Hmm.. I had to do some modification cause one of the two hooks that hold the nb came off when I installed my thermaltake spirit II. Is this what happened to you? One of the hooks, or are you just talking about the stock stuff on the mb.Quote:

My first post is a question. I want to get the P5W DH system but don't have a need for the WI-FI or remote stuff. In other repects, is the P5W DH the same as the Deluxe without these things? Am I losing anything important by not getting the Deluxe? I want a good/fast system for video and photo editing and probably will not get into OC. Will probably get the E6600 for now and move up to the quads later this year (thinking that the quads are fairly expensive now and price will come down later with better performance point too and will be overall less expensive this route). Is the recommendation for this MB or something different?

I have a question about Windows and handling Core 2 Duo on this board. I can see in Task Manager and its CPU usage that when I ran a numerical simulation both of the cores are used for about 50% because of switching the task between the two cores. However, I would like Windows to handle the task better and to use only one core for 100%. I wonder, is there any way that Windows will stop switching between the two cores without manually setting it at Task Manager?

So far, i like the board but have to master all bios settings.
The only thing that kinda surprised me is that there's no beep coming from the pc speaker at post.
Is this turned off in bios maybe?
I already tried to flip the connector over but it didn't make a difference, maybe the speaker is just broken.
Right now i'm running orthos at 3.6GHz @ 1.42Vcore set in bios (~1.4V real), tonight i will lower multi to find max FSB.

I have Corsair XMS2 CAS4 6400 memory (2x512MB)
At FSB of 439 it will boot, but Windows doesn't start. So any ideas on what I can do to get Windows loaded ? If set FSB to be 412 at the same setting as above the Windows will start. Have I found the limit of my CPU ?
If I set FSB to be 440 it won't boot. Is my memory holding me back ?
Try setting the FSB to 400 and then using Clockgen to up the FSB from in windows... I run my E6300 @ 400Fsb and when its time to bench I clockgen up to 450 in windows..

I would recommend to stay with the intel 975 chipset, since it performs great out of the box without overclocking, however you don't have to spend the cash on this board. There is a DFI Infinity 975 board for half the cost, and if you put on the new bios and do a couple of soldering vMCH mods, you can hit serious fsb. Hi, you've actually just run into a problem that windows xp has that's inherent to how it operates as an operating system. It was not designed to run as a symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) OS, but rather single core, single thread. As Intel released their hyperthreading technology, windows modified its code to allow for this, and tweaked it slightly to fit our dual and quad core environments of today. First I must say that this is my first system build and first OC. I knew this was a possibility but didn't think it would happen this soon. Lately my OC has been showing signs of being unstable. I've heard that an OC'd system will need to be pulled back eventually because of the voltage and electrical things that happen which I don't quite understand.
My rig has been OC'd to 340fsb since September and gets a lot of use. I've had to take my system from 340x10 fsb at 1.4vfsb, 1.65vmch and 1.525vcore (1.5v actual) to 333x10 with the same voltage. I think it's stable now but I won't know until Prime runs for a while more.
Is this the beginning of the end for my system? Is the CPU or the mobo causing the problem?

Well I had the same problem except that my OCs were a little higher than yours, I started thinking that it was my CPU when infact it was the mobo. I know of another person that switched mobos and everything was fine again.
Switch mobo's? Another P5W DH or a different mobo? What's my best choice now that the 680i are out?
Also, how much can I expect the system to degrade?
EDIT: and in reply to your OC being higher than mine... this is my first OC and I hope with a little experience I'll get up there with the big OC's.
Well I'm loyal so I got another P5W DH, the other dude went to a P5B Deluxe. I'm actually quite suprise yours started to give you problems with low FSB, but I guess each system is different. Oh yeah, don't quote me on been the Mobo, so far that has been the cause.Quote:

I won't hold you to that but thanks either way. My system degrading so quickly may have something to do with my inexperience and over-volting to figure out this OCing thing. I read up quite a bit before I OC'd but it seemed like I had to pour a lot of volts into my system to get a decent OC out of it. Also, my NB ran pretty hot for the first few months until I got a fan on it.
hmmm. Prime just failed after 1 hour so I guess my work isn't done yet. F'n OC addiction! I wish I could just put the system back to stock and call it a night but I just don't have it in me.
What about running LED fans from the mobo connectors? could that be giving me problems. I recently switched my ExtremeSpirit and OCZ memory cooler to the mobo connectors.
EDIT: what's this symptom called so I can search it a bit?
There's only one way to find out, put the other fans back. I'm not sure that the name might be. What about your temps? I Fold with my rigs so they are always @ 100% CPU usage and so far they are going strong.Quote:

I'm on air cooling, using a Thermalright Ultra 120 with 120mm fan. I have a 40mm fan on the NB too. On my list of things to do is to improve the air cooling setup in my case. I don't really heavily use my E6600 and P5W system, just playing at the moment. I've been trying to get 3.6Ghz stable with Orthos so that's why I've cracked up the CPU vcore to 1.65. The temps at idle in Windows are between 48-50°c. I have run Orthos for 10mins but then the temps jump into mid 60s°c, which is too high for my liking and so stop the testing.Quote:

I using 1804 BIOS at the mo. This one is dated 8/01/07. Haven't notice anything new in the BIOS options. I've tried 1803 and this is dated 4/01/07.
