I just removed the heatsink from the NB and found this.
Can it be problematic? :(

was there no thermal paste?
or are you unsure of the what the chipset looks like?
LOL, I am talking about the scratches from that chipset. :D
The TIM was there. :p:

Yep, I know that and I also know how to properly remove an HS, but that's how it came. :(
To save face, pop some paste on it, refit the HS & RESET CMOS. If your board is like the rest of them appear to be, you chould get a C1 error code. You can always try this & then RMA it's ass hoping some numpty @ "wherever" you bought it can`t get the board to boot again! Your only other option is to be honest with DFI about it & take your chances with them. I`d be trying the first option above tbh. It would offer a quicker result for you with a whole lot less hassle.Quote:

I guess I'll get my money back, but I wanted this board. :stick:
I have 4gb running in this board @stock settings with vista 32 and sofar it has been fine. after I get some Baseline test I will start overclocking.
Hi guys, I'm hoping someone might have some idea's to help out with a small problem. I've got my new system, first watercooled one all setup with a QX6700 and this mobo. I've managed to get up to about 370 FSB which from earlier posts seems about right for quad cores. Only problem I'm having at the moment is I can only run my CPU at 3.2ghz. I'm getting temps of around 60 at full load, thats with stock voltage and an 8800GTX and the northbrige in my loop as well.
It seems the moment I try to go above that, I get stability issues, I've had the cpu boot to windows running at 3.75ghz just using a x13 multi, but the moment I run Prime95 to stress test it, it falls over. Its to the point were even running at 3.3ghz is a problem, it seems the moment I stick anything other than stock voltage into it I get issues. It usually boot to windows fine, loads prime95, and it locks the system up after a few minutes of torture testing, unlike some of the earlier tests I did to tweak the memory and FSB, where the worker threads would report errors, this just freezes the system solid.
I was wondering if anyone else had these kind of problems with a kenty, I've lapped the IHS which dropped the temps down. I was wondering if it was just due to the 60 load temp as I'm running my radiator fans on my PA120.3 at only about 700rpm for a silent system. Strange thing is I can up the voltage fine if its running 3.2 or below. I'm currently running at 357x9, but even with stock settings and pumping 1.6 volts into the core it won't run with a 13x multi with any stability. Any help would be much appreciated!!
.....As dodgey as poor old Korbys NB core is. What an absolute bummer. I just find it hard to believe that DFI's Insepection Dept. could allow such an abomination to reach the Retail Shelves!! :eek:Quote:

Mine was bloody disgracefull with enough paste to stick the Titanic together again. Maybe they were applying sh1t-loads thinking it would help prevent the "crush" effect!? The springs they used are very very tense to say the least, but with the guage of wire DFI did use, you could always keep the HS springs & get them coiled for an Air Rifle upgrade! :D
Best of luck getting yours swapped out too.
You`re obviously doing something wrong, as freecableguy over at The Repository is getting 460 fsb from the Quads on this board.Quote:

This is freecableguy with a Quad Xeon @ 460fsb, you can find Tonys pages with little effort.
Quad Xeon @ 460fsb
Get to grips with your FSB I/O strengths, GTL REF voltage levels in line with VTT & NB Voltages. 1.59V @ 460fsb for the NB is STOCK!
Good luck. :)
Thanks for the reply Kin, I've tried all of Tony's defaults he recommended but sadly they couldn't help me get past the 370 FSB either, I've altered the GTL Ref voltages to 128, 128, 128, that helped me get to 360. I've not tried changing the FSB I/O strength as I've no clue what I'm doing there to be honest, they're at 10x the default at the moment.
I'm running stock voltages at the minute with 3.2ghz core, but its strange no matter how much extra juice I give the CPU it won't budge above 3.2 and remain stable. I guess I'll have to wait for FreeCableGuy's guide to how he got up to that massive FSB, should prove interesting.
from what I hear 140-160 is the gtl range for quads..
I have a couple of QX6700s that perform completely different on this board and we are still trying to figure out why. Try changing the GTL Ref to 176/176/176 or 178/178/178 and see if that helps.
Has anybody heard of Abit working on an RD600 board?
Great thanks I'll give those settings a try :thumbsup:Quote:

DFI Support Europe.
There was some TIM. I am talking about the cracked chip. When I removed the HS I was paying some attention: I put my finger on the center of the HS when I removed it so it didn't roll on it's sides.
And the board was bought from Taiwan. :)
Someone asked how the board behaves with all Ram Slots filled, i can say: Stable as it should be ->

peteAx..sweet cpu...god mine really sucks compared to yours..I assume bios is set to like 1.45-1.46v....best I get is 3.42:slapass:

They are async right now - not 1:1 as the CPU is @413 now. But as we all know 1:1 (sync) timings are tighther with the 22/12/06 Bios - and so far that is a reason to avoid sync mode, but no Probs when you set in bios the speed manually.Quote:

I have bought it but have not installed it yet.
OK, waiting for the result. Gotta find a way to get it in Romania. :D
Have one problem. When i turn off my computer itīs auto boot and i have to turn it off again with the power button. Anyone having the same problems ?
How do i fix it ?
Okay... I think my board is dead.
It wouldn't boot anymore and halts at error "25". Tried everything including clear CMOS, remove batt, unplug ATX and all... still no go.
Finally, after hitting "Insert" repeatedly, it would "beep" once and pass the "25" code until the BIOS appears in the monitor. Then, it would halt at error "7F" where the BIOS asks me to "Press F1 or Del".
I couldn't get past the "7F" code anymore.
FYI, I didn't flash BIOS and the board worked just great before I had this problem. The only thing I was doing prior to this was swapping out for a Swiftech MCW30 chipset waterblock, and the board worked fine after the MCW30.
Any idea what went wrong? I think I may have to request for a new BIOS chip from DFI.
Curious what voltages were you running on the mobo..not cpuQuote:

First ICFX3200 was DOA with a C1 error code. 2nd board worked fine for 3 days on air & the only adjustment to voltages was RAM to 2.0v. Board was boxed for 3 weeks whilst building a water cooled V2000B case. Board went in, Plumbed CPU, NB, 7950GX2 graphics, 8 hours purging l8r fire up with NO LED diagnotics. Board was dead.Quote:

I got this message when i boot my screen.. when i set my memory to 402.. I recover my system by a cmos reset and cold boot..
mm.. i think its a compatibility issue..
hope there is a new bios.. :)
and could there be more options for the configuring of raid harddisk using the promise controller.. we can only use 16k
mm.. I think DFI should look onto this problems.. I'm not into benching mostly.. but I want a stable machine..
and also the vdroop issue is worsening.. a member of the official forum of DFI fix his problem by reloading his bios again..
maybe i'll do this later.. :)
hope Oscar is looking at our problems.. :) I know this board have a capability.. :) so i'll wait.. :)
Raid performance on this board is less then stellar...the Promise controller is very very slow. I would stick with the ATI controller.Quote:

Well the RD600 sounded really badass before it was released, but with the problems being mentioned, it's probably not worth the effort, at least not for me since I'm not a hardcore overclocker.
Doesn't anybody ever learn about DFI and the crappy quality of their boards.
Their QA Dept is really poor, their Support is really poor, come people wake up and smell the coffee. Move on and buy a product from a GOOD company that has GOOD quality and support for thier products.

LOL OldGuy.....Funny thing is, the very first DFI board I ever had ROCKED for me too. Another 4 boards tried for a friend to no avail & identical Spec down to everything but the Lian Li case. It`s even funnier that after waiting 6 months for a motherboard that was fast developing into being a piece of Vapoware only days before it's release, That "Collective Smoke" we were all having shoved up our collective Asses has kinda blown away me trusting any other Chipset other than Intel for Intel CPU's. Hold up Bad Axe 2, I'll be right there..............
I can't do without RAID. Guess we'll see if there's gonna be any bios updates. I was afraid there wouldn't be.
Just on another note. Isnt it funny that we see Nvidia 680i based boards from nearly every mobo company except DFI. What with this and no bios updates, and the fact a little bird told me that DFI was going down the pan, im sure glad i didnt buy the RD600 and went for the Badaxe2.
I suggest everyone that owns a RD600 get onto the DFI forum and start a petition to get these problems sorted, because i dont see DFI doing anything about it any time soon.
Blah, Blah, Blah. If u hate DFI good. Thread's name is "RD600 first look and general questions". You look? OK. Questions? nothing. So go away far from this evil mobo and let dumbasses like ours use it.

I spend time reiceiving email for this thread and i might think its for interesting information. But half time is for people who comes to flame DFI and don't own themselves the board. I got the board, i used to have P5W DH and with this board my cpu pass 4GHz easily (422 FSB with P5W DH, 450 FSB easily with this borad and can ortho 500FSB without problems) , my ram pass 600MHz 4-4-3-4 (422 with P5W DH coz divider 4/5 doesn't work and 511 with 5-5-5-15). It's a great board and like Kunaak said rockstable. Personnally i don't need a new bios , this card is perfect for me .
DFI are a 2nd tier manufacturer, they get chips later than the likes of ASUS and lanparty boards take longer due to Oskar working his bios tweaks. Until an official announcement is made about DFI being in financial trouble then I wouldn't believe a word about them being in trouble - just like any other company.
I've got the board, waiting to get the last parts to my water cooling :)
Simple solution...disable email notifications :) I subscribe to lots of threads on lots of forums. Nothing more annoying (to me) than having to delete a ton of useless emails. I just set my user CP as the "favorite" link and see everything I need to see when I pop in to forums. I don't need to fire up my email to see what's going on in threads I'm subscribed to...Quote:

I'd have to say that I am very pleased with the RD600 thus far.
1. I have been able to clock over 400FSB (could not do with my 680i)
2 I can run my RAM at specified speed of 1067MHz & 5-4-5-9 2T timmings or 925 MHz & 4-4-4-8 1T timmings (could not do with my 680i). I had to clock my RAM down to 800MHz & 5-5-5-12 2T timmings on the 680i.
3. RAID WORKS!!!! This was never completely fixed while I had any 3 of my 680i boards.
So far this is what I have:
CPU Freq: 435MHz

Sorry about my info not showing.....I was entering my sig and making a post at the same time so my sig didn't attach.
I am using the Turniq Tower and HR-05 on the NB.
I've gotten as far as 450ish on the FSB but that took me one notch higher on the north bridge, think it is 1.51 or 1.53v. Since this is 24/7 I wanted to stay below 1.5v for now and play with the GTL REF's some more and see what that gets me.

your temps are great.. :) I'm guessing low ambient temps?? :DQuote:

I have both my Turniq and CPU lapped and I am using coollabs liquid metal sheets for TIM, so far so good.

Be sure to have your GTL REF's set before increasing VCore or Vcore VTT. ;)Quote:

Wich is the better chipset cooler the TR HR-05 or the Noctua NC-U6? Any speculations?

vs.

I have both...the Thermalright is larger, and thereby provides better cooling with less airflow. The Noctua has two pipe, sure, but they are smaller(whole unit is at least an inch shorter), and I'm pretty sure that the gas inside is different, as the thermalright unit seems to have a higher thermal capacity than the Noctua.
ALOT harder to mount the Thermalright units tho(I have both the SLi and the regular...SLi performs better)...very easy to chip a corner off of chipset if you are not careful.
Oh, and BTW, the Thermalright unit is contructed of the same materials as the Noctua, but is nickel plated. :fact:
