2GB OCZ PC4000 EL @ 290x10. Note here its borderline stable. I was overheating about the tenth round. But I have a special window AC for benchmarking. Turned it on and it ran just fine. Did not help for 295Mhz but thats not really processor stable (core2) so it might not be the memory. Also I did not try 2T. More testing when the phase change for the CPU gets here. Deadly combination of phase change and AC unit for the rest of the PC :D

Someone can help me?
I can't get my Ballistix 2x1Gb stable @ 270 1:1 1T
My spec:
Opteron 175 0550 UPMW
DFI Expert 12/07/2005 Bios
I have tried many settings and voltages:
Stangely, seems that relax the timings does not help at all, instead the modules are more stable with tight timings! (3-3-3-8 works better than 3-4-4-8)
Another odd thing is that when i raise the voltage a bit the module are MORE unstable than with previous voltage BUT if i add a little more i regain more stability
Ex: I start with 2,63 V: the system boot but MemTest show errors---> then I raise up to 2,69 and the system crash(!!!)...then i raise to 2,74 and the system go as 2,63 ---> it seems like these DRAM have "sweet fix voltages" and setting anything between one and the next, go wrong!
By default the BIOS set Tref @ 3120 (200/15,6), i have tried many others with no good result (200/3,9 - 166/3,9 - 166/1,95...)
Both Idle Cycle @ 16 and 256 tried and even relaxing Max Async and Read Preamble not help
I have tried 5 / 1 Drive-Data stenght also, no result
The best achieved so far is with this setting:
TCL 3
TRC 12
TRFC 24
TRCD 3
TRRD 3
TRAS 8
TRP 3
TWR 3
TWTR 2
TRTW 3
TREF 3120 (200/15,6)
TWCL 1
DQS SCREW MODE Auto (Off)
" " VALUE 0
R/W QUEUE BYPASS 16x
BYPASS MAX 7x
MAX ASYNC 8
READ PREAMBLE 6
IDLE CYCLE LIMIT 256
DYNAMIC COUNTER Disable
DRIVE STRENGHT Auto
DATA STRENGHT Auto
32 BYTE GRANULARITY Disable
A64 Tweaker show that Mem Clock 2&3 are DISABLED but i have seen in many picture posted that all four Mem Clock are usually enabled...what this mean?
My system boot and pass MemTest (800 MB) for 3 cycles (300%) but around 350% errors shows up :(
All this with 2,77 Volts...with less the system crash
My CPU is setted @ 9x and 1,4 V just to make sure this mess isn't related to processor, the LDT/FSB is 2,5x: raise Chipset & LDT voltage does not help
Any idea would be VERY APPRECIATED

What drive/data are you all using for your ballistix? I can't seem to get mine stable at 280  I narrowed it down to 2 errors in Test 5 on Memtest.. lol (with auto drive/data, Weak Something / Lvl 1 <- says everest)
I put eveything on auto and got up to 295.
First, I would always test each stick individually. Remember, you will always be limited to the weakest one.
Is this post OK ??, it seems to have been overlooked, I sent a PM too :) http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1294

Your setting is very similar to my best one, so i have some question!
1) What Drive & Data Strenght you set? If i leave it to Auto, the Bios set something Weak but very unstable...my best so far is 7 (Drive) / 4 (Data)
2) What Voltage you set IN BIOS? I have seen MBM report 2.83, but the real one in BIOS?
3) My mobo is the DFI Expert 12/07/2005 Bios...by the way i have seen that the great majority of Ballistix user's have ALL FOUR MEM CLK ENABLED (---> see A64 Tweaker!) but mine show that only Mem Clk 0/1 are enabled...maybe is this related to my Expert mobo?
Thanks for the replies! :)
yes, this is great. thx :toast:Quote:

Since I'll be sending them both back, I decided to crank up the volts and go for some nice pi runs, but they won't even do 300MHz with 3v :( I was hoping for like 305MHz. Would be nice to see some ram competing with ballistix up near the top, it is dominating. I decided to shy away from it because of the latest problems. Playing with some G.Skill HZ which seems to be pretty popular.
Sorry if you've already answered this but why do you cover up your a64 tweaker settings? I'm sure other members with the same ram would like to give them a try.Quote:

Due to the stability issues with Ballistix (heard that they stopped selling them) I cant really recommend them unless you are willing to RMA them if they are bad (also make sure that the warranty period covers atleast 3 months)

this is the best i could get out of them at 3-3-2-7. i actually shaved about 40 seconds off the 32M time but couldn't get A64 Tweaker to cooperate with the tweaked settings. this kit does more with looser timings but the performance doesn't really warrant it for the most part.
as ozzi has above, i shall provide some eye candy of the sticks in question:

CPU is a CCBWE 0544 XPMW, default voltage 1.395. At stock voltage it will do 2.65 GHz, takes over 1.5v to get 2.7 GHz. Because my PC is upstairs in a warm room I am sticking at 2.65v, going to 2.7 GHz is just to warm for my poor TTBT with stock fan. Since I cannot get these sticks 3D stable at >259 MHz I am running a 10/11 divider for effective 241 MHz mem speed. According to Sandra and Everest I am seeing slightly better read and write performance at these speeds and settings than I got with my Ballistix @ 265 MHz 1:1 3-3-3-8, but slightly higher latency. This was first try at tight timings, I think I may have a bit more to shave off tRC, tRFC, Async Latency, and Read preamble, but not much
