Yes I have a week 24a (from memory). I bought the E6600 and p5w as soon as they were available in the UK. Had some spare money. At stock speed the conroe is very quick, so can only imagine what it's like at 4.0Ghz!

quick question about p5w with e6400 at 3.2ghz

i have it at 400fsb 1.4V and memory at pc6400 auto memory *6-4-6-14 auto voltage also

is there any way i can get a stable 5-5-5-12 or 4-4-4-12

i got 24a chip men does only 3.4ghz stabil 1.55vcore and 3.5ghz semistabil 1.58vcore,but my p5w stop at 395 need mch volt mod:(

any got the same chip?

Mine is also a 24A (x6800). It requires only about 1.48V (real) to be stable at 3,8 - which I think is pretty good. Mobo had to be droop-modded to achieve this.

BTW- i experienced similar performance degradation, and it ended up being one of my sticks of memory. I'd recommend burning a bootable copy of Memtest86 and trying your memory.

My mem is at corsair at the moment, so im waiting for replacements :)

Voltage is your friend! :D Set everything manual - 4-4-4-12 with 1.8v first, test if boot, then prime95s. If it fails, keep pushing more voltage until you're stable. Remember that you need more voltage to keep tighter timings at higher fsbs, and since we dont have any way to measure mem temperature, make sure you have some good airflow going around the memory and it's not hot to the touch.

I fixed my sig to include my storage server as well. Figured since we all have extreme systems, we can also include extreme storage? :)

Very good explanation.

I firmly belive that vcore fluctuation on this board is THE major issue in getting high and stable OC's on this board. Before mod I got droops in the 0,05 - 0,07 area. After mod, TAT is the only test that shows different idle/load vcore (TAT is brutal :D ). Under TAT the vcore droops about 0,01V. 2x Orthos vcore stays stable, as it does under 3DMark 05/06.

Just tested Memory and everything and I'm stable back at 3.4ghz. I had the mobo overloaded with LED fans. I took most of my fans off the mobo and connected directly to the PSU and it seems all is well again. :woot:

Hey guys, I have been following this thread for quite sometime now, and I have a problem with Overclocking now. Its strange because I didn't used to have this issue.

first off here is my rig

ASUS P5W DH
2GB Patriot 5300
Core 2 Duo E6400
eVga 8800GTS

I have done everything on the front page
cpu 1.52V
MCH 1.85V
ICH 1.20V

mem. timings 5-4-4-15

I had my FSB at 422x8 and it ran fine (1602 bios) and then one day my comp would post but freeze, so as soon as it would post I pressed Del. and it showed all the stuff loading and scanning or w/e and i noticed that when it got to
"flash drive port 0" it would freeze, so i took out my flash drive and all other usb connections and it posted but when it did post it showed the speed at 2.12ghz rather than 2.13ghz (is that normal?) I thought the CMOS reset its self so i went into the bios and the fsb was still at 422, so i just hit F10 and it posted and windows started up.

I never had any stability issues, then when I would restart every now and then it would not post, and I would have to restart manually, so i thought it might be the bios, so i flashed to 1707 and that decreased my max fsb to like 410, so i tried the 1801, and that decreased it to 400 and while using this bios it somtimes would not post at 400FSB, every other time i restart it would not post, and it would show up as 2.12ghz when I restart again...this is really pissing me off because I literally can't restart without having to ether lower the FSB or restart twice...this all took place over the course of 2-3 weeks

Also i flashed back to 1602 bios and still no luck my fbs is now stuck at 395

I'm stumped, is my board going bad? I also tried to clear the CMOS but still no luck

I've got a P5w that I love!!! But when I hook up a 2nd video card (a crappy 128 video card just to have my 3rd monitor :D But when I boot up it says "no 24 pin power connector."

My 1st video card is just a simple VGA 7600GS nothing too power hungry.
I figured this could be a common problem with this board.

is there a program that will monitor vMCH and vDimm in real time in windows? It seems that I'm only able to get my ram stable at 400mhz with auto voltage on vDimm and I'm curious as what voltage the board is using.

No, but it should be around 1.84v and btw, buy a digital multimeter

I do have a multimeter, but I lack any sort of common sense and don't know how to use it. Do I measure the voltage with the system turned on or off?

Hi folks,

I'm wondering if someone could shed some light on why I can't reach a higher speed with my RAM.

I'm currently running:
Intel E6700 @ 3.5GHz (350x10, 1.55vCore)
Corsair Dominator PC2-8500C5D 2GB Matched pair @ 876MHz @ 5-5-5-15 (manually set, but rated SPD)

Now I can't push the FSB any higher, even with going higher than 1.55v (which I don't want to do, as it's already high enough for air imho), and I can't change the bios FSB:RAM ratio any higher.
I've also tried lowering multiplier to 388x9 (3.492GHz) but the system won't stay stable - regardless of the RAM speed.

In each situation, I've tried maxing out all the other voltages (vMCH, etc) but nothing makes any difference... The machine will post but won't boot into windows when I select 950MHz or 1050HMz (the 1050MHz limit I understand is with the chipset, but 950 shouldn't be a problem??)
