have you tried going directly to 400?

Here is an odd problem for you guys:
Was just messing with my OC because things started getting unstable on FAH. Was at 500x7 @ 1.45v and so I just lowered it to 475x7 @1.45v. Things were still unstable so I went ahead and just backed all the way down to stock, all settings on auto. When I exited BIOS, the computer shutdown and tried to start backup. When it powered back on, no video came up. I've tried resetting cmos, reseating ram, proc, video card, leaving battery out for 15min. and taking the whole setup out of the case...and still no video on bootup. Any ideas what can be wrong and how to fix it?
Greetings! The only chance he has is to increase the vcore, while keeping the default multiplier.Quote:

So, 330/8*9=371, which is right between the "grey area" of 360-400.

I have a very strange problem with my P5B and 2GB TeamGroup PC6400 CL4:
If i make a change to the settings in BIOS, mostly the system won't POST. The fan of my 8800GTX starts spinning at full speed, and screen stays blank. I have to get out my Teams, and insert a TwinMOS 512 MB stick into the first slot, to boot the system again. Then i can enter the BIOS, and adjust voltage, timings etc. for the Teams.
When that is done, i save BIOS, and shut down the machine. After that i remove the TwinMOS and insert the TeamGroup again. Now comes the strange part:
Sometimes the system will POST, and other times it will not. I don't get it, i have set everything right in BIOS!
Also, when i power off my system for a long time, or when i reboot from Windows, my system sometimes won't POST.
What is happening here? Is my motherboard / RAM malfunctioning? Please help me with this, i don't know what to do and it is sooooo frustrating!!
Thank you!
You're not the only one having problems with the 8800 boards on ASUS P5B. It seems to be something incompatible. Probably will be fixed by ASUS with a new bios release.
Disable JMicron controller in BIOS (under onboard stuff). As it will be disabled, Windows will not find it and thus you don't need any drivers.Quote:

^^OK thank you very much. The ICH8(R) sata ports are the black ones right?

Is it software (non issue) or hardware (an issue) : If other than Intel software gets the proper info that a non issue IMO .
You can try BartPE (REATOGO's setup util ) or Linux LiveCD ?

I don't use AstaLa-Vista , but from XP its like that : if u don't use RAID you don't need its drivers , apparently Vista needs drivers for the PATA part of the JMicron (it offers RAID(w/eSATA) and PATA. I'd say same goes for Intel ICH8R SATA/AHCI .

I think that "juice" issue. It might be the PSU. Try minimal system config i.e give the 8800 all it needs , perhaps even by another (AT ?) PSU
Compare on how does the system behave with 1 stick (512 or 1Gb )

how and when do i install the SATA/AHCI drivers? i need to set drives to AHCI in bios and then reinstall windows rt? the drivers i downloaded from intel are in an .exe file...do i install them in windows after the installation of vista?
one last important question. my drives are listed as IDE in bios at the moment. if i change to AHCI, will i loose data on them? (i use raptor as OS drive and seagate as data drive; i have data on seagate and do not want to loose ANY of it.) thanks
We've tried a myriad of different FSB (from 300-405) and VCore from 1.225-1.4+. I'll tell him to try FSB in 400+ range some more and see if he can get anywhere.Quote:

OK I started having serious false boot problems with my P5B Wifi.
I had left my system on 24/7 for over a week. On my watercooled Qx6700 I had been orthos stable for 12 hours and no problems for week.
Then few days ago I turned off comp and had false cold boot problem.
This board had also done the false cold re-boot thing, but I read some posts here that stated this wasn't much of a problem of the P5B-Deluxe.
However, when I first got the board it would only false boot and re-start itself but last few days it would just false boot and then turn off.
Today I ran orthos for 9 seconds got an error and then the system stopped posting completely.
I have read conflicting information about the false cold re-boot issue on P5B-Deluxe in this thread and others, and I am unsure now whether this m/b was unstable from the start, or whether I may done something to it?
Later I will try to break down that system and test the m/b with my E4300 just to make sure that it isn't my Qx6700 that is fried, but anyone with the most up to date information on degenerating false re-boots would be helpful.
I am wondering if anything other than the motherboard itself could cause or magnify this false reboot problem, such as faulty CPU or PSU ?
OK. you are missing some basic understandingQuote:

2. I suggest you get & use ASUS drivers first. You start with defaults , right ? so ..
3. ASUS diskette ( and Intel exe ) include Diskette Creation tool for XP F6 kind of situtaion. Create for Intel and JMicron
4. install for what use-need JMB PATA or Intel AHCI
5. There is a part that installs later in the OS . Thats the Manager and driver upgrade if applicable.
6. I never used AHCI . You won't lose any data on the hardware level since AHCI is access mode. same as when you disable RAID Mode in BIOS and "no RAID Array" , but when ReEnabled - its back as was .
I suggest you simply don't connect the Seagate when installing on the Raptor , and have any stuff needed on CD. It would certainly give you a chance to check all relevant options .

You might be having a leak.
Once my PC self cold - started at 3 AM or so. Turned it was a short from leaked water.
exactly what I was thinkingQuote:

my computer runs like molasses. it runs fine, then slooooows down and my RAM light on the case lights up like it is loading everything into RAM. computer is non-responsive until it finishes doing whatever it does. Repeat couple mins later. This is on fresh install w/o apps except firefox and AOL IM. when computer slows down, task mon does not show anything at 100 percent CPU usage. i've disabled some services to narrow it down and no luck. Is this due to AHCI??
I also noticed under device manager I cannot enable 'write caching' it says this drive does not allow change in write cache.
Any ideas? maybe i should just give up and install vista as IDE.
@Ingenue007
I dont know , but I am getting my copy of both x32 and x64 Vista, so I will be installing it tommorow. So at least we will have a point of comparison. It shouldn't do that anyway.
So I will be having 4 OS on my comp, Winxp and Vista (x32 & x64), to test out the best OS at the moment for gaming and more important heavy workload. So have any of u guys had an experiance with mulibooting 4 of these systems. I use Bootmagic to separate them.
Also my computer started acting weird... I tried to make independent sound card by using that option in soundmax panel, to get my headset on front audio panel. It just didnt want to work... so I switched to AC option for front panel, and nada...All I got from this experiment was a dozen restarts, 1 BSOD, and 2 installs and deinstalls of drivers. And even more now I get random weird freezes. When in game, while downloading from net, and using DC++ oo local netLAN, at one point I just get a freeze with lost of sound. If I even manage to get to desktop, everything is frozen, and HD is like under heavy load... then it freeezes again for good. So unless restart u get a pretty picture to last you :D Anyone had any issues like that, and have anyone made front audio panel work as separate sound source... any input would be appreciated.
Oh god, sometimes this mb is driving me crazy... I wish I had a latest safety invention for that situation.. my head would hurt much less :D I think we should be getting with one with each ASUS board

ok i have vista working great now (knock on wood). took 3 installations. 1st was via IDE in bios and loading jmicron drivers which let to random crashes in vista and programs wouldn't run properly. decided to reformat using AHCI. changed to AHCI in bios and installed vista loading AHCI drivers using make floppy utility on intel's site. vista loaded extremely slow and computer felt like p166 running xp on 128 mb ram. it would run then pause more minutes at a time with RAM lights lighting up.
3rd install was the charm. i posted on asus boards asking for advice. reformatted and installed vista. did not load any AHCI or jmicron drivers. i let vista install everything from the disk. once loaded i created restore point prior to loading updated intel matrix manager drivers (ahci) in case that was the issue. loaded drivers no probs. continued to load other drivers (video etc). btw soundmax drivers suck; i can't get sound out of my 4 speakers, but can with default vista drivers. i then loaded the jmicron drivers via exe file. it asks if you want to install sata or plain IDE drivers; i chose plain IDE drivers for my optical drive. computer is running as it should now and all my apps work.
Anyone know how to install the P5B AHCI intel drivers for xp without it BSODing?
I did not load the jmicron drivers at all. Optical drive runs great. Listed as DVD/ CD-Rom Drives. Have you set up ReadyBoost?Quote:

How do you change the command rate on this board for the memory ?
Hi is there a guide some where or a special bios to get fatbody micron working on the P5B -D? I have tried that little trick where you dislodge the ram a tiny bit but only booted to bios once and that is as far i have gotten so far.
I have tried . All tries were at 2.45v bios
450mhz 4-4-4-4
400mhz 4-4-4-4
375mhz 4-4-4-4
Does any one have a solution please?
I did the F6 method while installing XP.Quote:
