ehh, we've known for a while now what the 4850 will look, and the 4870 should look a lot like the 2900xt (more so than the 3870 anyways). At this point, we need benchmarks, not images imo
look all I'm saying is that we still have nothing legit to base our thoughts on, and that's starting to bother me especially since launch is roughly 2 weeks away now. And quite frankly I'd like to try to keep this thread on topic as much as I can, I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to keep a legit discussion on the 4k series cards
Because nothing wants to leak out. We've seen scores but without specs it's really hard to justify any of them.
As I said earlier, this is getting ridiculous, like ATI had a gag order on all the OEMs.
VR-Zone tested the RV770 PRO (4850) and OC'd it to 700 MHz:
http://vr-zone.com/articles/Radeon_H...sted/5829.html
Receieved a Vantage score of P6466
Any idea what other cards score for Performance? I saw 4850 scores P4085 at http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...ance/page9.asp
But that's on a 3.2 Quad
If VR-Zone could only post the CPU results as well, we could make a comparison. I don't know why they didn't include it.
It's not even clear whether there are indeed 480 SPs in RV770.
I think AF was enabled in the benchmarks, no?
http://resources.vr-zone.com//newspi...03/RV770-4.png
A preview of IQ at least
^^
I don't think so, AA was off and so was AAA.
True
I doubt AF was on for the test because Performance mode in 3dmark Vantage is trilinear - it does beat the 3850 by ~50% pretty much by that score though it seems
If Vantage sets Trilinear, wouldn't CCC's AF override it?
CCC always did that for me when I had an 2900XT. I didn't test with Vantage or 06, but for games it does that.
If the benches were done with AF enabled, it would have been specified.
Thing I still wonder is if there's difference in shader and gpu clock this time around, too many rumors suggest either one
Oh man WTH is VR-Zone and all those noob reviewers doing. All application controlled please...
I experienced better AF with a 7600GT than a X1950Pro :yepp:
Its starting to get intersting :)
 Now I´m confused. That sound very intersting thou. Looks like the new Nvidia is going to be a real powerhouse too. I still gonna stick to ATI. I´ll probobly end up buying two 3870:s when the price drops. But it would be really sweet with two 4850..
1GHz DDR3 for the 4850 is better than i thought. 625MHz Stock core clocks are a bit low, but to be expected with the single slotted cooler.
That does mean enormous headroom for overclocking though :). I am definitely going to pick one of these up for some vmodding fun. 60% OC makes for a clean 1GHz :D

We have spotted a RV770PRO demo system over at Computex and we have checked out the settings of the beta Catalyst drivers for RV770 series. The card can be easily overclocked to 700MHz core and as a result, the score for 3DMark Vantage is P6466.
http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Rade...sted/5829.html
According to Fud:
A Radeon HD 4850 card on a Phenom 9850 system clocked at 2.5GHz can score slightly over 5000 in 3Dmark Vantage.

mascaras is the repost guy, you already know him, right? :D
From B3D:

Anyway, I got some updates.
The X4100 number for the GTX 280 was correct with the drivers at the time. Seems that NV was able to push it to X4800 with the latest drivers. They might add some more points when they enable PhysX on their GPU, but that kinda goes against Futuremark rules... since a PPU can assist for a higher score and not a GPU... this could add up to 1000 points in the CPU test... so we'll have to see what Futuremark decides about including the PhysX into the score....
But here's what you all wanted to hear.... According to the same source R700 scores about X5500> in Vantage.
Oh and my buddies at VR-Zone tested a HD4850 OC 700Mhz. P64xx score in Vantage.
meh still, R700 is cf on board which is a nogo for me.
meh back at ya, you have no idea whether or not it will have microstuttering issues etc yet because the bridge was completely redesigned to make the 2 gpus act as 1 rather than just 2 linked through xfire
if the initial results come out and its still just regular ol' xfire on a single pcb, then you can say the gtx 260/280 is more worth the money
Idiotic question. What is the difference between the different prefixes in front of the vantage scores, such as P and X?
"At the Computex you can see gigabyte-packages from HD 4850, GTX 260, 280 and - this is surprised - HD 3950. It is not sure, if this card is an official AMD-product or only a Gigabyte-product"
source;http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=13600
Did AMD rename HD 4850 to HD 3950 and HD 4870 to HD 4850? and has some unknown super card to take the 4870 name?
i chose option 3, but thats just me...
could give a whole new meaning to the term booth babes!:D
AF on HD2900 cards are slightly better than High Quality AF on X1900 cards. It was slightly optimized over X1900's, but still has that 45-degree angle problem.
We've seen those a million times, and they're fake.
either RV770 has more power than all the specs we have been getting or the numbers have been "modified or falsified" performance should be closer to the 3870x2 not above the 9800gx2. i hope im wrong then i can keep an intel board and have a wicked sweet crossfire for pretty cheap but i think even the ATI boys will take a skeptical look at these numbers. also i would expect the HD4850 numbers to show up first considering they are almost ready to be released and GDDR5 is still pretty green.
Those #'s seem to be fake no??
I'm sorry but I don't expect any IQ setting to be "too high" when I go multi-GPU
9800gx2 vs 4870 garafik result fake..
When does the NDA ends for these cards?
17th june
Maybe you could try not being a miser, and grab proper cards instead of something that barely makes out. nVidia's current chips already use a lot of video RAM, 512MB SLi + high res might look good in FRAPS but not be smooth.
3870 on the other hand has terrible fillrate and texture power that X2ing it is equally dumb as the minimum frame will be bad. At least it uses video RAM effectively.
And FYI, you think people like [H] really play the game for smoothness? They just run through a same scene using FRAPs, and see if the framerate dips below 30fps. The 3870X2 did that, the 8800GT SLI combo won't, but frame swapping at 1920*1200 will definitely happen either way.
very short scene of rv770 graphics demo (city, robot) ; realtime

and the vids on rapidshare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120031828/rv770.rar.html
I do own a 8800GT SLI rig and in most games I tested with high settings at 1440*900 and 1680*1050 resolution, there is TERRIBLE micro-stuttering, which gave me perceived FPS's of 30-40 whereas FRAPS was showing 60-70.
SLI sucks, CF sucks, wanna know why? AFR sucks.
Nice to see lots of people confirming SLI/CF sucks
SLI/CF sucks!!!:p:

First 4850 appeared in a shop! Only 179Euro. More expensive than HD3870 at this moment now. Only some benches needed:D
oh, 179€ is quite cheap
cheapest 9800 gtx is selling for 199€ (as far as i know)
now a big oc headroom is needed...
IMHO the rv7xx gaphics demo looks far more impressive than nvidias...
(high res version needed to see details)
Another one:
http://www.electronicagigant.nl/nl/p...i-hd4850,512mb
156 Euro....
now thats sick....
that cards price'll go down in no time, they gotta get rid of the 3870 and 3850 really fast
Too cheap, they're goes anychance of it beating an Ultra
Oh yeah I am just going on what some here have been saying about the HD4850 being faster than top end G80, with those prices I think not..
I didnt read trough most if this because it's 90% time wasting.
Anyway, we will only know when benches come out. I mean, remember that quad 9800X2 beating the super computer bought 3 years ago in Antwerp? Who would have thought GPU's would become this powerfull that quick.
Besides that, the 8800 Ultra is quite old actually. As I said, we'll have to wait for benchies but it's not like impossible.
Taken from itocp:
The room is still wide open for performance #'sQuote:
4850 Vantage P5847, X2609
On the same platform, a 9800GTX does P5816, X2104
If that's any indicator of AA, AF, and 4870 performance... ATI probably has improved a lot on their weaker points but on pure shader math, lesser stuff is done. This probably suggests a much better balanced chip, if slightly better suited for dual GPU usage.
He has a point, but well, as I said, we will only know when real valid benchmarks are around.
I mean, when Intel released their C2D stuff it was a lot faster than AMD CPU's while mainstream CPU's weren't priced that high. Nothing is impossible, but the possible is as impossible:p:.
Oh well, only came around to post the links for the prices thus far. Rest is all speculation, Ill just wait for some real numbers:yepp:.
i was a SLI user, for a while (my first SLI rig dyed this spring), but I've seen to many down-sides to it vs. single, and I've learned the importance of the setup...
crossfire, thow, seems to be beter and beter, and I'm taking it into acount for this generation of chips. it all depends on the market offerings, posibilityes and drivers.
Acctually, thinking about it I think thats quite an intersting comparision, I mean 4850 vs 8800 Gtx /ultra. The 8800 ultra has been here for quite a long while now and is still very competetive. If the 4850 beats it could at last retire, I dont think it will but it would be pretty cool if it did.
AMD shows 4800-series tech demo
Faud how a link to showing ati showing a demo of what the 4800 cards can handle. The video quality of the footage is poor but you get a small idea of what this beast is made off.
Ati 4800 series demo
Fuds link
hehe, I beat them to it.
The fud is no match for real hardware trollers
whats funny is that I have a 4870 graphic demo and a gt260 graphic demo on my youtube.
The views for the 260 were over 6,000 within hours (it's not updated from 2,000 on the public video yet tho)
and the 4870 is still at like 30 views
it's a shame since the ati demo is more impressive

Delayed 5 days to 23 June
http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/37795/135/
Makes sense if true. I never understood why they would launch one card from it's serious on the 18thQuote:
However, it looks like that AMD is using the delay to change its launch strategy. The GDDR5 equipped 4870 will now launch at the same time as the 4850 512MB GDDR3, but it is unclear whether there are enough GDDR5 chips to enable AMD to ship the 4870 in volume right off the bat.
actually the R700 is shorter than the r680 (pic in this thread), has a better cooler and a new bridge chip (PCIe 2.0).
maybe this chip deals with stuttering issues (i recently had a chance to test a hd3870x2 because a friend of mime) because from my experience the normal 3870 CF has much fewer microstutters which appear less often (every 2-10 mins on my rig) and don'T disturb as much as the 3870X2 stutters which are there more often
maybe the X2 really had some sync problems because of the bridge chip, i hope that the 4870X2 deals with the stutters and shuts them out completely, but i don't think that this is going to happen :(
