Well, I'm most likely sticking with netburst for a while since I really don't have the money to spend after this. My next upgrade is a PD950 and it's over for the next year. Stuck between this board and the 975XBX, and I could go either way. is there anything that would make this board preferred over the XBX?
Well if overclocking the XBX is annoying as it only lets you OC by %...
the AW9D is a good board for the 950 as you wont ever hit the FSB wall.
Why not get an e6300 though? it would be faster.
Not a world beater, but considering no aircon on, was pleased to see orthos still running this morning.

well, I can get my hands on a 950 ES for 70 dollars =). I guess that's good enough for school work and a little gaming on the side ;) . Hmm... I heard about that % FSB overclocking. thought my friend was joking since he used to own a 955X, but he wasn't. He said you get used to it though. *Shrugs* I guess now it comes down to price and where I could get my hands on em. I could get one for 230 at fries electronics, but it's far far away, or 215 for an XBX near my house.Quote:

cpu temps abit high.. 45c.. but ill get tuniq tower soon with ac5 paste..and ill get under 40 for sure..
1) 1.7 vmch is ~1.61 or less vmch @ the nb itself -- far from extreme as the board does ~2.0v bios and ~1.91 at the nb for me.
2) 1.6 cpu in bios is ~1.55v real, so really not much.
3) Your cpu might not do 3600 @ 1.55v real, and 45c idle @ 1.55v is HORRIBLE!
This isnt difficult:
MCW30 or MCX-159
Mount correctly with Ceramique
set 2.0 vmch bios
YAY, 430+ fsb prime stable easy!
@RLM , your voltages are very low and you have alot of potential left to unlock ;)
Just regards that comment. With my setup, Aircon is on, set to 27c, volts are 1.34 and my processor is sat at 37 idle under water cooling. Is that :banana::banana::banana:ehawk? Really limited for choice on watercooling parts here, but thinking it maybe time for a new setup.Quote:

I'm having a hard time understanding what your looking for here, because if its help its been given. I need at least 1.85mch to run prime stable around 410 to 415 fsb and 2.0 to run prime stable between 420 to 430. You don't really gain much over 1.85mch without active cooling on the nb, so there's no point in attempting it and saying its not working if you don't cool the northbridge correctly.Quote:

I can't imagine that if you thought you had better options you wouldn't have moved on by now.
When u mount a diffirent NB cooler, whats happends to to heatsinks that are on the mosfets etc. next to the cpu socket? Since its all connected with heatpipes and stuff.Quote:

Hi y'all,
I have the AW9D-Max on order and was just wondering if people would recommend apply new paste to the north and south bridge, will it make a lot of difference??
Was gonna use AS5 for paste, is this a lot better than the standard stuff??
Also thinkin of strapping a little 40mm fan on the NB, i have a scythe ninja though, will it get in the way?
Thanks guys & gals!!!

Huge FSB doesn't matter if you eat a large performance hit to match.
Is it really that bad?? The swiftech MCX 159 is virtually impossible to get hold of in the UK at the moment, at a rough estimate how much do you think it would drop the temp??Quote:

,thernalright HR05 is a great or better alternative. I have one and its great.
i'm with the nemesis on this one.
i've replaced the aw9d-max with an asus pb5-deluxe.
but i can't seem to get myself to sell the aw9d-max. i'm hoping REALLY REALLY hoping that abit will release a new magical bios that'll really unlock the potential for this board.
does anyone know what the bios date of the beta 13 b2 is? i just want to make sure it's different from the beta 13 b1.
beta13 b1 is 11/8/06 i blieve.
Hmm what's with all the Betas? Not enough engineers?
I still have all my stock heatsinks. I did remove the heatpipes. Lift all of them off at once. They come apart from HS by working them back and forth, except for SB. Leave it or cut it off. I replaced the thermal pads with AS5 after sanding them all but the SB. SB has nice copper plate that is plenty good. I just have fans on them. My temps are always in the 29 to 34c range. One reading may get to 35 but I don't remember which one.
Thanks coop, i'll bin the pipes then for sure!!! I'd be happy if i can get temps around that area!!!Quote:

Can we confirm that the reason that guru in bios loses it's settings after shutdown is due to bad batteries, or is it something else? Thanks:)
After shutdown, or after turning off power to the PSU? I'm not looseing settings by simply shutting down from windows and letting it set over night.
Havent turned off PSU yet, but if thats when settings get lost I better write down my settings because this board is running sweet where I have it set up now.
This problem is fixed with the newest .13 biosQuote:

Getting a bit confused by this now. Have been holding the power button in to shutdown on failed boots/oc's today. Then I switch the psu off and on and re-boot to bios. All settings in guru lost. Just thought it convenient today, but maybe that's the fail safe design and not a bug.
Will switch off the power to the psu tonight on a stable oc and see if all is fine in the morning.
Apologies for the sketchyness.

Nope! new beta BIOS dont fix it, at least not for me. Wrote down all my settings, loaded windows, played one round BF2142 :D . Shut down, switched off the PSU, came back in 15mins. switched on the PSU, pressed the power button...all the LED's are flashing something I had turned off. Went into BIOS and not a damn setting I had before is left :(
Gonna pull out the Battery check it with a DMM and stick a new one in either way and see what happens,,, shish I was starting to like this board:(
weird weird weird, I had the same problems but I updated from .13 alpha to the .13 beta 02 and it went away. I left my psu off over thanksgiving, came back, and turned my system on and the settings still stuck and booted right up.
 Yea it's a strange one for sure.Quote:

Got to thinking maybe the OEM battery wasn't seated right, so I stuck it back in, went to bios set it up booted to windows, then shutdown, and turned off the PSU's power, waited 10mins flipped the PSU back on booted, and was greeted to all default settings
:) I'm keeping the new battery in.
Is there a new beta 02 ?
Can someone point me the link please ?
Thank you.

WTF is up with Abit and this board??? First i jump ship from the DFI board to come to the Abit board and now DFI actually comes up with a decent bios while Abit has their thumbs up their bums. Its been nearly 2 months since the last bios revision, what the heck is going on at Abit lately? I new i shoulda trusted DFI and gave them a few more bios rev's to work out that Infinity board...
yep and all these betas.. with no big changes..

sheesh... 3 beta's in 2 weeks... yet nothing really fixed... interesting...

edit:
the vcore voltages now show up correctly in uguru
1.55 bios = 1.55 uguru
that's a step in the right direction! :)
in the new bios:
memory is stale again, no more crashes
thermal monitor 1 and 2 is back
the voltages are real now
maybe other things too, looks good for the moment, and maybe is me but everything is faster now

is this a good motherboard for a c2d 6400? I want to buy a 975 chip7 but asus cant pass 400fsb and this?
P5b deluxe is better than this one?
Sorry for my bad english.
@Ghostmaster
This wouldn't be the best board for a 6400. If you look through the thread you'll see that a lot of people can't get orthos stable over the low 400s.
I would be looking for at P5B Deluxe or any of the other P965 boards. If you really want 975X check out the dfi infinity board.
Okay Hilfiger thanks. i know on the x2's and dfi's it was recommended to keep the throttling off, I'll look into that:)

Took off thermal throttling and it's fine.

Well, new bios B03 still doesn't work properly with upwards multipliers with a QX6700. Up to 31x is available in bios, but only 2 of the 4 cores actually run @ +10x multiplier. Also with the QX6700 it really doesn't want to go much above 300 Mhz fsb either. So for now, the E6700 works quite well, and for QX6700 it is utter crap.
I saw that this board has some fitment issues with cpu heatsinks. Which one is most used? My temp is around 60 stock volts, 2.8Ghz and running 2 folding@homes. Idle temp is still hot at 48 and thats at around 2.5Ghz.
the scythe infinity fits fine as well as the tuniq tower 120Quote:

The voltage options changed for vcore in bios or and uguru and did not provide for exactly the same as before flash. Close enough though. In the last screen the vmch was increased .03v. edit** I did a 1m and an 8m and both were faster with the 03 bios as well, 15.578 to 15.562 and 3.11.344 to 3.10.859. Marginally but consistant.
It seems very low that load temp johnsally, comparing to idle and on air ??Quote:

This board is driving me crazy, i cant even get it to boot with FSB over 320. Here's a list of my equipment.
E6600
2gb PC8500 Corsair C5
The said motherboard
x1950xtx gfx card
150gb raptor
tagan 580w modular PSU
Scyth Ninja with Fan
Now i am finding a couple scenarios, occasionaly i will get it to boot but it will freeze at the POST screen and most times i will get no POST at all.
I spent a couple hours last night playing with different voltages, different RAM timings and any other setting i could play with... but ended up gettin really frustrated and the lack of success i was having. I had to reset to CMOS too many times, it was like with every reset the board was slowly edging towards the window ;)
Now i would have thought that i would not need to change anything to boot the FSB at 320 and yet i was still gettin problems, could someone please post me the settings that they would recommend using to get to about 350fsb, hopefully if i can get there then i may be able to start to push it further.
I am using the new b03 bios.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated as this board seems to have so much potential, i am just need to work out how to unlock it :)
Cheers

What vcore, vdimm and divider (if any) are you using ?

I miss the EIST as well. The voltage does not lower when just surfing aroud. Now at my usual clock speeds when idle my phase controller is keeping the fans on high. Its not enough reason to go back though :)Quote:

I pretty much tried all the different dividers for the above voltages obviously starting at the settings that gives me the quicker ram speed as the set i have is verified to run at 1066.
I have been reading up on the straps today so i am going to cycle through all the ratio's setting the strap to 1066 tonight.
Do you think my voltages are sufficient?
I'll give it a go thanks fhpchris, well except changing the sink, i dont really wanna do quite yet, plus there is not a lot of room between the gfx card and the ninja.Quote:
