small dab of AS5. But as long as the core temp differences are in the 5C or 6C range this is fine, right?
Also..are those temps ok?
(Using a TR ultra-120 extreme)
G.
(What irks me is that with most tests like OCCT i usually just get BSODs...either it runs allright, or i BSOD just out of Vista 64. What do the BSODs indicate? Higher Vcore? Higher VTT?)
This board is EVIL...i am very glad to be stable at 3400 now.....some dividers i cant boot AT ALL even with memory as low as 400 and CPU at the same speed as with other divider...but this board just doesnt like most dividers as it seems)
Still no need for GTL adjustment.

anyone know what an error code 8 is?
led2 - blank
led3 - 8
There are no single digit hex codes. Either scramble BIOS or hardware damage is usually the cause of a single digit code.
All i get is C1 on mine, so asked for RMA. Apparently mine if the 1st one to be RMA'ed to trend PC in germany. Thourght others had?
When my E8400 blew in my P35 it gave me garbled incomplete post codes but after 2 long 8 hour + CMOS clears it came back finally posting 88 until I changed the CPU & she booted first time.
Perhaps try a couple of long board fully stripped battery out & shorted CMOS clears before panicking.
CN :)
Hello everybody,
i am really interested on that mobo,
or an dfi p35, with one can stress better my 8400 at 600+ fsb?
I have an abit ip35 pro and i am stuck at 530 fsb, and also my memory
Transced AxeRam, does not operate more than 1160...
Has anyone tried transced ram on Dfi x38??
Im sure I will have to pay shipping back to Germany, still emailing DFI techincal back and forth
here's how ive been running mine 24/7 for a good week..
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/5...ablesv5.th.jpg
it by know means near it limits on fsb or memory but just nice & stable. im slowly bring down all the voltages atm, before i try sumthing else.
ive notaced for me @ those setting the higher vtt is needed to keep things nice & stable. ive not been mucking around with the GTL volt though. i can see the vtt is to low by my windows loading bar lol, if its to low it might take 6 to 8 passes before windows loads. if the vtt set right it takes just over 3 passes.
has anyone else noticed this?? or hav i been drinking to much :ROTF:
