What should those B2B settings be sunn??
I am going to go back to F8f again because it is the only BIOS that allows the PWM fan function to work on my new mobo, whereas with my other UD5 PWM works fine from F6 upwards...
I will let you know how I get on...
It is perfectly stable with the RAM @ 1200MHz and 4GHz o/c... well, except for only seeing 4GB insetad of 6GB...
Oh, and about RTL, I always leave them on auto, it wasn't that post by you that I was referring to, I think it was Lsdmeasap that posted a while back, telling me the way that these values should be set... I will have a look for his post just now...

Well, I just tested what Lsd said above about RTL, and what do you know, my system has now posted with the full 6GB!!
I don't understand this, it used to recognize all 6GB before by leaving the RAM timings on Auto and XMP enabled.. so why would it now need me to manually set RTL???
I am now going to try some stress testing with the RAM at 1600MHz and CPU @ 4GHz to see if it is stable or not...

I'm at 4.2, but my voltages are pretty high - Vcore at 1.375 and Vtt and 1.45
Also I havn't played around with it that much, but I'm only running the memory at x6 (1200 Mhz)
Hey man, I think those voltages you are using are pretty high tbh...
I can't remember the exact voltages I had for 4.4GHz, but the definitely weren't as high as yours are for 4.2...
I have just went for 4.2GHz atm and I have the Vcore set to 1.281v and QPI is @ 1.29v or something like that in the BIOS, but CPUZ says my Vcore is @ 1.264v...
Have you had a play around with the voltages to see if you can get them down any lower?
Your QPI is extremely high as well if you are only running the RAM at 1200MHz...
The lower your voltages the less heat as you will already know I am sure...
Anyway, I just tried to run LinX with the RAM @ 1600MHz, but it was a no go, so I am now back to 1200 on my RAM, but have enabled Turbo mode for the 21x multi for 4.2GHz... I am going to see if my system can run 20 passes at this speed.
Oh, and it is still seeing all 6GB of RAM... I am extremely puzzled tbh, though this has happened before, it will probably stop working again soon... I'm not going to touch any RAM settings in the BIOS this time, I will leave it as is, so that I know it isn't something I change in there that causes 2GB to dissapear!!!
Yeah they're pretty high, that's why I want to lower them. I just followed this guide to see if I could get it going.

So what's the difference between Standard, Turbo, and extreme?
and do you have load-line callibration ( I think that's what its called) enabled?
Yeah I have LoadLine Calibration enabled in my BIOS, I have also tried having it disabled as well...
As for Extreme/Turbo/Standard performace mode setting, I think extreme and turbo makes your RAM use more aggressive timings that's all...
Well, that's my system back to only booting up with 4GB again.. and I never changed anything in the BIOS except for disabling turbo mode to drop back to the 20x multiplier...
It has to be my CPU's IMC that is the cause of my problems, because I have changed over every other piece of hardware in this system except for the processor, and each configuration gives me the same problems...
I have tried various OS'es as well, and the same thing happens..
I guess I will find out on Wednesday when I get my Fiancees i920...

I don't think it has anything to do with the BIOS version, as I have tried all final BIOS'es from F5 upwards, and I am now on F8f, and it does the exact same thing with all of them...
I'm going to wait until I get my new processor delivered which should hopfully be this Thursday as I will be ordering it on Wednesday, then I can see if the new processor sorts out these problems.. if it is still the same however, then the only thing I can do is send all my hardware off to the techs at Gigabyte UK and get them to find out what the cause of the problem could be...
I have had absolutely no luck whatsoever with this system.. I really regret moving over to Intel now, and wished that I had went for a Phenom II based rig instead of this POS.... :mad::mad:
Don't get me wrong, if this system would run stable 24/7 I would be over the moon with it, but that just isn't the case at all... it runs stable for a day, and then it cripples the following day with the same settings...
I guess I will get there in the end however, though I just feel like I am never going to have a working i7 system, because it has been one problem after another, and I have spent so much money on new hardware to try and fix these problems, but nothing I have done has made a blind bit of difference!!!
Even after RMA'ing the mobo, and processor, I am still sat here scratching my head, not knowing why my rig wont work as it is supposed to...

On the B2B, i used 10 to get 20 passes of LinX , lower it would inevitably lock up.
But after all that, i use 21 x 191 now, lower volts/temps, tighter timing :rofl:
BLunTSmoKeR - Could you keep us updated when to change CPU's, i too have had loads of problems (prob not as much as you, sorry) but i switched from C0/C1 to D0 and had similar results with higher bclks and highier RAM speed, so i was leaning towards blaming the mobo more than anything else, i was thinking i may pick of a TPower fom Novatech (cheap) next week to have a play

I never knew about this novatech website before, if I had known they had Biostar Tpower mobos for that price I would have grabbed one of those instead of another UD5...
That is a great price for that mobos, as they are supposed to be quite good from what I have heard...
Might have to sell off one of my UD5's and get myself one...

Well, I have managed to find stable settings with my RAM running @ 1528MHz with a 4GHz o/c. but still only seeing 4GB out of 6GB, the CPUZ memory tab says that I have 6GB, but when I check the POST screen and the Performance tab in task manager they both report 4GB of RAM...

Yeah, I have an RMA number for my processor Johnny, but I haven't got the cash to return it atm... and I am going to be buying another chip for my fiancees i7 rig hopefully this Wednesday so I am going to wait until I get her chip first so that I can see whether that clears up my problems or not so that I know for sure if it is this current chip that is faulty, as I don't want to return my chip again and be told that it isn't faulty..
Whereas if I test the new chip first and everything works fine, I will know 100% if it is my processor that is bad, and that will mean I can tell the guys at OcUK that it works fine with another processor so they will have to replace it...
I left Prime95 Blend Test running overnight, and it was still running fine this morning with the 4GHz O/C and the RAM running @ 1528MHz...

I have tried having uncore @ 16x, and it was a no go.. tried 17x, no go, 18x, again, no go, so I tried out 19x, and it is stable...
Dunno why, as I thought it was supposed to be exactly double your RAM multi, but that just doesn't work for me at all...
Having it at double doesn't sort my RAM problem neither... I'm fairly confident that the IMC on the processor is faulty.
No it don't has to be exactly double of your RAM, it has to be at least double of your ram, faster don't matters.
The only problem with faster is, that the cpu needs more QPI/Ram Voltage.
When I was using the 6x mem multi, and I tried to set the uncore multi to 12x, my system won't even POST at all, but if I raise the uncore to 13x it works perfectly..
Does anyone else experience this problem?
Also, when I tried to set my Bclk to 160MHz on my new UD5, my system refuses to POST as well, I don't know why this happens, but it only does it on my new board, the old UD5 allows me to have 160Bclk..
And if I raise Bclk to 161 it will POST no problem...

Anyway, I have downloaded CPU Tweaker, and when I check my RAM timings on that, my RTL seems to be screwed up..
The first stick of RAM is always lower than the other 2 modules.. it is usually like 61-57-57, in the BIOS it is set to auto, I have tried manually setting them following Lsdmeasap's post on this tread, but it still only see's 2 sticks, and this happens with both sets of RAM...
Seems something is uber-screwy and if it aint your mobo, then RAM or CPU are the other obvious culprits.

Well, I am fairly confident it is my CPU that is faulty, if it isn't that, then I am one extremely unlucky guy to have purchased 2 faulty sets of RAM, and 2 faulty mobos!!!
The processor is the only piece of hardware that I haven't changed with all the different hardware configurations I have tested, so it has to be that which is causing my problems..
As you said, I will find out soon enough... Though I think it might have to be the week after next before I can get my new CPU...
I have been trying to get a hold of a Xeon W3520 instead of an i920, as I hear the xeons are supposed to be better for o/cing... but I haven't been able to find anywhere in the UK that stocks them, so it looks like I will just have to settle for another 920...
It would be really handy if I knew someone who lived close to me that was running an i7 system as well, so that I could test my components on their system, but I don't know of anyone so I just have to work with what I have got here...
In the Xtreme Overclocking section of this forum, people managed to overclock the pci-e bus to 130mhz on the EX58-UD4P, allowing much higher Bclk clocking, but this requires a hardmod. At this moment, it isn't possible to overclock the pci-e bus over 103mz as far as I'm concerned with any of Gigabyte's X58 offerings without this hardmod. Now I think I've read somewhere that the 1.6 revision of the EX-UD3R board fixed this and allowed users to raise their pci-e clocks above 103mhz without modding their board, allowing for Bclks over 222mhz. Could anyone confirm this?
And if this is true, does anyone happen to know if Gigabyte is going to release a 1.6 revision of their other boards as well, fixing the same issue? How long would it take for those to hit retail? I'm currently looking for X58 mobo, and Gigabyte's EX58-UD4P looks VERY tempting, but I'm really disappointed by their Bclk wall at 222mhz... :(

Gigabyet is not realsing 1.6 revisions they will be realsing a new X58A revision for all the boards which have a 24 CPU power phase set up and sata 3.0. Here is article, read up on the x58's.
Here it is, with FB Bios on EX58-UD3R rev 1.6, the bclk can fly over 223 limit
