becuase 800 shaders @ 1400 mhz would require too much power...:stick:?
so will they be hardware locked to the core speed, or could we speed them up just slightly?
dern 800 shaders... sheesh.
it will be interesting to see if the HD4870X2 is anything more than an on board 4870CF. because if it is a standard on board CF then the GTX 280 will still be the top card to get.
to the guys upgrade form 8800gtx cards. your not going to see much of an increase going to HD4870. yes there will be some but 30% is not that noticeable (all depends on game). you would notice a large increase going to a GTX 280 however. to bad it costs more than most people want to spend.:(
they could do a GTX survival kit similar to the prescott one linky
Luvin' that link. As an owner of a 3.2E Prescott I can confirm it was hot, hot, hot!! I am just setting it up with H2O cooling for my sister!! At 4Ghz its still an OK processor... Hmm just a bit power hungry....
I just hope ATI's 4xxx series will wake up Nvidia from their apathy since they launched the 8800GTX...

Some questions guys (I know this has been answered in this thread but I dont wanna search the whole 136 pages :p: )
Will be there a 4850 GDDR5 version?
Whats the best brand that has a better customer service, warranty and rma of the ati cards
TIA
No ATI reference design 4850 512Mb GDDR5. I don't think it would preform that much better anyhoo and you might as well grab the 4870 instead.
is the 4870 still coming out next week?
I'm just curious to see how the 4870 performs. Does anyone know if the 4870 will be reviewed next week (25th of June) along with the 4850?
4870 reviews should be out on the 25th but there will be a limited supply (not sure how much but less than the 4850)
To all the canucks, ncix has 4850's in stock. I'm so tempted to grab two of these badboys out of sheer impulse. But I'm going to try really hard to wait for the 4870 1GB cards.
Must.Resist.Burning.Hole.In.Pocket :D
If you're up for the problems of multi-GPU I say two 4850's will be a lot better for you than a single 4870, because it costs only $50 more.
I, personally, am thinking to sell my 2 8800GT's in SLI and get one nice 4870. Probably HIS ICEQ3 4870.
So what would the 4650 be, Low End? What about the 4450, Pile of Crap? I prefer to look at the 4850 as a Performance card, 4870 as High End, 4870X2 as Enthusiast.
The last bit I couldn't agree more, CF/SLi won't be featuring for me until they at least fully open up the profiles.
One last thing, although lower prices are great for the consumer, they could be reaching a point of stopping ATi making a profit. I'd much rather ATi made some money so they can put it into their next generation.
duno if this R700 pics where already posted, thought hexus pulled them down.
