Who's ready for new years?!?!?
I am. Will be skiing at holiday valley in NY with a bunch of friends, should be fun.
Sounds nice. I've never been skiing.
I'll probably end up either drinking and taking care of my friends so they don't die, lol, or I'll just stay at home, say "whoo-hoo' go to sleep so I can get decent rest for Thursday's workout.
Yay my mobo is back from RMA and gues what ... RMA rejected , reason : UFO in the Socket .... unidentified :banana::banana::banana:ing object ... I blowed it out of the socket in front of the RMA guy and took it home, bought a new pair of RAM's [ 4 GB for 40$ :p: ] and now it's on the desk patched together and I'm testing it ... but still , Asus starts to piss me off pretty well
Anyone in for a booze ?
I'll be skiing on New Year's Eve also. Kind of a tradition now, always a good time.
Looks like they crazy weather is finally over around me. I should be back up to my normal ppd now.
Man, I didn't really notice how large my farm was until I had to move all the hardware. There were 3 PCs in the bedroom, 1 on the bar, 1 on the dining room table and 2 in the living room. And man those 9800 GX2s put out the heat!
It's been cold here. When I moved into the new place it was 43 degrees. It took the so called electric central heat over an hour to get it up to 52 degrees. And much longer to bring the temp up to 70. Overnight with the heat off, the temp dropped to 62. Last night I got two rigs up at midnight. It was 70 when I went to bed and 70 when I woke up. When I got home from work, it was up to 72. I'm back to regulating the temp by opening the sliding glass door for the desired interior temp. :ROTF:
Nice WFO, very nice! :up::up::up:
I'm back with my main rig (water cooling now)...10c cooler and a whole lot quieter\
if only I had a mobo that could do better than 450FSB...this chip is begging for more but the mobo can't keep up :(
is there a user registration page on F@H? cause I can't find it. If so can someone please link it :) trying to get started by installing on all my relatives computers while I'm home for the holidays.
You just put your team number and user name in the configuration. Actually, you could put team 36362 and username MaK2000. I would appreciate it. :yepp::ROTF:
passkey?
wonders.....Could I preload a harddrive with windows and folding (as a service) and give as presents next Christmas???
I just leave the passkey blank... some people use it because it ensures no one else can fold on your name. but I really dont care, if someone wants to fold in my name then YAHOO!, more points for me! LOL!
Well got a couple clients up and running! I can't wait till I get back to my house and get moving on those...I'm not gonna lie I'm a little excited :D
Thanks for contributing!
Thank you!!! :up::up::up:
I don't believe the speed but the screenie is nice. :)

It's a 16MB connection.
Hey MAK...You've been trying to pass me for the last week...and now....OMG what happened?? Your production has plummeted. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not overly concerned - as I was really hoping to make it into the top 10 before you blew my doors off. :D
Had to take a few down for a sec. I am back at full production for the weekend at least. I should be about 40KPD if the WUs permit for the next three days. 14K for the first 9 hours of the day according to EOC.
Just purchased three EVGA GTX 280's prepare yourself to see a huge boost in points :)
Very nice. You should climb the ranks quickly after those kick in.
Here's a target for you.....
It took me 55days from joining to reaching 1mill. That's around 18k ppd you should hit that with those cards and with smp too you can catch up the start days.
Good luck, hope you make it
its going to suck though cause correct me if I am wrong but if I want to fold on them I cannot run them in SLI?
Once I would have said you are definitely right there. but more recently I read that they can be connected , just sli switched off during folding but to be honest I'm not sure of what OS was being used so you will have to try the various combinations. It could be that later drivers have an influence too.
You can have them hooked up in SLI just uncheck the SLI box in the control panel while folding. When gaming, shut off the clients and switch SLI on, when done, turn SLI back off and resume the clients. I think that's how it works anyway, I haven't had any experience with multiple cards in one machine.
My folding clients are mostly 98GX2s. It isn't hard to switch back and forth. I am thinking two 295s for my main rig very soon.
Hey Mak2000 anytime your ready to get rid of those gx2's I'd be more than happy to buy them and keep them on the team ;)
I need faster crunchers ...
Does anyone have any cool graphics for F@H. I'm thinking about tagging one of my cases with some graphics.
I might be able to use that, did you have a larger image size?
Well just bought a EVGA 9800gx2 should be here in a couple days and helping out the team ;)
^^WOOHOO! me too, mine's here tomorrow according to ups.
they're already out again http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e%209800%20GX2
I watched ebay for a while, and they kept going for close to $300. then NE had one model in stock for a couple days and I grabbed it.
I was really thinking I was gonna buy a gtx260 this whole time, but started thinking WTH I dont game, a gx2 will get more ppd.
maybe NE is still bringing them in, you just have to get on the notify list for when they arrive, cuz they go quick. I bought mine Sat and it was gone sun morning.
I paid $262 shipped over @ ebay I couldn't resist I love EVGA.
that's almost identical to what I paid too
Okay I'm about to score another 9800gx2 a Palit. Does anyone see an issue with running two different branded cards? especially in SLI?
No issues whatsoever.
Should be getting one computer back online and possibly adding another (although they are all pretty old tech). Just want to get back to the front page.
Anyone watercool their 9800gx2? I'm wondering if I should get waterblocks for them. Are they that loud at full load?
THATS THE SPIRIT!!
http://bp3.blogger.com/_mmBw3uzPnJI/...sparta_001.jpg
Just bought another 9800gx2, that makes two, now I only need a 3rd one. My cruncher is gonna be a beast :)
I just replaced three watercooled 9800GTX's with a GTX295. The waterblock should be available soon. I'm looking forward to some serious folding, along with my PS3.
-nebj00la
:wtf:
I'm going to have to start replacing my 8800gs's and gt's now. You guys are starting to turn up the heat.
Just got back from the UPS store and my package said delivered but the store was closed. So, waiting another day to get my 9800gx2 pumpin :(
I'm just happy to be back in the RED again :)
anyone have any experiences with the Phenom II 's? I think I'm going to get rid of my Q6600 gem and go with a PII 920 because clock for clock its a lot faster encoding and that's mainly what I'll be doing on that rig.
I don't yet but I will in April or May :p:
i havent done any encoding on my phenom2 940s if i remember correctly there is some stats in the amd section im still playing with my ocing and tweaking its going to take
some time .
Well got my 9800GX2 running here is what shes at now. I'll try some OC'in this evening:) Now is it true only overclocking the shaders will show improvement?
http://i39.tinypic.com/2mcj1oh.jpg
I'm tempted to buy an Phenom to dual boot XP and Gentoo on it.
Pulsar: To start the greatest benefit is from shaders, then a little from core and a tiny bit from mem. My advice? Starting from stock step the shaders up in steps of 54. If you are lucky you will top out at maybe 1890 or 1836 or 1782 depending on your card.
Old info but read this: http://www.forums.pureoverclock.com/...ead.php?t=4258
just curious why increments of 54?
Rivatuner will let you select lesser amounts but as in the link nothing happens until the clock you select is nearer to the next 54 increment then it will "snap" to that setting. If you enable hardware monitoring In rivatuner you will see this happen. As for why.......
wierd...I'm using GPU-Z and its showing every little increase I make. Right now I'm testing 740core/1850shader and making 5450ppd on each core :) I'm having to use nTune to overclocking because through rivatuner its only letting me overclock one core.
http://i42.tinypic.com/2dabvc4.jpg
Think this is what I'm sticking with :) an extra 1.4k a day I'll take it!
It's got to do with how clocks are generated on a GPU AFAIK. You have a basic crystal on there that oscillates in this case with 27MHz. Every other clock on that card will now be generated by multiplying this base clock to reach the final clock which the component will run on.
Just thought I'd let everyone know newegg has recertified EVGA 9800GX2's for $220 in stock here just picked up my 3rd for 3-way :)
yea sorry 3-way crunching :)
Does anyone know of some cheap 9600GSOs? I would like to pick up a couple of them. Matching, preferably, with a dual slot cooler or something like that to help on the noise level. I'm talking like $85 for 2 of them, ya know, like some of those EVGA ones from newegg a while back that people were getting for like $35 bucks :D
Did anyone else notice that the new nvidia drivers don't create cpu usage at all?
you guys still all F@H like mad.
I have a Dual slot eVGA 9600GSO.. the 96SP.. good version NIB for sale $65 shipped!
I just found this facebook application group for F@H. Join the team here.
Just some random questions.....
What kind of PPD do Q9550s get with a single SMP client?
Have the HD4870s caught up to the Nvidia cards in PPD?
Well finally getting my AMD build sorted out with 3x9800GX2's and well have two in there right now loaded and my Kill-A-Watt is reading 610W and 5.07 Amps(so glad this isn't going on my electricity bill :)). Lets see how this holds up its only an OCZ 900W PSU and BTW crunching 22k ppd as of right now.
I would guess about 2k2 @ 3.4 or if you ran two SMP's you could be getting maybe 3k5
No they haven't ......points info: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.ph...4263&start=195
Okay I'm trying to run a 3rd 9800GX@ but the 790FX I have it running on won't recognize it at all. I tried different bios, different drivers and nada. Does anyone think they can help me get this card running to help support the team :)
Which board is it?
0o0o0o0o0o0o sexy tme:banana2::banana2::banana2: 900W of crunching goodness.

i dont trust giving away the use of my processor unless its by an official organization like red cross or something, otherwise hackers could be using it for all i know, and as we all know hackers are garbage and should be cleansed with fire.

and im sure everyone at sanford university has a heart of pure gold, im sure none of those people are hackers and such and i can trust giving them access to my computer which has vital personal information..sorry but your argument fails once again, id only have absolute faith in god to be all up in my pc like that, and thats how many others feel.
 That's what i get for trying to convince this random guy at gamespot to run F@H.Quote:
not to mention running a pc at 100% ALL THE TIME will burn it out in no time.. plan also fails the university has massive funding, if they wanna use part of my pc they can pay for the privilage, their sponsored by multi-millionaire's and such, they got way more money then me, so they can burn out their own cpu's
Well actually my problem was with the motherboard tray. Since the tray only has one slot for that 3rd card it wasn't seeding correctly. I had to bend the backplate on the card to have it fit correctly and it recognized the card. I don't know about this setup though. After about 30 mins of folding the machine will just cut off. I'm thinking its a heating issue or the fact its a 900W PSU and drawing 860W is putting too much stress on it and killing it.
Just multi-metered my 12V rail and....11.84V I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Here is another question I have, does the link speed of the PCI bus have anything to do with point production?
No. Link speed has no effects even at 1x you would be fine.
Your 12V rail sounds low if that is a DMM reading. What PSU is it again?
OCZ 900W ModXStream, I guess when I get my CorsairHX1000 back from RMA I could give that a shot and see if it is in fact a PSU issue. Right now I'm trying down clock everything else to help raise the 12V rail right now its back up to 11.92
AFAIK ATX convention is that the rail needs to stay within 5%, yours isn't even two percent off. But when you say 'cut off', is the whole thing shutting down? Then it still is a PSU issue IMO.
I'm also interested in that links speed question, did anyone confirm if pulling up PCIe from 100 to, say 115MHz, has any benefits?
Yes it just cuts off, like it wont freeze or lock up or anything like that. It will just straight click off and then I need to reset the PSU before I can turn it back on.
That really sounds like you're torturing your PSU atm. :)
Yea if it does it once more, its going back on the kill-a-watt and starting some voltage tuning. I'm using a 900W PSU whats the max constance usage? I find it wierd its a 900W PSU and I've drawn on upwards of 940W.
900W output. But at say 80% efficiency it could really be pulling 1125W from the wall.
Okay well it seems down clocking the cpu and lowering the cpu and nb voltage got me stability. Overclocking the cards is limited with the shaders @ 1775mhz. The middle card in the sandwich keeps flashing unstable machine, pretty sure its due to temps currently showing 94C. Maybe I'll go to watercooling...you think a Thermochill PA 120.3 could cool all 3? Heres a SS of progess.:D Ever since I had this rig folding I had to completely turn off my heat my room is 27C.
If you go water, grab some of those EK 9800 GX2 blocks on sale at performance-pcs. $40 off each one right now. Click >>> http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=23628
The thermochill should do it I'd think, with moderate speed fans. I can't imagine it being any worse than stock air.
Hmmm spend $420 on blocks or put that money into a i7 build with a GTX295...dilemmas, dilemmas :( I might blow it on the blocks purely so I can sleep in peace without my noisy Ultra Kazes spinning. Lets see how much I can get back on my income tax.
Instead of changing the psu has anyone thought of just adding one?...supplying one card with a separate psu
@wfo...what fan are you using?
I may I got a OCZ 400W in my MM case running dedicated for dual waterloops. My Lian Li has a slot for a PSU maybe I'll move it over.
So it's on ?! :lsfight:

:p:
You take a piece of wire or a rocker switch and connect it from the green to a black(ground) connection on the 24-pin cable.
Or, what you can also do is connect the green wire from PSU2 to the green wire of PSU1 so they power on and off together. That way you can't accidentally forget to turn the secondary on or off and potentially fry something.
