My complaint is not with overclocking it's with the texture flashing my card is suffering from in 3DMark05, it's not excessive but it's noticable as it flashes a few times :(
The BIOS Flash didn't cure the problem, have I got a poor overclocking XT? :(:(
Have you tried dropping clocks to see if it still has flashing textures???
Welcome not all cards are guarenteed to overclock well. *I don't think I can spell good*
Mine doesn't do all that well but it plays the games I want it to and all so I am happy with it.

Who know, my OC is pehraps not enough stable and when OC the GPU, crash come from that...
Actually i use Corsair with a bad divider, cause they don't clock high (2 years old XMS3200C2), i have command new OCZ Elite 4800, (my old seems never go back from California RMA) will see that in end of the week... Same style i think play with a Opteron 148 for see if i can oc it more of my 3700+.. ( with OCZ normally 3.1Ghz).
If the Opteron keep a 10x multiplicator, i ca certainly clock it for bench at more of 3.2Ghz... (320x10)

I haven't touched the fan speeds yet, are people adjusting theirs for the flash?
In real i have some problem say if it's high or not...the card is around 50-57°C
idle stock air.. 77°C is certainly not hot with stock speed but if you OC, you will see this temp. increase a lot..
Is this happend when you OC? and at how many speed?
And yes..if you OC push the fans to 100% before...
Other ask for indentify the problem.. is this artefact happend during games or bench at stock speed ?
I just did a 3DMark03 test and it has the same artifacting which and short and wide triangle artifacts :(
I changed the fan speeds in ATITool and it annoys me whenever I use it, that it resets the clock back to the 2D clocks according to Rivatuner during benching :confused:. Then I change the clocks to the 3D defaults clocks which are 695/792 from the flash and not long after doing that it locks up and all I can do is move my mouse :confused:. A few seconds later I get a ati2dvag BSOD :mad:
Is there a way to adjust the fan speeds without ATITool interfering with the clock speeds?
I apologise for being a n00b as I haven't been with ATI since my 9800 Pro which I wish they made overclocking easier :(

What does your HIS overclock to? Using which BIOS? And what voltages?
And as for you getting a Opteron 148, you missed out on me selling mine for $230. It was a very nice stepping and did 3.0 @ v1.500. I went back to my San Diego 3700+ because the Opty didn't like my RAM at all and I didn't have the money to buy more. It was a waste to use it at stock clocks I saw...

ATITool shouldn't interfer with clocks at all just using it for the Fan-Speed controller. That is what I use...unless you are using Beta 11. If so grab Beta 10. That is the main reason I don't use Beta 11...I let ATI CCC set my overclocks for 24/7 use. Any other questions?
I tried this bios before,its very good.But after the ATI tool B.11 was out,and its automaticly disabled 2d/3d i decided to switch back for easier overclocking.
@Lane and Cybertronic ,its probably better if you mod your stock cooling like i did,i removed the stock fan and put 90mm fan directly to the hs and 1 80mm to blow out the hot air.You just need to remove couple screws without break anything.I can now play game at 1.45v 729/880 24/7 with max temps are ~65C and room temperature is 30-35C .
First, yes but sorry UGP, i think the price for ship a Opty to my home ( Switzerland) will cost you more of the CPU itself...
for the OC: i can clock at around 750/880 but i can have display freeze during bench at this speed... Bios PE Saphire OC bios.
For TheValVe, the card is watercooled.. 1-A cooling for the GPU, 1-A HV4 for CPU (1.67V@26°C) i have 2 separate circuits, so 2 pumps Eheim 1048 + 1250 and 4 radiators for refresh each circuits.
Now for my crash ( freeze display) during bench, i have more of 16x 120mm fans installed on same PSU ( my radiators and case fans), and many other thing in 12V.. the possibility i see is my PSU is enough for stock speed and for OC, after when i will more... the 12V begin be instable and the DDR or the card have a high variation in voltage of core or memory, offtly the message: "the display have changed" appears after freeze ( if i do a ctr-alt del and wait around 30 sec during blaxck screen, the PC come back to desktop and this message appears, giving by the 3Dmark)
I thing so the voltage regulator and a security is applied and change speed of core... ( it's a theory, the card work pehraps totally differently.)

Lane-k, Ati's VPU rocover is kicking in causing the black screen and the error from 3dmark. You are pushing the gpu too hard, locking it up...

It can be this, i increase a lot the voltage and the waterblock i use is not really do for this... I hesitate use the swfitech waterblock with peltier integrate ( no complexe install to do in more, it's a prebuild system), one for the GPU and one for the CPU... But looking now too CES2006 review, OCZ have relase a Phase change really nice for realy cheap... around 220$, so this price allow you use a second for the GPU or i go for the waterblock/Peltier and the Phase change for the CPU...lol...Will see..Quote:

need make some test.. use Riva tuner for see if you not applied voltage if the core Voltage change when you open the ATI-Tool... but i think it don't change anything before you applied... note i use this one only for bench, so C and for change voltage.. si i have not verify if in normal use it set different thing.. i know when i restore default ( by ATI- tool) i crash directly.. so i think this restore default voltage but not the right for the card.. this is why i re-boot the PC when i will back to normal speed and play.

I flashed back to my stock BIOS. I was getting VPU recovers and system lock ups...once was a total system lock up with those funny sounds coming from the speakers...not sure if this is due to video or what...but system is at stock settings on everything except video. Will do some further testing.
what was your clocks on the card with the PE bios and what temps/volts were you getting with the vpu recovers and system lock ups. Thanks.

A good 8c less with half the noise. I don't like Beta 11 for the sake that it keeps everything in 2D clocks meaning voltage increases stay after 3D apps are closed and you are back on the desktop. Having 1.4v+ for idling the card is a bit much as I did notice a temp increase of 4c this way idle. If we truly don't need up to 1.4v for 3D at stock XT speeds it would be nice to somehow modify the bios or the ATI service that controls this to increase clocks but not volts from 2D volts. I know im babbling about here so I'll stop now, but just wanted to share my findings.Quote:
