Have you got a Winchester to test it with :confused:Quote:

@ aussie7, I'm testing Beta19 with a Winchester (has an excellent memory controller, 320HTT+)
If anyone finds a later beta gimme a shout an ill get right on it.
Are you saying if I updated BIOS through Flashmenu that was no good? Seems to be working fine...Quote:

crystal clear bios update...
dos...fully erase forced...
but... as I said...the 1T issue's still here.
tried a winnie some minutes ago...bugged still :(
what about the timings i found to work? its still very picky, but 1T does work, so far i found 2 sets of timings to work.
What timings are you talking about? could you be more specific.Quote:

I would attach the Beta19 BIOS, but the file limit is insanely teeny here for zip files.
In case noone noticed, BIOS19 is now officially out.
If anyone's interested in a modded BIOS with all disabled features reenabled, let me know and I'll post it here.
OK, my modded BIOS can be downloaded here (modded BIOS AN8_19, changelog included):
http://people.freenet.de/celemine1Gig/BIOS/OAN819M.zip
or here:
http://www.fh-augsburg.de/~madocer/BIOS/OAN819M.zip
This BIOS has been tested on forumdeluxx.de and it works fine according to testers there.
Although I have got to state the following:
Use this BIOS at your own risk! I am not responsible for any problems or damage caused by this software.
^nice to finally have a new modded bios to test :) and for thoughs wondering, i tested official19, there doesnt appear to be any change in the now primary concerns of making 1T scale well and improving compatability with G-skill, OCZ and GeIL enthusiast level RAM. see above link to read the newest page on my artical.
I tried my Winnie also.Quote:

Seems like 4x512MB works a bit better now.. before i couldn't even run stock settings at any voltage.. now my BH-5 does at least 220FSB with 2.0-2-2-6 timings.. hopefully next bios will be better, cus even that it is better now than before - it still ain't enough..
hopefully a bios20 will come around, abit can easily sort the remaining issues out in a single revision. im testing celemine1Gig's modded bios atm, will let you all know how it goes, me and him are also currently contemplating doing something if its possible, what that is though im not saying yet ;)
Appreciate the modded BIOS 19 celemine1Gig, finally I am now able to use one of the latest BIOS without losing my boot options. I am in the process of testing for the better memory compatibility now (versus modded bios 13) and hopefully I will have good luck in that regard, but I think I may indeed have one of those "finicky" Venice cores.
I was getting a bit discouraged by the fact that tictac haven't released anything for the AN8 recently and you pop by with exactly what I needed! Thanks again,

Well, Abit are running out of time to impress me, and more importantly, the people I asociate myself with, they have until the end of december to release a BIOS this board deserves, if not, I urge everybody to drop the Fatal1ty like a stone and go buy any other NF4 based mainboard. The clock is ticking Abit.
My patience ran out a while ago with this board, i wont being buying an abit again. I have no money now to go out and buy another board either, so im stuck with this heap until amd comes out with thier new socket.
last i read your bpard was doing good at like 295HTT, what happend?Quote:

I was going to get the AN8 Ultra because of Abit's reputation for quality components. It seems to have gone down as of late, though.
I was going to pair it with this mushkin eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR500 RAM. It's the same as the Redline but not cherry picked. Was also going to get a 3200+ (only $10 difference between this and the 3000+), since it almost impossible to get an Opteron 146 now.
I don't really like the DFI, so should the Abit work with this combo and a 6800GS/7800GT?
I'm probably going to go with this unless someone has other suggestions.
it does do 295 fairly well as long as its 2T as soon as i switch to 1T i get all kinds of issues. Also if i shut the computer down it wont power back up without the cmos being reset. :banana:Quote:

no issues with 1T on mine :)
Just wanted to point out: only 10 more posts 'till this thread reaches 1337. Well, 9, counting mine.
How... monumental.
Well after messing around with the modded bios 19 from celemine1Gig (needed it to access different boot devices on my RAID card), I can't say that I have noticed any improvements over what is possible with the tictac modded bios 13. About the only thing I did notice that was different was that bios 19 increased the Read to Write delay (Ttrw) to 4 regardless of what is it set to in the BIOS menu. I am convinced that A64Tweaker is not simply misreading the value since the results from Everest seem to bare out that bios v19 has lower values than tictac's v13. If I manually set the value back to 2 using A64Tweaker, I again match the previous v13 results. Given that I have noticed slight instability (fails after 7-8hrs stress testing) if I use Ttrw of 2 at high FSBs (290-295), I am theorizing that any added stability by the newer bios may have come from locking this value higher. I don't know if this is simply a glitch that occurs with v19 and my PC4800 TCCD ram or not, but thought it was worth mentioning.
I am getting decent enough results with my ram now that I think I will just give up on any magic bios revision fixing the 1T issue and the minor performance increase from 1T doesn't warrant me buying an entirely new motherboard. I also can't say that I have sworn off all future Abit products, but this experience may bias my opinion towards another manufacturer. That being said, I am still experiencing better luck with this board (aside from the 1T issue) than my previous DFI Ultra-D that would test stable for days using whatever stress test I tried (yeah I tried all from Memtest86+, infinite 3DMark01SE loops, long Prime95 and SuperPi runs, to software tools like S&M and OCCT) and then still randomly crash far more often during actual use than any of the stability tests suggested.
-Malichite
well the fact issues were being fixed in the order i shunned abit for, plus my artical was right under their noses on google, then the fact i dont believe in coincidences to the degree they occurred when i got the artical going, go figure :rolleyes:Quote:

i can hit with my venice 280x10 and my BH5 1T , and for 24/7 i user 255x10 = 2550mhz and 1:1 BH5 255mhz cl2-2-2-5 1T ,and no problems , what kind of issue you gus talk about 1T ???
hi all, just got the an8-sli and have a opteron 165, when I put the 165 in, it doesn't really fire up at all...do I need the latest bios to get the mobo to post, or is this probably a problem with the mobo? I ask because with my epox board it would post without dual core support and then I was able to flash to dual core support, but again the abit board gives me nothing
mascaras, the issue that almost everyone is having with the AN8 is generally occurring at RAM timings above 260Mhz and exhibits itself in random reboots, shutdowns, and other general errors. Many report testing the exact same chip and memory in DFI motherboard and getting around 295-305 Mhz with 1T. I for one can achieve only achieve 1T at around 240-245Mhz with my PC4800 TCCD memory, anything higher and no luck regardless of any timing tweaks, aside from bumping it to 2T.
Doesn't really matter at this point though, while a few have had success with the AN8 the consensus seems to be "buy a different board from another manufacturer if you have TCCD memory unless you want to either run at lower Mhz RAM timings or CMD at 2T". If everything works for you, than be happy and don't mess with it! However for the rest of us with TCCD memory, it is clear that BIOS rev 19 is NOT the "magic bullet" to solve all problems.
-Malichite
the DFI ULTRA-D have the same issue?? my BH5 only do 255mhz but i can do it with 1T , id like to see TCCD in my board to see if i have the 1T issue , at least to 255mhz i can run 1T bit with more i dont know , i bought a opty 144 this week , and i was thinking to buy a TCCD , maybe i have to sell my board and buy the DFI ULTRA-D its better???
I just thought I join the club here:p: . I just tried my first OC with my main rig and I have exact the same issues like most here. I can hit 250HTT but only with 2T and the system isn't stable (crashes in BF2) and I even hit 290 but only with one stick of my memory. I hope Abit comes up soon with a fix or I have to get another NF4 board.
Wow, I can't believe this thread is still going.
Ah crap, I just helped it along, didn't I? :slap:
Hello thread, you're now back to life.
My system won't boot up if:
FSB 280
Mem divider: 366
Cpu 280x8
but will boot up if
fsb 240.. all 1:1
my venice e6 will error out 250x10. seems stable at 240x10 but sometimes errors out when i occt/prime it..... (since i keep rebooting the box to try different settings... i only occt / prime max 30minutes)
is this normal? does e6 really suck to that extent?
im getting an opteron 146, any good feedback on this?
i also got two sticks of ram... my old Mushkin LVL2 PC3500 Gold..
and new PC4000 VX GOLD... man i can never get this ram stable, at 240 it is already trouble, in 10 hour test, ii'd get 1-2 errors.... sometimes alot... its so inconsistent..... how far can this ram go? i thought 250 2-2-2-8.... this just sucks.
also, my mushkin just can't do 1T.... whats up with this? is this the legendary 1t issue?
u r lucky mine wont even hit that high, this board just doesn't like OCZ rams, I have PC4000 Gold VX(1GB) and PC4000 Gold (2GB UCCC), don't even think OCing on 1T; it only runs on 1T on 200MHz. chucking this board somewhere for backup only, no wonder Abit is going bankrupt (if u guys don't know, they have huge debt).
im on dfi eXpert now :) bye bye abit
I have the regular an8 sli and currently i have my winchester 0451 @ 270x9 1.55Vs. Ram is KVR 3-3-3-8 1T on 166divider. Rock stable for me. Gonna try lowering the multi to 8 and htt to 312 and see what happens. Ram divider @ 133 of course. My kvr can't handle anything over 223Mhz.
Wow, this thread is still going
my bad.... :slapass:
1T no go... :nono:
i got 1T going in the end heheheh but at that time i already got a DFI as well hehehQuote:

My first Post:)
I'm using the official 19 Bios, since using mushkin XP Redline 4000 2x1GB (infineon ce-6) i dont have the 1t problem anymore at high fsb (above 250).
Before I tried OCZ Gold 2x512 (Bh5 UTT) and Corsair twinx XLPT (samsung TCCD) 2x512mb. I don't know, maybe the mobo doesnt like tccd or bh5??
Hi guys,
I had some time today, so I modded the new beta BIOS (AN8_20).
You can download the file here:
http://people.freenet.de/celemine1Gig/BIOS/AN820BM.BIN
The changelog is about the same as the one for my modded AN8_19 BIOS. So have a look at that for the changes.
The file is not tested yet(I don't have an AN8), so no guarantee from me. Use the file at your own risk! If it works, that's good, if not then I'm not the one to blame. Keep that in mind. ;)
nice... thx
i have mod this version 20 as well... with preset:
tref timing
DQS strenght
DQS delay
drive strength
my friend said he got 2sec faster in super Pi 2M... he will be using it for competition... will let you know our progress later... wish us luck:banana:
HI tictac, could you send me that bios? I've been having some trouble to oc my G.Skill 2Gb HZ sticks.Quote:

Tic tac long time no see. Where the heck ya been? BTW i tested beta 20 = Reboot with old known good settings while playing BF2....gonna have to start from scratch with memory again..........Not necessarily abit's fault....will do more testing..........Quote:

BIOS release 2.0 for AN8, AN8-V,AN8-3rd Eye, AN8 Ultra, AN8 SLI, Fatal1ty AN8, Fatal1ty AN8 SLI
Release information:
[ENGLISH]
1. Support FX-60
2. Enhanced compatibility with certain USB devices
3. Enhanced compatibility with certain memories.
4. BIOS compiled date: 1/19/2006
Well I read that it appears there was no change between beta and release of BIOS 20. Seems the compile dates are the same, so all that was changed is most likely the showing of bios 20 instead of 00 do not distribute or whatever. Tictac's bios is much better since it has more divider options and a few others. I'm liking it so far
the beta bios 20 finally got my system stable! now i gotta try the modded bios, looks good so far
Hey tictac, what is this hasan2.bin ISA module inside your image ?
btw, loved your fullscreen bitmap ! ;)
Yes !! this Bios for me and national competion overclocking in my country !!
Ok 2more bios for ABIT AN8/AN8 ultra/AN8 SLI/AN8 Fatal1ty/AN8 Fatal1ty SLI
Both bios have DDR300 & DD366 divider enable
1) AN8_20-78us
- with tref @ 200MHz 7.8us
Download LInk: http://forum.abit-usa.com/attachment...chmentid=16398
2) AN8_20-156us
- with tref @ 200MHz 15.6us

You can enable and disable the patch via bios menu... :toast:
As recomended by bigtoe... hope this tref gain you more bandwith :woot:
I wonder which one I should run. I am unfamiliar with what tref exactly is. Also, what is with the whole patch thing you mention? What does it have to do with the onboard LAN controller? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you for the BIOS revisions!Quote:

i would also test lower MAL and RP as they will hurt your performance
i can run them at 7/5 with a few different sticks of RAM at 280MHz HTT so try 7/5, 8/5, 8/6, 9/6..........really don't think you'd need to go past that.......

It's simple a64 tweaker reports incorretcs Tref values.Quote:

Because your memory ratio is set to 166 Mhz the Abit Bios set the Tref to 7.8 us at a frequecy of 166 Mhz and A64 reports it as 3.9 us 166 Mhz.
The problem is that the Tref is not updated by the bios with the HTT change, so if you run let's say your memory at 250 Mhz with a 166 memory divider the refresh rate of your memory will be:
(166/250) * 7.8 us = 5.17 us
that is too low. You need to change the Tref in A64 tweaker.
In this case you should set your Tref to 15.6 us 133 Mhz:
(133/250) * 15.6 = 8.29 us
that is close enough to 7.8 us.
The problem is that A64 tweaker has a wrong mapping of the real Tref values.
I have the right table at home.
I'll post it later.
