@jimwah my mate... noticed I'm flying at stats with some orange, second highest ppd/24avg at team :fact: You're not going to overtake me "soon enough"... you go and spread machines... too much;) J/k again... almost every dcing is worthy... but you know how biased I am :D (and grazy:rofl: )

@sparkyJJO... if you would know what kind of crap machines I'm folding with you'd be suprised... so every piece of equipment is not for looking down. Grab it and fire it up. Well that goes for every folder at team 36362:guitar:

Yeah I might just fire up that old VIA 650MHz CPU, at least it could work on some of those small WU's until I get a faster functional s370 intel CPU. I got a 900MHz P3 for it but the CPU is apparently bad, it won't POST :(

After all, I gotta keep crunching more and more if I want to keep a few certain members here from passing me :banana:

I realized I have -advmethods flag AND BigWUs set on my 750MHz P3 :eek: It got a work unit over a week ago and is still working on it with about 10 days left :rolleyes: It'll complete well before the preferred deadline (November sometime) but still it doesn't do much for my PPD

Maybe my mum doesn't need my old old p4s8sx/p4 2.53 after all ;) (Sitting in a box of parts waiting to be put back together)

I knew that VIA CPU's were slow but I guess this explains why. No L2 cache! I don't know how they can claim it is comparable in performance to an intel 1GHz. Outright lie I tell you :slap:

I thought maybe this CPU could do some small WUs but without any L2 cache is it even possible? :confused:
Maybe I'll put win98 on this system and use it for a DOS box for old PC games... Heck I don't even know if this CPU could do that :p:

I'm tempted to say... forget that Samuel LOL...
...maybe it's good playing Solitaire and other games that comes with windows.

Thanks Mate! But even diligently keeping an eye out for new posts about the issue, I've noticed today that I missed a few ;)

BTW Folding will reduce this weekend, I have a heap of new toys and mods to do on all three machines!!! :woot:

I don't think I'll even use it for a DOS box actually, the onboard video sucks to the point that there is some aweful noise in the video, like a TV channel not tuned in right or something.... ick

Maybe I'll look for a whole different mobo/CPU combo for it. Maybe :bsod: the old parts, or run that CPU with no HSF and see if it :smoke: somehow I doubt that it has any thermal protection on it if it doesn't even have L2 cache :lol2:

Good work helping with the port problems GAM, glad the 16080 has gone now; let us konw how the modding goes ;)

@SparkyJJO that Samuel does look pretty weak :p: I rarely say it but...that CPU is useless! I'd ship you some of my socket 370 kit if it wouldn't cost me more than its worth, I've got ~2gig of PC133 & about 5ghz of old chips sat around here!

I'd be interested to see if the via even gets hot enough to toast itself, or if it has thermal protection of any kind - doubt it. Have fun torturing it :D

dang it, fold3 is down, I just got it up a couple days ago too :( Been running fine then all of a sudden today it froze twice and rebooted once. I think it may be the generic PSU in there but I can't test it until after the weekend (to borrow a DMM from school's lab).
Software sensors are crap, they read +12V @ 4V, +5V @ 2V - you get the idea. Temp sensors I don't know if they are accurate at all, the CPU one maxes out at about 48-49*C but the mobo sensor is all over the place, 58*C one second 23*C the next and anywhere in between.

Running SP2004 right now, I reseated RAM and power on the mobo, if it tests out I'll reactivate F@H but until then it makes no sense to keep crashing it.

I havent done any folding before but I was reading about it and I would like to get involved.

Still upgrading my current pc but right now its running a presler @ 3.9. would it help the team if I joined?

I am not sure how often I could keep it running but I am guessing something around 8 to 10 hours a day.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome! I have it running for team 36362 but I still need to figure out how to run two instances of it.

I will do as you suggest and keep the settings at default for now.

One question that I have.. Is it possible to do a local network with the rest of my pcs just for folding? like just get a hub to share my connection (I dont have a router), and send the information locally to each other... then have just one pc send it over the internet? I can add 2 more pcs to this (and a g5 if they have folding on macs:confused:)

would it work?

and on a really happy side note... the E6800x I ordered has just arrived today! now I just need to wait for a few more parts and the team gets a new conroe!

Good news :) I tore down and rebuilt fold3 and cleaned a whole bunch of junk off the IHS and heatsink. I got a ton of this dark gray gunk off and the sink and IHS got all nice and shiny again. After putting it all back together it has been priming for the past 2 1/2 hours no problems so far! This is good, yesterday it wouldn't even make it half that long.

Hopefully we'll be back up and running again soon :woot:

@ GAM: Should be ahead of you at the next update. :) My recent points have been ALL E6600... got 3 or 4 p1495's to help me out.

@ hoax: Welcome to the team! In order to run two instances, you will need to be running the console version of the program and not the one with the fancy spinning balls. If you have the GUI version installed, I recommend uninstalling it first. Then make a couple of folders somewhere, such as Folding@Home1 and Folding@Home2... download the console version of the client (Windows XP/NT/2000 No Nonsense version) and put a copy of the .exe in each of the folders.

Next go to Start, Run, and type in the path to the first .exe (For example, "C:\Program Files\Folding@Home1\FAH504-Console.exe") and append these two options afterwards: -local and -configonly. So, it will look like this: C:\Program Files\Folding@Home1\FAH504-Console.exe -local -configonly Press enter and the program will run, and it wil allow you to configure. Type in username and press Enter, team 36362 and press enter, etc. After you are done configuing, the program will exit. Run the program again, except without the -configonly option, and the program should start crunching. Repeat these exact same steps for the other copy of the client, and you should be good to go.

As for the local network... if you would like to run more PCs (Which would be awesome :) ) I recommend picking up a cheap router: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124001 Or if your computers are spread out a wireless router instead. This is the only way as far as I know that you will be able to share your connection and do folding on all your machines.

As for the G5, yes they do have a folding program for OS X... its at the bottom of the downloads page here. If you have a dual G5 or whatever, I recommend downloading the console version and following the same steps as above to get the most out of your G5.
