sys you really should look into getting a Audigy. I have had one for over a year now and when i purchased my epox 8rda+, i thought the sound quality was going to be better onboard (b/c of all of the soundstorm 2.0 hype) so i put my audigy away for a while....

the second i changed soundcards i realized how much more superior audigy was from everything else. It is just very very noticable....

if you have the $$$ plop down the $60 and get the card. It makes a world of difference. especially w/ 4 speakers :)

:eek: I would not flash the non deluxe board with the deluxe bios. Also, if you dont have a copy of your current bios, I would not flash it with another. Going from E to D may solve issues but could break something else too. Asus seems to always have bad or dead links on their site. They may have newer versions for your board but if you cannot recover by flashing back to what you now have, I would not do it. Just keep checking their site for updates. And check other message forums too.

Some have had issues with the bios not retaining the changes they made. They have to make the change several times for it to be seen. There is a problem too, opon save and exit from bios that could trash the board. Not even clearing cmos fixes it. You would have to replace the mobo. It is on the rev 1.04 and 1001e bios too. Check out this message forum for that info. Its on the 13th page just after your first post here.

:confused: You said you have been running 3 days. Is this constantly? Like is your computer on always? And, without lockups, issues? Have you been able to play any games without flickers? Benchmarks are neato, but I like to actually "play" with my puter, not just see theroretical numbers.

I very much want to get the OZC sticks. You are the only I have come across that has them. Others had, but could not get their systems to work. OZC doesnt even have them on their site for this board , nor does Asus. :upset:

My board its Non Deluxe 1001E Bios by default. Off course im not thinking flash the bios with a Deluxe Bios. I have almost certain that this board came with a Deluxe Bios version.

I think i will give a try, saving my current 1001E Bios and flashing with 1001D NonDeluxe Bios of Asus FTP. (i have a little affraid...hehe), or i will wait a little until Asus came out with another bios version.

The 13th page only refers to Deluxe Versions.

My power supply is a Chieftec 340w, i have 1 Western Digital 80gb Special Edition, 1 DVD, 1 CD-RW, my GF4 TI4200, Creative LS Live 5.1, Ethernet Controller, and Lots of Fans in my moded case, and i dont have any problems.

And Yes...3 days without turning off my PC. I got my PC 24h/day turned on. Yesterday i came home, and my Pc was turned off, my mother shut it down. :(((( AHHHH

I Play a lot, and till now...no problem. OCZ-EL is kicking ass.

340 supply might not be enough, though it seems. How do you know that the voltage for the core, mem , etc.. is actually what it should be. Sure, it's set in the bios, but is it really that? I don't know of anyway of finding out. I would think that if you whould be gettin +5 v from the power supply and the mobo see's 4.65v
it is possibly too soft.

Its either a supply issue, or mem, IF you have already made sure the video card is fully seated into the agp slot. I've heard that slot is tight on this board.

Yeah, I used to think 340 was a hella power supply....but now I wouldn't go below 400...and am using vantec stealth 520 which is probably overkill...but i'm running a lotta crap....and then there's power supplies....and POWER SUPPLIES even at the same Watt ratings.

I've got a hercules game theatre XP 5.1 heh, but I am not using it b/c it's too hard to use when the computer is out of the case. I have to have it in a case for it to not fall out of the PCI slot! :P

I'm wondering what mp's are avalible when I put in a XP2400+. I'm building a system for a friend of me and was planning on letting it run at 11.5x180. But I'm sure he doens't want to unlock his cpu. My abit KD-7 gives me al the mp's.

without crossing the 5th L3 bridge, only 15X is avaiable on the Asus, and all "supposedly" on the Epox

mine does 200 also, stably

it's with an xp2600 on air (backuprig) with an slk800 standard fan.

12.5*200 is what it's at, so a nice 2.5 ghz

i can p95 for 72 hours on 200 and 204 in dual mode

but i get vid tearing in 3d apps

at 200 and 204 single mode no tearing and still stable So far i think ive tried everything

Hey Sys, I now OC'd the Radeon with powerstrip to 391/341 and my 3dMark score jumped (198x11 5-2-2-2) from 16,315 to 17,773 but it won't let me publish this higher score for some reason....do you know why?

Have you tried saving the results to your hard drive, closing 3DM2K1, re-opening it, then going to "submit saved results" from the menu on the top? Sometimes that will fix it.

deluxe vs non deluxe that is here the question?
Also are the IRQ's manually assignable in the bios on this board?
I need to know? overclocking capabillity that is? the deluxe version has some cool features I might want to take advantage of :)
think the deluxe version will be able to handle 200 fsb with xms pc 3500 c2 and pny ti 4200 64 mb and xp 2400 unlocked 10.0 or 10.5 multi? Let me know folks:)

I haven't played w/ any of the PCI settings or IRQ settings in the bios myself (no need). I am pretty sure each board is the same performance wise. I've only used the Deluxe version myself.

If you want the extra features I'd say go w/ the Deluxe, if not, then get the regular. The voltage mods work on both boards I believe... the CPU voltage regulator is just in a slightly different position. :cool:

Whats the difference between the deluxe and non-deluxe? if the deluxe is no use to me, i might as well save a few extra dollars

non-Deluxe uses the MCP, Deluxe uses MCP-T. Main differences are no dual LAN, no Firewire and no SoundStorm (only AC97 audio). S-ATA is only on Deluxe. The software bundle only comes with Deluxe too, I think.

Thx for links! For some reason, i only saw 1 page for the a7n8x at the asus website, so i couldn't tell what came with what! this clears up the difference!

No dice. What's the damn fun if I can't show off my result? LOL!

But eventually I figured out that what was screwing it up is a checkbox on Powerstrip that says "Disable support for driver options" that I had checked (mainly cause I still don't know what the hell I'm doing here!)

I was able to get this one published with 197x11 & radeon OC'd at 385/355 with a score of 17,639

The Chaintech has configurable IRQ settings. :D Bummer that the Asus does not. Tomshardware did a review on an older rev mobo, but look at the bios version. Seems odd.:confused:

this is my first post, apparently, and this is the topic that brought me here.

im planning on doing the volt mod tomorrow as well as installing my mcx-462+t pelt.

this pelt is going to be air cooled with a LOUD vantec tornado 80mm fan.........

question is, and i hope someone can help, but with the dedicated meanwell 300w p/s that kicks out 25amp of the 12v will be a lot of power for it, but.... doing the voltage mod with the cpu at 2v and ddr at 3v how much can i really get out of my processor. right now it is maxed out at 12x185 highest voltages on everything on the a7n8x.

also would running an active (vantec iceberg nb and sb cooler) be of any benefit?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that you should be ok with your setup but you will probably wanna add heatsinks to the large mosfets and possibly an 80mm fan over that heatsink and the northbridge as both get pretty toasty. A small heatsink on the southbridge might be a good idea too if you feel it's getting hot enough for it (50C).

the northbridge is going to have an active hsf. its fairly small but runs at 6000 rpm. it kept the nb on my gigabyte board fairly cool. should that be sufficient or should i just remove the pink poo, add as3, put the hs back on and just add a fan on top of that?

but let me thank you for being the only person ive seen do a volt mod on this board. ive already ruined one board trying to install the damn pelt(user error) so hopefully ill practice my technique on that one and move to the working one.

Not a prob! You might just wanna use regular thermal spooge as I like to call it... the white silicone stuff for the chipset. What you're saying sounds good w/ the fan on it. Good luck w/ the OC'ing! :toast:
