i think it has more to do with the screwed up a64 dividers than a actual performance hit. Since you unlocked guys really never have to run async to get the most of your chips 1:1 is going to be the best since you can run fairly low HTT(230~250) and still the chips potential out. The 3500+ guys are going to have to crank up some high htt(250+) unless you only have cooling for 2700 mhz +/-. The rub here lies in this divider system that factors off your multiplier. so say 250x11. unless you have memory that can do 250 your stuck with about 210. 3800+ and FX owners will be able to run 230x12 or 240x11.5 to get the same speed but since you dont have to muck around with a divider there's no penalty.
thats all just a guess tho

Can we all agree THIS is it? Set to 50K ohms and work DOWN to increase Vdimm?? Is the Vdimm from 3.3v rail?? Anybody got a 3.3v mod for a ttgi 520W PSU?? This thing won't really SING until someone sticks 3.8V through some BH-5 and goes for 12 x 260-270 on DI or Phase Change, 1:1, 2-2-2......
That's my take on the vdimm charlie and that's also my take on the measuring point. I won't be able to test it until tomorrow, but I'll let you know as soon as I give it a try.
That is where I read the 2.6v I had set and the 3.1v I VR'ed to that loaction before I smelled burning silicon. I think what happen is I shorted the read point to something. I'm gonna try again tonoght using a smaller read point grabber and a 50k instead of a 20k vr.

The 939 stuff is less of an improvement over the 940 than the 940 is over the 754.
For those of you who waited for the 939 pin stuff, I hope it was worth it. Some how I don't believe it is the holy grail you were expecting though, so I expect you'll be waiting still.
939 pin stuff is very nice but it is very much more of the same A64 stuff. If what I am saying is untrue we will know soon enough, but what the 939 gains in non-reg DDR it loses in cache.:(

2) Ability to run "normal" DDR.......................CHECK
3) Functioning PCI/AGP locks.........................CHECK
Noone ever said it was as significant as A64 vs. Athlon XP....
I ASSURE everyone that as soon as someone puts a fx53/a8v under ice and overvolts the Vdimm and Vcore....it will beat up on the FX53/940 which was already the world's fastest combo...
Now if you guys are really looking for something revolutionary....
Yeah, maybe wait for San Diego/Winchester @ .09nM but right now if you're in this for benching, FX/939/A8V is the only way to go.
However, if anyone out there is considering the FX/939/A8V to REPLACE their FX/SK8V as a 24/7 GAMING/Internet rig.....I'd say you're crazy....
Yes, it's just you. j/k ;) It depends on what you were expecting. In my case, the move from 940 FX51 to 939 FX53 was well worth it. I can now run at 2-2-2-5, something I wasn't able to do before. Also, the upgrade path for 939 is going to be a lot better than 940. For example, I doubt Asus will release another BIOS for the SK8V. Could be wrong. And one other thing needs to be clarified. The 939 FX did not lose any cache. Other models did.Quote:

Well, I just pushed the "ORDER" button @ newegg.com so I'll have CPU on Thursday.... unfortunately, I couldn't get retail so I have no HS/F.... and a short warranty. Well, wish I hadn't returned my x800pro. But even without that, I've was able to get 2.94G at a low 1.8v, 235 fsb at 2.8v vdimm, and a 1k increase in 2001se over my 3400+.
Hopefully the board I get tomorrow will have functioning locks. I have some bh-5 that has done 280 at 3.63v on a K8Npro and was able to bench Sandra at 271 at 3.65v on an AI7. If the locks are working I should be able to get some pretty high 1/1 fsb. If not I'll be looking forward to the first Nvidia 939 board.

I can run a much higher HTT, but performance drops. Like someone said above, it's just better to max out using 1:1 with the tightest possible timings. Running higher HTT and then scaling back the memory and/or Hypertransport speed gains nothing.

Those who waited for 939 are getting THE fastest hardware available as of today as well as the benefits Charlie noted above. Not too mention a longer upgrade path. If a better CPU or mobo comes along, it'll be much easier to mix and match components with 939 pin mobos and CPUs as well as non reg ram many folks already have laying around.
I don't think anyone thought 939 was gonna be a holy grail or anything:confused: More like just a smarter time to buy:)
Don't worry Charlie, when someone else besides myself who has the time, extreme cooling and volt mods done come along, this combo will own everything else. It's just a matter of time. I just do not have the luxury of time I used to have a few years ago when I could get everything cranked up in a few days time:)
I'm far from done working this kit, though. I think the others on the thread have headroom too.

I'm guessing it will be some time before the 939 dominates the top spots as the current A64s have. Sure Macci, OPP and a few others will be benching them fairly soon, but there will still be plenty of P4EEs and 754/940 pin A64s as well.
I'll be happy with 30k on air. Almost there too with my first 3700+ bench with the replacement CPU.

For some reason my board won'y post when I set the vdim mod above 2.875v. Almost seems like it has a governor on it, and this is with a couple different types of ram incl BH5's that I know can take the voltage. Can't explain it unless something else is getting effected by the boost in voltage. Very odd. Same thing happened on the first board. On the good side, the board overvolts vdim by about .5v, so 2.8 = around 2.85 with no mod. (BFD right?) :rolleyes:Quote:
