I agree. When I was buying RAM I was surprised that many of the OCZ Reapers with all the fancy cooling was using a lot more juice to hit tight timings compared to their platinum which was pretty much the same price.
I went with the low voltage of course and couldnt be happier. :-)
How much are those DIMMS? I am looking at getting the 955 and 2x2GB DDR3.Quote:

I think for compatibility reasons you guys should stick with the low profile heatspreaders....I can fit this ram under my true 120 and xigamatek without having to remove the heatsink........
We won't talk about what I had to go through with another ( we won't say names ) manufacturers "high" performance ram.........that apparently wasn't to compatible with the outer banks......
Slappa I think I was using +.275 for that screenshot.....It realy depends on cooling capacity and the chip though. I would highly reccomend for now using the F3L bios and disabling bank interleaving.....There will be a small performance hit but alot less aggravation.....the above was done with bank interleaving on but it took me quite some time to find the sweet spot....with bank interleaving off it will be far easier....
I will put some settings up once I am happy with them and feel they are consistent/reliable.

All right in an effort to help you guys out despite the fact that I really don't have the time to be fooling around with prime stabilty on a "benching rig" I decided to pop up something that should be fairly easy to acchieve........
Forget the 4gig OC I did. I did it with NB underclocked to keep the heat down etc not geared for performance. Can you bench at 4gig with NB up yes.......can you Prime? I highly doubt it, not on air....

Bios setting for those using this ram, a 955BE and this board......... (these settings are geared towards this ram, and this board.......They are most likely not going to work with other ram)
There is room for improvement, working on tighter settings now.......As always vcore and or CPUNB vid will vary depending on CPU......

Last but not least.
For this particular ram dimms 1 and 2 will offer you the best performance/clocks, I will be tweaking them further in the next day or so but unfortunately from this point on the tweaking will be of no help to 90% of you......Drive strength tweaking tends to have individuality, not only what the user is going for but the individual cpu/motherboard and ram will really determine the best drive strengths to use.....
Trying to get Tony to post up a How To Tune Drive Strengths sticky as he can explain how to do this better than I can.......Be patient he is a very busy guy and has his plate more than full at present time.....
Also would like to note that bank interleaving off has a side effect/performance hit.......unfortunately the gigabyte needs more work in the ram department. I will be getting on there case to address these issues ASAP as shutting bank interleaving off is just a bandaid......However for now it will save alot of you headaches if you shut it off.
After thinking it over. I think I am going to RMA the 790x for the FX version. It seems stable and pretty straight forward. Would anyone say otherwise?
Chew what bios is that am using F3L and it doesnt look like that and thats the latest!
Well my guess is that the 955 BE unlocks some of these options ;) It's F3L off gigabytes website. As I stated.........my settings will help those with a 955BE............using these settings for chips other than 955 BE won't do much good........the IMC revision is not the same.....For future reference you can look at my cpu-z screenshots.........I include them almost always for a reason...the mainboard tab ID's what board and what bios I am using.....
In fact I know for a fact these settings will not work, 720 BE's require far more voltage.

I am a little worried about the cpu-voltage. Do you guys think, is it too much for 24/7? Temps idles around the 30s and never above 50C on full load.
Also, thanks to Chew, I found the solution for my random freeze ups. It was memory voltage and needed to be higher. Glad it is not problem anymore!
On average with air cooling, you will have about 200MHz more headroom with Vista 32 over Vista 64 at like settings once you hit the 3.7~3.8GHz range. On good water, the difference is about 300MHz between operating systems and on LN2, oh about 2.1GHz. ;) Right around the 3.95GHz range with Vista 64 or Win7 64, you will hit a clocking wall. So far today, we finally hit 4.3GHz stable on V64 with LN2, exact same settings on V32 got us 6.4GHz.Quote:
