Severance, is that your idle temp? or stressed (or is it stressed :slobber: )
Do you have water cooling?
I've haven't tried manueel timings with 8x400.
With 9x33 i did, i had 4-4-4-12.
Will try that as well and lower the Vcore.
cheers mate

I have an idle temp measured in core temp of 50˚C. Under Orthos load it goes all the way up to 83˚C. Maybe I'm crazy, but so far everything is good. This is my 24/7 setup, 1.425v on my E6600 for 390*9.
I can let you know when I start seeing some problems. Who knows? Maybe I never will
That was 80% stressed but like i said im water cooling and coolant is chilled to about -10. Also cooling the chipset but without voltmods it does not help much. also the x6800 runs a bit cooler then other chips.Quote:

Decent price but they should be coming down month to month now. 500 is not "easy" but certainly possible.Quote:

It is NOT easy to get to 500fsb with this board. Best you can cross your fingers for is mid 400s, however the board performs on par with equivilant 680i and rd600's with their highers fsbs and clocks for some reason. I read quite a few reviews with people that had rd600s that were benching in the 450-500 range that had pretty much the same superpi scores that we get on our 975 in much lower fsb.Quote:

Since my hardware issue just ended up being my ram, i'm not going to replace my mb and just stick with this guy for now. I'm content with my performance even though my cpu is a melon and is walled at ~3450-3500mhz on any multiplier.

My friend is gonna give me his P5W for testing, cause i might replace my P5B Dlx with it (just otu of boredom) but now im concerned with this degrading of OC over time.....how wide spread is that?

Just for fun I tried to use the (top 2) usb ports on the motherboard again. Now these 2 ports worked fine too, no more unwanted restarts!
Just to see what would happen next I took the pci usb card out again (after all, the P5WDH Deluxe doesn't have an abundance of pci slots ;)) and again tried the 2 usb ports at the back and amazingly enough they still worked properly, no restarts.
Now, the the unwanted restart problem has shifted from the back usb ports to the 2 front panel usb ports, if I leave anything in these ports during shutdown, the pc restarts!!
And you dont have any extra cooling for the northbridge or mofsets ? also, what cpu cooler do you use?Quote:

I bought this board on the 5 Jan with the Qx6700 ... gosh what a freaking nitemare, this got to be the worst choice i have ever made in 20 years of playing around with computers.
Here is the email i sent to Asus recently. They have not replied.

Email Subject: P5WDH ???
Email description:
Dear Asus,
I am writing to inform you regarding my recent
purchase of the P5WDH Deluxe board on the 5th of Jan
in Singapre. After hearing raving reviews about how
this board is, i decided to pair it up with the QX6700
quad core. Having spent over S$2000 on motherboard and
CPU alone, I was excited with the new system. I picked
up the system upon returning home to discover a
shocking 78 degrees on the CPU temperature upon bootup. I returned
to the store. They checked and
there was really nothing wrong. Out of the brilliant
service, they replaced a new Quad core CPU and a new
P5WDH deluxe board. We booted up and the results
dazzled us. It was similar hitting over 70+ degrees.
We crossed checked with another brand 975 board to
discover the temperature was at around 30+ upon
booting up with the new CPU. Suggestion was made to
update the bios 1707 and it cured the flawed readings.
I wonder how Asus have decided to put a Quad core
ready sticker on the box when the temp reading do not
comply!!
I returned home feeling more confident this time. As i
was reinstalled the new OS, I was faced with more than
1 minute wait at the bootup screen, I had to stare at
my own watch as i patiently wait for the so called 1
of the fastest machine available on the island get
into windows. Inside windows, the benchmarks were
great. Outside of it, it boots slower than a pentium3.
Infact the waiting would extend over 2 minutes and i
had to try my luck rebooting. I cannot help but feel
dumb over this bootup affair it was like playing dice.
I rearranged the rams, checked the master slave
relationship of the system. Booted up with 512 ram on
various configurations. The shop could not handle the
situation as such incident was unheard of. This was
extremely strange. I disabled the Q-fans and it helped
alittle.
Just after a day, a new problem surfaced, I have yet
to come to terms with the no signal input with my
monitor and auto cut off on the power supply after 5
seconds. I returned to the store the following day to
learn there was nothing wrong with the Nvidia based
6600 video card upon cross checking with the
technician. I returned home facing a no video signal
and the system cutting the power supply on its own yet
again. So i had to return with system to the shop. I
thought the 550 watter could be the source, so i opted
for a 850watts which seems overkill for the system
running 4 hardrives and 2 dvd writers. It booted fine
and so did the 550watts! Anyway, the shop exchanged
another mobo just incase. I upgraded to 2 slots of 1
gig ddr2 rams to replace the old ones just incase.
Though there was nothing wrong with the 4 slots of 512
that i had, they have tested them in earlier trouble
shoot. With this 3rd motherboard in 1 frustrating week
of running around. I have spent the money and still
without a proper computer to use. 12/13 Jan weekend
was spent on the DIY of the setup, though i had to
return to the store again for a faulty 850watts PSU
whose fan didn''t spin making it the 4th trip to the
shop in a week. I installed windows only to find the
OS was detecting 1 CPU instead of 4 reported from the
bios. I set everything to default and it came up fine.
After hours of hardware arrangements and software
installation, with the early hours of the weekend
morning I am left with blisters on my thumbs. I was
truly exhausted with the whole affair from the week
and remain hopeful for the new computer to work. On
13Jan Sunday, i could not boot the system again after
the long hours i have put into installing the system
myself the day before. Please do not call me a newbie,
I had own 386 i was a kid and had hands on experience
with computers since.
If u may allow me to reinstate on the fact, this 3rd
motherboard has the latest firmware, my hardware are
all new other than a few harddisk and the existing
videocard that is less than 1 year old. I had to
destroy all the hardwork that i have put into
assemblying this system. Stripping it bare, for
testing and flashing, what amazes me is the P5wdh
powers up on it own even with no contact and dies off
a few seconds later. This is a hair pulling
experience.
On Jan 15, instead of seeking the shop for help, I
went to Big3 who distributed the board here in
Singapore. The technician was shock with the board
that boots up on its own once u connect the PSU. The
new board he got from the box with the quad core ready
sticker too reported the temp at 90+ degree cel. I had
to tell him that the bios below 1707 do not work.
Anyway, he willingly exchanged the 4th P5dwh board.
10days have past I do not have a system running. Isn''t
it quite entertaining to realise 4 pieces of P5WDH
cost around the price of 1 unit of QX6700.
So i returned home, installed the new Mobo that was
verified to be ok at the distributor. I had to go
through the whole ordeal yet once again. Building the
system from scratch, i had been going to bed past 3am
for last few days and had taken days off for this.
When i completed building the system, the new mobo
replicated exactly the same problem with booting. What
makes it more interesting is the fact that when i
connect a USB item the mobo would boot up on its own.
I have spoken to tech savy friends, they could not
help but feel sorry for my phlight.
To be fair, I did have doubts on the Quad core
initially, so i sloted in the a 820 chip it booted
fine on with only the video card and ram connected. As
i added the rest, the system would hang at bootup. I
cannot even install windows to test the stability.
This deluxe board is a test to my sanity. And a
complete joke at that price. I have wasted time and
money on the extra trips for exchanges and earn back
similar failures.
I am through with this so called premium board. I have
gone through 4 different boards of the same brand that
refuses to work even on a 1 year old chip that boots
fine on a 945 mobo.
I shared the story with the shop, they were very sorry
for the incident and kindly allow me to choose another
board and even refunded me the difference. Prices had
decrease since i bought my setup and i was setback
with a deluxe board that refuses to work. This is my
last Asus product purchase. If you can kindly inform
what could have gone wrong i am most interested to
know.
In the meantime, I am writing to you from my Quadcore
running on 965 DS4. This thing rocks.
Best regards,
Re 1803, I don't know if it was this bios but I've just had my first ever bad flash, it stopped at erasing the bios. Thank god for crashfree bis recovery, system now is up and running with 1803....
ChrisC
Ive flashed.. but every time i boot i get "CMOS checksum bad" or something similar. BIOS settings is restored to default values every time i boot :P is it something simpe to solve this error? else back to 1707 =7Quote:

Wow man, I really feel for you and what you had to go through regarding your board. There are fixes for pretty much all of the issues that you have if you were to tweak your bios manually a bit, but I'd say go with RD600 for quadcore. The bios is still in its infancy for it, but people have a lot of hope to get their quadcores overclocked well beyond the 975chipset range.Quote:

I noticed that Probe 2 first now at higher OC's have started to shows this 256c cpu temp that i read about. anyone know why this happens?
Is this good hardware i have? or is it average? iam pretty sure it don't suck at least =)
Okay I have some very interesting news to report in my mind.
My friend has this:
Asus P5B (original, and factory BIOS)
E6400 L632A @ up to 3.55ghz w/ memory voltage limiting him on stability, or @ 3.35ghz stable (419 x 8 ) (Scythe Mine)
2GB Team Xtreme 667 @ 4-4-4-10 w/ 42 TRFC @ 2.1v
EVGA 7950GT KO
650w BFG PSU
Not only am I jealous of his memory timings given to him on the LOWEST end 965 board from Asus.
But we both have L632A's.... ( I have E6600 )
You see my signature
I have a WALL. Like a 300% wall....I just can't get past 369 x 9 no matter what. I am going to put my CPU in his machine today because not only does my CPU run hotter. But watch this screenshot of my computer running Orthos w/ Intel TAT running......
First of all my temps are pretty damn hot, one core is 4 degrees hotter at any given time it seems. I am running 1.4v on the vcore in the BIOS.
Alright now I won't post a huge screenshot, but here are the links
Before orthos.......and then while running orthos
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42...5L7/before.jpg
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42...15L7/after.jpg
Are these CPU reports accurate on temps? I felt my heatpipes coming out of the CPU and they feel warm....but not 85 C warm. And then I will fail orthos trying to see how low I can get the voltages and still pass orthos, go in to the BIOS and look at the cpu temp and it might be 62 C or so, meanwhile in TAT my CPU's will idle in a 79 degree room at 75 Cel, and 79 Cel
As I go in Intel's TAT options it does have on demand clock modulation in monitor mode only. And that is selected to processor....so my CPU exceeds 85 Celsius and one of my cpu's multi's goes from 9x to 5x? Because 5x369= 1860mhz.
Why does one of my core's go to 1.86ghz and the other stay at 3.32ghz while in TAT and running Orthos? Is my computer really running at these temps? I don't want to go buy a temp. gun just to find out.....
What I am finding out today is.....what my E6600 does on my friends board with my Scythe Ninja......because I think my P5W DH is messed up. I bought it used from a person who was going the 680 route because he wanted to run SLI 8800GTX's.........
Im seriously considering P5B line-up right now.....

I play around and test things with 2 systems.1-asus p5b deluxe,x6800,ocz-flex xlc 1150mhzwatercolled memory,2raptors in raid0. 2-asus p5wdh deluxe,x6800,corsair 8500c5 memory,2raptors in raid 0. The p5bdelux system is at 500fsb mem at 1200mhz. The p5wdh system is at 400fsb mem at 800mhz. All i can say is the p5wdh system blows the other away in everything i use these systems for. Unraring big files, games, just browsing through folders, browsing internet and there is no comparison at all. also intalling os is much faster with p5wdh. it just feels light years faster then p5b.
