And for reference, my 144 does 2.9GHz on 1.35v, so I'd definately call that "golden". I'd just call this an excellent chip so far. It appears the max I can do is 2847MHz dual-prime stable with 1.4v(20 mins and counting as I write this). Any higher and core 0 dies. However, core 1 was priming just fine at 2860MHz....stupid weaker core. :)

On to test 1.45v and see what we come up with....and I still have to check the stupid mount (I hate mounting, so that's why I'm putting that off until I get initial results).

Crazy that .05v gives you an additional 450MHz, I'd say the BSOD at 2.4 was definetly RAM related.

Nah, it was on the 133MHz dvidier, and diddn't hit stock speeds until 2.8GHz. Now it's set to the 100MHz divider (I could add vDIMM, but I don't feel like overclocking two parts at once).

I re-mounted it, and I think temps went up. :( I also just closed my window, so that might have something to do with it, plus the fact that my previous mount was burnt in for 6 hours today, while this is freshly applied and I used more than last time. Here are the shots of the previous mount:

If temps don't go back down by tomorrow, I'll pull it off and use about the same I did the first time. I figured more IHS coverage = better, seeing as how the core is bigger on these (and yes, I use the dot + squish method). For some reason though, this thing is running HOT...I only have a single 120mm dual pass rad, but the 165 is the only thing in the loop, and the rad doesn't feel like it's overloaded. I'll be fiddling with this thing for awhile yet, but I think temps are keeping me from 2.9+ stable. We'll see.

Dude, spread a layer on the CPU, dont do the dot, much less effective.

Im not defending anything, I wouldnt call my chip golden if it didnt hit 2.9 @ 1.4. Anything less just isnt.

The dot has always worked fine for me on CPU's with IHS, but naked cores need spread method

My freind wanted to do the dot as well, so we did (X2 4400+) and he wasnt quite pleased with his temps, so I spread it on for him and there was an immediate 2C drop.

Spread it with a razor blade, so it was beautifully thin...temps? Same. :p: I swear, it has to have been just burned in over the 5 hours it was priming today, the main 3 or so while I wasn't here. Either that, or I just had a magical spread I'll never get again. I also think the IHS has a lip around the outside, and isn't as flat as it could be @ the core's section, so I may try to lap the IHS if I can't get temps to cooperate. But in order to get the most out of this, I'm going to have to lap the IHS, or pop it off entirely. But for now, I'll play with 1.5v just for kicks, and probably set 2.8GHz 1.4v as my temporary stable setting until I get temps where they need to be.

I've done both and the dot works fine. Spreading over the whole IHS is unnecessary because the only heat is generated by the core and the core only contacts with the center of the IHS. Dot works just fine for me and has always given me good temps.

That's what I'm using. :slap: I have the big ass $18 tube of it, so that's why I don't mind re-mounting as much as needed as many different ways as I can think of, so long as I get a good end result. It's just a pain in the ass is all. Going to leave this spread overnight and see what we end up with in the morning. :stick:

Edit: Plus, let's not forget this IHS contact is iffy at best, compared to your 2.9GHz with 1.4v without a cap. On my 144, when I pulled the cap, I gained over 150MHz on my voltage/settings, and had more headroom than before on any voltage. If I can get 2840MHz with crappy IHS contact (on both sides :rolleyes: ) then I think I'll be "cherry" once the lid comes off, or is lapped. We'll see.

tsuehpsyde, where and when'd you buy that chip? If this happens to be the new "it" stepping, I will be willing to wait for it (even though I was planning on buying a x2 tommorow). I hope that high temp isn't characteristic of that stepping. Thanks, and come back with updates quick!

Opteron 170 CCB1E 0609EPAW , what do you guys think about that ? I'l try to reassamble my WC and get maybe some AS5 , it is very possible a 3GHz 24/7 prime stable chip ;) Primes at 3GHz @ 1.45V for about 10 min then one core fails , i think it's temp related cause it gets over +52-54 C , i'l have to improve my WC soon ... :slapass:

I got it from Monarch. I ordered it last Wednesday, they shipped it out Thursday, arrived today.

even with the IHS on spread the paste if possible, next time when your cpu underload try touching the edge or the side of the IHS with your finger and see what happen :lol: :D the IHS is a solid copper plate so the heat does spread through out the entire area, the heat doesn't just get stuck in the center :D if you feel all it needs is a dot in the center....I guess whatever work for you :D

I have a temp probe fitted to the edge of my IHS stuck on with AS5 epoxy and it has never got above 41C @ 2.9GHz, 1.58Vcore in bios when the ambiant was 38C :eek:

I'm having big problems with temp on my 0550VPMW, idle in windows my temp is 40C, I've got crappy WC (TT BW), and the fan on the radiator is at full speed!
Load temp during prime is about 51-52C.. But Core0 fails when the temp exceeds 46C!
Do you guys think it will help if I get an extra radiator ( I am thinking of a dual radiator) ?
Really need some advice from you guys, I don't want her topless just yet..
I think my chip is a golden one, as I have no problem doing things in windows at 3.05GHz as long as temp doesnt exceed 46C. How much would an extra radiator influence my CPU temp?

Edit: I have remounted the CPU block several times, since I thought it maybe was a bad mount, because of the high temps..

An extra radiator could help only if your CPU cooler extracts enough heat from the processor. If not, you have nothing to dissipate, and your problems come from a poor CPU cooler (Usually one 120mm cooler is enough if you only watercool the CPU). Investing in a good WC system may be a good idea since your chip has potential.

By the way, where did you find it ? databutikken?

That TT won't do anything for ya even with a 2nd radiator. The pump is simply too weak and the tubing too small. I know, I had one before I got real water cooling :P (and with a 2nd radiator as well)

0550 UPMW Currently Priming at 2900 1.54V Question though...Every time I start SP2004 on both cores whichever one I started first fails within 15 seconds but if I click on resume it will keep running without error. This happened at stock speed as well. Anyone ever seen this before? Also what is max safe voltage on an opty? My temps are only around 42C load atm.
