maybe current X850XT PCI-E cards already can do AMR with an ATI board hehe
This is a great marketting ploy by ATI. They should do something like this to introduce every new card generation that they want to make a splash. I wonder what magazines are going to cover the event so we can all read about it. Good luck fellas! It wonder what kind of tricks you'll pick up from each other and leave the rest of us masses even that much farther behind.
The design of AMR is to use any two ATI PCI-E cards without any additional hardware connectors (like SLI). The logic is all controlled within the ATI chipset. And, chipsets are a lot easier to design than a video card!Quote:

NONE counts out FUGGER.......When he "come's out" he'll do it by his own unique way.........."BANG here I am"....... :DQuote:

It would be NICE if AMR worked THAT WAY!!!!
But somehow I doubt it :(

the new bridge chip ati has got might have something to do with it charlie.
The next six months may look like this:
1. ATI releases AMR chipset boards for AMD. They supposedly can use two different ATI cards, but lowest common denominator wins. So, have an x850 XT PE and an x850 XT, the XT clocks will be the limiting factor. The nVidia bridges the core logic of one processor and assumes the exact same instruction sets, hence, the same card and BIOS rev requirement.
2. Intel releases the dual core 3.2 EE that actually beats the FX-57 (who knows, right?). AMD snaps back with a dual core FX. This may happen sooner than we expect.
3. The Nforce4 (5) for Intel is released so SLI is available for Intel users and the new powerful dual EE. So, the choice becomes dual EE and SLI nVidia or FX-57 and dual ATI? Each has its merits, and we all sit around wishing ATI made an Intel AMR chipset.
4. ATI and nVidia release 512 MB cards based on new cores with even more pipes (24). AMR and SLI systems now push 48 pipes! Standard hop scotch marketing with specs.
5. nForce 5 AMD chipset released to support DDR2 and SLI. ATI releases second stepping of AMR chipset. No support for Intel on AMR. Intel locked into nVidia for a spell.
So, again, we will be faced with powerful CPU, but the second best video card, initially. When AMD releases the dual core FX that works with a new rev of ATI AMR and DDR2, we will have found the enthusiast sweet spot for the year.
They sh.. their pants now :D
Hmm, so maybe no reveal from ATI. I guess they are referring to single card records. Oh well, we can always hope!
You guys will have fun down there. It will definitely be interesting to see what three of the best clockers in the world can do on the fly!
guess they want cooperation to ensure that the sli record (which aren't published anymore??) get pulled down with a never seen before (amr??) motherboard?
i think you're forgetting Digitaljesus who used to make his own cooling and held #1's for longer than i can remember (101xx in 3DMark2000 for example), Jazmon, Hiwayman, Mr.Icee, Cathar etc.Quote:

QuadDamage - Is DJ not still active at AkibaPC?.. I thought i saw him there some time ago?.. Or..
Im sorry to have "forgotten" Jesus and Your self and the others. But the guys i mentioned was the ones who are still active.. :) I havent seen a score from DJ and the others in ages now.. :) I hope i did´nt offended you ;)
But if i made a list it could go on and on.. and on.. :D
lol. well from OPP's post it looks like we won't be seeing an R520, or even AMR. I'd guess a Bullhead board, but just a single card version. A bit disappointing as we actually have seen this baord already, as bigtoe had a very early beta. I'm sure, however, that this will be a more overclocker friendly and revised version(not to say the bigtoes didnt OC well already ;)).Quote:

Sounds to me like an x850 with AMR bridge most likely. I really do doubt that it is the r520. They would be mad to upgrade it so soon after releasing the x850, and i can't see them pushing that down to mid range and replacing it with r520, as their midrange is already rather good with the x800xl, x800 and x800 pro.
So unless they shift ALL there products down a grade (and admittedly, their low-end is rather week, nothing compares to the 6200) then i see it as unlikely them releasing the r520. My thoughts.
wow...
im definately going to be quitting my job to ensure im there... hows that for xtreme?
hey, if youre going to attend, post here so we can get a good idea as to who to expect :toast:
We know where and when and very little on details yet. ATI will be providing some parts and not completely sure of what those parts are yet.
None the less, it will be great time and like I said. Just meeting macci makes it all worth it.
Hopefully ATI will let us know rules and details soon.
Well congrats and good luck to all 3 of you. Looks like its going to be a blast!
Im in support for OPP since he is a local and Terry is a good person. I still like you though Fugger!, lol.
So Macci is going to be useing Ln2?
Or are you guys gonna be somehow shareing the cascades as a team?
This isnt a competition man it is a groundbreaking event.. Team XS!!
Im glad i can witness this first hand.
Pretty soon there will be overclockers that are sponsored by major retail companies..
I think that the last thing you guys should be worried about is who is going to win.
All of these guys are truely the best and there are too many decideing factors to get a real winner!
"I am hoping that all three of you will work together to beat any existing records as opposed to it being a competition"
It's an interesting thing when the desires of big business has to contend with the lone man who pits his skills against other lone men week after week. 3dmark and overclocking is not normally a team sport. It is man against machine. So saying work together is at odds with what we're all about.
However, it is is very good of Ati to get this all arranged and so I can see where they are coming from in regards to the thread. However you cannot take away 4 billion years of evolution, everyone knows the best overclockers get the most ladies for their "herd" ;)
I'm sure it will be competitive but I'm equally sure everyone will have a good time and Ati will get a lot of column inches.
Regards
Andy
The site seems extra slow today!
Maybe its because you guys are makeing news all over the place:D
Acid*
Yes that too - I think fugger 7ghz attrievement has something to do with it too :D
