EVGA 8800GT $229  http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5434329
GTS @ 648/1620/2000 is pretty much a stock GTX ...
the only problem with GT is running out of that mere 512MB VRAM for Crysis @ 1680x1050 16AF no AA i was getting ~470MB ... after about 30 min .... most of the games dont use that much vram ... even at 1920x1080 4xAA ... such as bioshock , COH, WIC .... UT 3 demo
these pix sum up VRAM vs performance:
Attachment 66472
Attachment 66473
Attachment 66474
when no AA, MSI GT @ 650 is pretty much a stock GTX,
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...nce/page16.asp
but when AA is on .. ie. VRAM usage creeps near 512MB it starts to slow down ...
not that matter tho .. ill prolly run crysis @ very high 1680x1050 no AA 16AF ... with GT SLI.. maybe 2XAA ... maybe its ok to go 50MB over the limit , without slowdown , due to the high bandwidth?

$363 aud...
Absolutely. Most games haven't topped 400 for me at 1920x1200 full FF/AF. Tho I have managed a whopping 865 in Oblivion after 1 hour at only 2x/8x thanks to all the high res texture mods + other mods such as Natural Environments, Martigens Monster etc etc. So it's possible...
^ yeah
just notice that vr zone's review has something weird
http://vr-zone.com/articles/Nvidia_G...ew/5369-1.html
notes that "Memory bandwidth (GB/s)" row, it should have been pixel fill rate right?? i mean GTS = 500MHz x 20 ROP ( orvertex processors) = 10 Giga-pixels/sec
interestingly GT has 28 TMU or pixel processors , and 16 ROP, vs GTS 24 TMU, 20 ROP, vs GTX's 32 TMU, 24 ROP ... maybe this means less VRAM usage for textures?? we'll see..
Why aren't there any reviewers encorporating cards everyone has at home - the 7xxx and X19xx series
I want to see how 8800gt compares to an x1950xtx and 7900gtx
-is that too much to ask for?
AT to the rescue:
8800 GT vs. 7950 GT and 1950 XTXoutpost.comista tilattu eVGA:n perus-8800GT kustantaisi 195e/kortti ALVin kanssa (160e ilman) + rahdit jotka olisi jotain tyyliin 50-60 taalaa eli 35-40e.
;)
Yeah. I will wait 2 weeks and then consider buying one. Wait for MSY and i'm sure the prices will go down. If not, i'm going to buy it off Amazon. I've bought my medicine textbooks (weigh a ton) from them deleivered and it wasn't expensive. Esp now with the AUB being $.91. The price say $230 USD works out approx 300 AUB delivered and it's prob going to be $280.
yeah... me too i see inno3d at umart for $335aud... now preorder...so when lots of cards come hopefully <~300aud. :)
Do you think you'll go for the Innovision Adam?
From the reviews I've seen many of the cards will hit 700core/2000memory so just wondering if it's worth getting the EVGA KO (675/1950) for that peace of mind not having to worry about overclocking. I'm building a system for a friend at the moment and he doesn't know which card to go for. Roughly $40 difference between the stock Inno vs the EVGA KO at ITS-Direct.
depends how much you value that 40 dollars.
if these chips are anything like the other 8800 chips, they will all clock fairly similarly(pot luck). i did look at the ko at itestate and almost pressed the buy button...:)
if it had been at a local store i would have...umart at milton in brisvegas lets me pick it up in person and i save on cartage.
itestate are asking 33 bucks for delivery!
evry dollar counts in this so called "mid-range performance" category imo.
its-direct..:
http://www.itsdirect.com.au/
so the ko is 35aud more  i dont know what the ko's shaders are clocked at.
Yay, ncix shipped last night and it will arrive here on thursday.
Outpost charges tax unfortunately, so throw an additional $20 or so for me on that
The 2 questions I have, why have the benchmarks of sli performance been so dismal at lower resolutions? This is odd.. I wonder if they didn't setup the control panel correctly. This is why I would like to see more users get a hold of this card instead of the review sites.
I will be popping off the G80 bracket and using the standard mcw60 bracket on this along with ramsinks for the memory. What else needs to be cooled on this board? Where are the vregs located, is there an i/o chip? What is that thing that looks like it has a plastic cover on it.
I'm psyched to try this out and maybe pitch a few extra dollars and step up to the gts version... maybe :D
It is possible there will be a 1GB version of 8800GT available soon enough since Qimonda has a 1024Mbit GDDR3 chip in their selection. AIBs only need to slap the bigger chips in and do a minor rewrite in the BIOS to make it work...
One might want to wait until this happens... Sure, the 512MB board is a great deal but an option for 1GB would be really interesting for those with bigger screens.

The fan is very whinny at 100%
louder than all the gts/gtx/ultra and reminds of hd2900xt running around 80-90% fan speed
@cstkl1
What was your max GPU temp?
Thank
Cool. I think i'll buy a stock and OC myself. Depends really on the price of an OC though..
Need help for plotting the voltage mods:

People with a 8800GT and a multimeter needed.
glad to see that reports was saying it to be hot because of low fan speed.
66°C with the crappy stock cooler isn't that bad, results should be good on wc, looking forward to see some.
