This is an 'old' thread and it was made before the rev2 and the new crush chipset was out. SO as i said before do it only if you have a rev1.2 or older otherwise keep your chip the way it is

PC Ice - what was it you were saying about enabling 8-bit mode? Thx.
This just a bridge mod - or can it be done via the pins as well?
putting a wire connecting pins, or a wire connecting sockets would work best. These last few questions were all answere in this thread...just go back a few pages.
HE's talking about the 8bit mode. I honestly don't know if it can be done by the pin.Quote:

gouda i'll soon sum up the thread in the first post but give me some time, it's coming soon
that is a very good idea. 8-bit mode can be done with the pins...go back a few pages and you will find a pic...i think it is pretty far back now. It was right when i started posting here...maybe 4 or 5 back i think?
It sounds cosmetic only, i.e. just gives you the options in the bios - with no real overclocking purpose. If this is true then its not for me, especially as I used the socket method rather than bridges.
i think it is just something that is neat...doesn't yield additional preformance. I am gonna do it...it is only 1 more piece...not a big deal for me when the proc is already off.
I personally get just excited when I find a funny mistake or quirk in my comp as i am when i game 1 or 2 fsb. 8bit mode seems realy funny...i can't wait to see it.Quote:

i like looking in my bio's to see lot's of option's that i can use and when i set it to 3200+ i would say that's performance.it's no longer @ 2100 and i only had to select it in the bio;s quick and easy.
and what's up gouda96...im going to hook you up with a good one ok. im testing more this weekend....and will set up paypal.
Sound great ice, keep me posted :D...i am salavating just thinking about it:slobber:

Look at my message the date it was posted.
what's the date on that?
That message was posted long before I got temp banned.
Digging up someone's old message isn't really necessary..
What's worse is that what does someone getting banned has anything to do with the CPU L12 modding. I just don't see the relation here.
The key word in this case, is unrelated topic discussion.
Follow the thread topic. Keep it clean and stay with the subject.
this is a good advice, really..
Don't know how well known this is, but HighSpeedPC sells a great unlocking kit for Athlon XPs. Here's the link:

Gonna try the mod tonight on my week 19 1700+, probably on both L12 and L3. Looking at the pics that people have posted, this mod HAS to be easier than painting the five L1 bridges of the old Athlons!
I was wrong...it's not easier. Tried twice to connect the bridges without success. I'll probably try again tomorrow.
........was able to use this trick when turning my 2500 into a 133cpu and a 200cpu. Testing a 2400 now, but cannot tell if the 166cpu mod worked. All I see is user defined in the d1.7 bios and nothing else. Can anyone confirm that that is what a successful one looks like?.................
............Thks for your help.............
It ain't that great cause the paint stay liquid and after a few weeks it goes off.Quote:

It's actually not paint but grease that does stay gooey, but it comes off very easily if you make a mistake. Also, I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say it "goes off" after a few weeks. I've had my 1600+ modded for several months without incident.
I killed my 1600+ using it. Actually the paint went down and didn't covered the bridges anymore, when i wanted to redo it i made a mistake and the 1600+ never worked again :(
I finaly got around to putting a 2500+ in my rig, up from a 1700+@2500mhz, at first i couldn't run the chip at 200fsb in my NF7-S 1.2 . It is now running great at 200fsb and will be going for more, I did the L12 mod to bring it back to a 133fsb default and it is working wonders. Thanks to all the great info you guys contributed to the Xtreme I am now a happy camper.
I did the mod but I wasn't getting any peformance boosts from it.... untill i tried bios D10 on my NF7.
+15Mhz FSB just like that. :)
hey guys.. whats the easiest way to make my 133mhz 1700 a 166mhz? anyone got some pics of this telephone wire trick? im a visual person, lol..
(sorry if its been said previously in this thread, but it would take too long to go though all 17 pages of this thread)
There was some pics in the beggining of the thread, just scroll back and you'll find the page (around page 4-5 i think)
I will sum up the whole thread in the first post but i jsut started uni again jsut give some time
so is that gold thing there the wires? im still kinda confused.. picture is vague. :(Quote:
No the gold thing is some conductive paint but the wire method is the same thing but you don't use paint but a small wire to connect those two pins
(i swear there was a pic in the topic but i can't find it anymore)
so with the wire u actually "plug" it in 2 holes in your cpu socket on your motherboard right?
