I just got an interesting finding... I reconfigured my FSB/RAM settings and now ORTHOS reads the actual speed of my CPU [which is exactly the same as before]. The old settings were 9 x 475 = 4275, the new settings are 9.5 x 450 = 4275; and like I mentioned in my last comment [above] ORTHOS read the speed of my CPU at 4515Mhz, and it must have done something to the actual speed because my temps reached a whopping 67c but now they hardly go over 61c while performing the exact same test. Anyone care to comment on this?
On a side note, I'm currently running ORTHOS with the new settings, but instead of small FFT 8Ks as before, I'm doing a blend to test my new RAM settings. Have any of you noticed ORTHOS "paging" while running this test? I had never seen that before; although in my defense all I used ORTHOS for has been small FFT 8K tests in the past.
Normally a higher multi bundled with a lower FSB could be obtained with lower Vcore, so resulting in lower temps... but that's a big drop for the same overal CPU speed...Maybe the TIM has settled now, lower ambient temps ?
The Paging also happens here when running blend mode... don't worry about it... result added thx for the contribution mate, nice setup :)
I didn't lower the vCore or anything for that matter [CPU related]. The changes were mainly in the RAM department, I went from CAS8 [8-8-8-16] to CAS7 [7-7-7-14] just to see if I gained any performance. I also tried it to lower the Performance Level [CAS8 had Lv7] but when I tried Lv6 on CAS7 and ran any stress test/benchmark it rebooted my PC; so Lv6 is a no go. Ambient temperature still the same inside my house [air conditioned], outside however did drop a lot, but since the AC is on I know it has nothing to do with the result.
I guess it's because of the Blend Mode that the temps went down a little as it's supposed to stress CPU less than Small FFTs.
As for the speeds, Orthos cannot correctly detect the speed of a CPU with multiplier lower than stock (9.5 in your case). All it does is multiplying the correctly read FSB by the max multi of the CPU.
And nice OC result btw. I thought my brains stopped responding when i saw 0.9xx in cpu-z :D, but with 1.32v it's still a great chip. The max temps however are just the same as on my 8400 4.2 @ 1.400v and air cooled .
Hi all,
I placed an order for the e8400 along with the Asus P5Q-E, OCZ GameXStream 700w PSU, and CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 2 x 2GB last week and looking forward to some work this weekend. Anyone here with a similar board and CPU layout and can post a starter BIOS settings for me to work with?
Thanks!
My new result.Q749A091,1.58v real or so.

exellent oc4/3 !
Well been about 5 months or so since I tried to OC this computer (just been letting it sit at stock because no good games to play ATM). So, I decided to see if I could finally get 4Ghz 24/7 stable. I think I may have done just that.
So far:
3DMark Vantage stable, 1hr OCCT Mem stable, and 20hr Prime95 8k-128k stable.

Going to let it crunch away at some proteins for the next day or so for the final test.
Edit: Just finished 2hrs of OCCT Mem testing (like that more than 1hr)
Quick info on my new E8400
480x9=4320 @1,3700 (bios) and 2x2GB RAM @1152/5-5-5-15/2,0V (bios) - no timing and voltages optimisation yet...

SuperPi1MB = 10,922, more tests to come
So, there is no need to run also 3DMark Vantage at the same time to proove stability ??? Glad to hear that  ;)
As you can read in previous post - it's just quick info and more tests are still to come, so relax....
but still - I think 20hrs of Prime95/Orthos/StressPrime tesing is a bit to much (I think 6hrs Orthos priority 8 (min), and 1hr of 3DMark06 at max quality settingsis is enough) :yepp: After all - life corrects everything :D
EDIT:
Show me your 20hrs test printscreen @4,2GHz as given in your sig - if it is not a big problem :P
20H is tooo much for nothing 3h shows 24/7 stability for good 10h of blend is sure nice but 20h is overkill :p
or 48 hrs of folding ;)
LOL I was kinda of messing with you with the 20-hour thing because you said 8-min and I think you should relax.. I think a run of Small FFT's will do the trick. I only run about a 1 hour of PRIME95 Small FFT's, 1 hour of BLEND like you said, Superpi 32M a couple of times, and the same with 3DMARK06, and MEMTEST. And I will show you mine if I can see yours of course as long as you are a chick..
Ok, so I'm working on my first OC here. I just got my E8400 in a few days ago (Still waiting on the MB - DFI Lanparty LT X48 T2R). Anyway, I would be interested in hearing how high you all are managing to get this chip/mobo combo 24/7 stable and what settings you are using to do it.
Also, my batch # is Q815A418. Anyone have experience with OCing this batch and know how well it clocks?
This is the best of the 3 I have owned
My E8400 seems to have a 9.5 multiplier?? I just had enough time last night to get it installed but all the computer did was beep really fast. about 3 beeps/sec continuously and since it was after 10pm already i just went to bed. Wasnt going to start troubleshooting at that time.
So this morning I unplugged everything except keyboard and video and it started right up. After I set the BIOS (bios was showing a 9.5 multiplier also) and all to a FSB 400 and booted it i saw the post screen said 3.8Ghz. I only let it hit the desktop then shut down cause I have to do this work thing. I though the E8400 was locked.
I set the Vcore to 1.36 in bios. CPU -z read my voltage .04 less then waht bios is set at so
vcore 1.32
FSB 400
Memory all auto
Vmem +.2
Vfsb +.1
Vmch +.1
Booted right up at 3.8Ghz no problem
I will try some tweeking over the next couple nights until I can post some screenshots. Maybe get in the database. But I wanted to give an update. I was soo way past due for a good CPU.
