Dang you are persistent I would have packed it in alot earlier. Not sure if this would help you at all but it has given me a problem in the past installing new motherboards. Check to ensure the case mounting brackets for the motherboard are not shorting out spots on the bottom of the board. Other then that with what you did to try to resolve your issue. It appears it would have to be a compatitbility issue with the CPU. If I was you I would return it and get a 6600 and Overclock it and spend the difference on a better video card. I have this board and have had very few issues with it and it runs my 6600 cpu at 3.1 ghz on air no problem. Good luck.Quote:

To solve some of the issues with the P5wdh, I did try a different firmware the 1607 i think but the ez flash utility could no longer function properly as in it does not allow me to choose the rom file from neither my harddisk or USB thumbdrive. I got around by switching jumpers on the mobo clearing the memory on the bios. Under a "new" bios detection i went direct to bring back the function to flash the firmware back to 1707. The bios are indeed screwed.
Long gone are the issues I had faced with the P5dwh with the change to DS4. Infact the benchmarks are identical on both. I see no obvious edge between both, other than the Ds4 being slightly cheaper that is and a hack lot more stable than the Asus cream board. The bios on this gigabyte is up to date from the default bios that came with the board. No more erroneous temp readings, strange bootup problems. Best of all the DS4 doesn't lock the CPU multiplier allowing me to o/c very easily without stressing the rams on stock voltage at 1:1. 3.1ghz can be achieved with multiplier 11 with bus speed set at 282, all voltage set to stock. The P5wdh was locked from 6-10 only. For a moment i thought the cpu was locked?! Tried the asus software on windows... pushed it to 11 and the bios reports it at 6 and pushed the cpu voltage to 1.6V upon boot up this was on 1707 under auto settings!
Its been a few days since the change. The Qx6700 is set to 3 ghz.(11x273) coupled with the thermaltake big typhoon VX temp on both CPU and board are around 45 o/c. I cannot be happier with the current setting after what i have been through. I am avoiding Asus forever.
Yes i did alot of checkings with no luck, infact i swopped the old 945 mobo into the new casing with no issues. As i am not using the setup for games, I am happy with the 6600 video card. I did thought of the changing to the Duo core2 6600, the shop was accomodating should i need to change over. However, they too find the board could be the source and not the CPU. Having tested the 820 that hung on bootscreen with the p5wdh, I concluded after trying 4 different copies of p5wdh, I am better off with another brand of mobo. I simply wasn't convinced that either the qx6700 or the asus could be that screwed. Asus proved me wrong maybe it works just fine on the Duocore2. After 2 weeks, I have lost track of time somewhat. The DS4 allows me to o/c easily with the qx6700. I am happy at 3 ghz with 667 rams at 1:1 at stock voltage.Quote:

I don't get any errors when booting up with this bios, maybe a reflash might fix yours...
Does anyone know if the Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Tenth Anniversary modules are ok with this motherboard and I can turn off the dreaded SPD and run more agressive memory settings?

Yesterday my OC @ 400x8 froze in Half-Life 2 which is very sensitive to oc'ing.
I used vCore 1.43 and vDim 2.1 and the rest set to auto. Now, today I'm using the same vCore and the same vDim.
changed to this instead of auto. took them a snap up from lowest.
vFSB 1.40
vMCH 1.65
vICH 1.20
Half-Life don't freeze and makes the system hang up anymore =)
Now iam wondering which made the system stable. Is there any good programs that i can test the stability of each one of them so i know which one i can lower?
Couple questions for the experts.
1) For those of you using a sound card (i.e. Creative XFi Music), how do you address the RealTek HD audio feature of this board? Is the HD audio feature of this board only for the on board sound, or does it apply to third party cards. I ended up having to install the drivers for the RealTek and then disable the HD Audio in the BIOS in order to get Device Manager to remove the exclamation mark from the RealTek on board audio. Is this the best way to handle this?
2) For those of you using an external wireless router, how do you address the on board wireless? Similar to the situation above, I had to install the drivers and then turn off the "Radio" in the software applet to get Device Manager to remove the exclamation mark from the on board wireless component. If I "Disable" the on board wireless in the software applet (which I believe would be preferable), Device Manager shows it with an exclamation point. Is just turning off the "Radio" how everyone is handling this?
Thanks for the help!
Hi rpr, the answer to your second query is that if your aren't actually using wireless then turn off usb 5/6 in the bios. If you are using wireless then all you need to install is the drivers, not run setup from the download. Just update the driver from within device manager and point it to the unzipped folder...

Yeah Chris the 10th Anniversary works fine. I just purchased these from the Newegg sale and they work great:Quote:

Finally another user who's having similar temperature readings as me!!
I did post a while back with a screeny, but at that point nobody else had seen it before!
To cut a long story short, I'm pumping 1.55v (in bios at least) through my E6700, running at 350x10. This is with a zalman 9500 and AS5 - the AS5 appears to make no difference from the standard zalman paste.
Maybe we've both got defect boards!?
Just thought I'd say you're not alone!

If I had to guess, I would point the finger at my memory. If that's the case, what I would like to know is which 2GB kit of PC2-6400 memory is the best for this board.
Thanks.

its probably your cpu man
anyone know what the EEPROM update for the wifi ap solo actually does/fixes?

I can't do 3GHz with anything less than 1.35v in the BIOS. At that setting, though, it typical droops to 1.32. Anyway, I knew the week 24 A was a relatively poor overclocker, but I still figured 400 was doable with enough volts. I think I went as high as 1.6v - just for sh*tz and giggles - and it still wasn't stable. Oh well, one often pays a price for early adoption.

My week 26A can do 3GHz with stock voltage but now it's at 3,6GHz with 1,56v set in BIOS @ 1,53-54 real...
Most can........in fact I'd say ALL can :)Quote:

You would have to be really unlucky to get a chip that wont ;)
Hi guys, I'm new to the forums.
I am have problems with this board.
My board stopped booting a few days ago. But has been giving me trouble for a while, windows becoming corrupt and did random reboots even when running the cpu at stock. (wasn't sure it was the motherboard at this stage)
I tried loads of things but the only thing that got it to boot was not just reset the cmos bios as normal, but to leave the battery out.
With no CMOS battery in the motherboard boots fine, I can then change setting and get into windows. Cold booting with CMOS battery in (ie some settings saved, even fail safe) and the board will not boot. I can flash the bios just fine and have tried a few different versions, which has not heloped.
So the system is only usable now with no cmos battery in and I have to setup bios each boot.
Can a faulty motherboard corrupt windows?
Has anyone seen anything like this weird boot problem before? It has me baffled.
I hope someone hear can offer some advice , otherwise I will have to try an RMA.
have you tried replacing the cmos battery with a new one?
Yes and no luck :(Quote:
