Hm... Do you guys know why I cant run FAST CPU decode on my KX7 with a Tbread procesor but can run it with a palomino? I think its general anc cant fix it...:(Quote:

The way the BIOS is setup, Normal==Fast and Fast==Ultra for CPU decode. This was discovered and noted by MrIcee early on in his KD7 testing, and since this KD7-E is the "little brother" to the KD7, the same applies.
My next board will be either of an NF7 R2 or a shuttle (don't laugh, the board looks like a fun challenge :)), but this KD7-E of mine is definately a keeper!

But why can I run 198mhz CAS2 fastest timing and FAST decode on a Palomino?
with the Tbread I can only run FAST decode to...lets sa 1800mhz...
Sorry, early morning posting (I haven't been awak for long), I read KX7 as KD7 in your request.
KX7 BIOS was programmed with the "proper" labels for CPU decode.
I'm no expert on this, but if that were happening to me I'd suspect the memory controller needed more burnin on the tbred - to give it a chance to adjust to the processor. The ABIT BIOS have a lot of visibile and non-visible "Auto" settings so my suspicion is that ABIT made the BIOS reactive to different loads presented to the motherboard.
The timings on my Palomino and Tbred were different enough that I needed to "start over" on memory conditioning when I switched between the two.

Coes I cant breach 1900mhz with any Tbread CPU with FAST decode...if I drop it to normal the clocks get normal..2Ghz++
I also noticed that whenever anyone uses 1 stick of 512MB memory..no matter what the FSB is, sandra always shows arround 2500MB with a Tbread CPU...again if I use a Palomino I get normal BW like almost 3k with 198mhz FSB and so on...
well its a old board but with these Tbreads its getting weird...time to swap..
Another thing - please, no offense meant - but from your sig, getting PC3200 performance out of PC2100 memory is an awesome feat.
But, have you considered that your memory might be at the ragged edge at 200 FSB and that the slightly different timings induced by the differing core technologies are what's causing your lack of success with pal vs tbred cores?
Any chance of trying different memory, perhaps some certified PC3200 memory?

Well I am the first one to have spotted what a Samsung stick can do..if its the right one. There is an old thread over at icrontic where I disclosed this chips performance and at that time everyone started buying Samsung PC2700 ant it was the best RAM. (even MrIcee and Oppainter).
This ram does 212mhz with relaxed timmings on my KX7 using 2.85V on it.
It does 208mhz CAS2 and 198mhz MAX! Timings with 2.85V.
Its rated PC2100 CAS2.5 and it has 7.5ns chips...
OK this is the history of my remarkable memory module, ass you can see I have been using it for a year and its still top but right now I am searching for 2 sticks of better RAM but I cannot get any good ram here in Slovenia...No corsair no Kingston no nothing...
Its a weird proplem and I do not need huge FSB to proove it...so..the problem remains and my board is not the only one tht cant handle FAST deccode with a Tbread.
I should frame the memory when I get new ones...

Any chance of sharing the vendor/manufacturer/chip markings on that stick? It would be nice to "discover" some good memory for future purchase!

I descovered it by chance..I sell computers and had Corsair PC2400 and it did 180mhz CAS2 but it was not enough 4 me so I began testing every stick that came thru my hands and once by chance got this sammy and it did 200mhz FSB on my KR7 which was just stunning for that time...
well I think I am going to order some Twinmoss from memoryx. How secure will that be? I never bought something in the USA and just now I have seen that they can shipp it to Slovenia...
As near as I can make it out from the picture, that's the famous ram sold here in the states as "Original Samsung CTL PC2700" - if so, no wonder it runs 200+ FSB.
No idea how secure buying from the U.S. will be, memoryx has a pretty good rep though.

well i got now the promise ultra133 tx2 card.. but still the same problem !!!! Can it be that my hdds only supportin UDMA100
and the card/abit kd7e supports UDMA133??
and another question: how can i set the ide controller to run in PIO mode or other modes?? thx for ya answers
swissocer, in the BIOS panel "Integrated Peripherals" select "OnChip IDE Device"
Set all the "... PIO Mode" settings to PIO 4 or PIO 3 and all the "... Ultra DMA " settings to "Disabled"
Then, in your O/S disable DMA as well (how depends on which O/S your are using).
sorry i meant how can i set the ide controller card to run in those modes...
well its been good with the KD7, all but the fsb hd problem. now its time to say good bye, as i am selling it tonight to a friend. the NF7 1.2 is soon to follow.

MDZCPA Et Al,
I just got a new stick of Corsair mem 3200LL. Do I have to set the 2-2-2-6 1T manually or does the BIOS pick it up when I set it to SPD? KD7E C8.
If you set it to SPD and reboot, you can go back into the BIOS and see the SPD settings it wants to set it at. They are greyed out and below the "spd"choice.
I always suggest setting the memory manually. I doubt the SPD settings will be close to what that stick is actually rated at by Corsair.
Ok, went back into BIOS and the right settings did appear 2-2-2-6(greyed out) however DRAM command remained at 2T. Can I change to 1T because that is what the memory is supposed to run at or is 2T better on this board (KD7E)?
If I enable Enhanced DRAM Performance it will stall after the first 6 or so lines of bootup. (CPU speed, Mem DDR400, HD, Cdrom, etc.)
Also why are my SiSandra mem bandwidth results the same or less than I got with my Crucial PC2100. 1977/1856
This Corsair mem (XMS cmx256A-3200LL) should show better.
I do see an improvement in my Prime95 times.
Is my CPU, 1600 at 1500, holding me back?

1T is better. Greyed out means you have the memory set to run at SPD. Use manual settings like mdzcpa said. (OT) How come I want to pronounce mdzcpa as "mad zippa" :D
Your bandwidth looks like you're runing at 133 FSB. You'll need to increase the FSB to gain memory performance.
well im gonna get me an epox 8rda this mobo has great oc options but its not really stable :(
