Thx! Gonna try it as soon as I get home, because upping the PCI-express freq only works the first reboot. The second reboot results in a series of beeps from the motherboard and you have to clear the cmos :( .Quote:

-restart from windows and enter bios
-load default settings from the last bios page
-save and exit-restart
-enter bios one more time overwrite both oc profiles with default profiles
-restart-enter bios-update bios with ez flash 2-restart
-press F1 after prompted
i think this restart issue caused by bios management??(profiles etc.) coz this issue only happened when i turn on the computer from a completely power off state
And maybe this method can also solve the PCIE x16 ==> PCIE x1 prob? who knows
hope this helps

^ the restart on cold boot issue is due to the strap change though, mm I didn't know it could be fixed.

Is that normal?
Answer
Yes, that is normal. Due to chipset limitation of Intel ICH8 and above chipsets, system will require a full reset after such change is made to system to trigger the southbridge chipset.
hmm .. I found just the opposite with 4 sticks of ocz flex, needed more juice to post with 4.Quote:

Overclocking seems a lot more complicated than my old AMD X2 4400+. Seems that changing things often causes the system to not boot. I found that only mucking with the memory timing and FSB was fine. Stock temps are in the mid 20's idle and go to high 40's. Overclocking to 333mhz raises temps to low 30's idle to high 50's. I can boot at 400mhz, without modifying anything else, but temps go to mid 60's under load so I shut it down. This is with the stock cooler. Can't tell yet whether this is a good overclocker or not due to temps. Need to pick up a new cooler.
Goal is to run 3.2 or 3.4 with good temps. Now to the debate on a cooler without breaking the bank.
Ancient1: The Sata DVD drive I referred to is the Samsung SH-S183L. Nice to not have any big cables with all Sata drives...thanks for your help.
have you tried post to booting without out that XFI card?Quote:

My goal is the same as yours. 3.2 to 3.4 on air 24/7.
Not sure what your budget is but Scythe and Tuniq Tower are both highly praised. They are huge coolers though. Mine barely fits inside my case and I have one of those huge armors.
If your going to OC you might consider at least replacing the NB cooler. Or maybe just slapping a fan on top of it. I popped off the stock HS's and replaced that goop that Asus was using for thermal compound. When I unfastened the NB cooler it just fell off. And when I looked at it closer what a mess it was. That goop they put on the chipset was cracked. And the part where the heatpipe ran upwards to cool some other chips had this rubber thing between the chips and the heatsink. At least it seemed like rubber to me. It couldn't have been doing much but blocking the heat in. I wasn't expecting much from Asus but that was pretty bad. :slapass:
Need some Help please.
My P5B E6400 was working fine on phase for weeks, then i power on today after lapping my IHS and everthink is still working fine. Then my PC powers Off.
Now when i power on i get the CPU fan spin and a flicker of lights but nothing else?
Ive reset Cmos remounted etc. Any ideas or anyone had this happen?
Thanks
Go to sleep, refresh yourself, than retrace what you've actually done.Quote:

Vacuum clean (reverse too) would be a good idea IMO.

Well, after my second flash I have the Asus EZ update option in the tools menu again in the bios, and my alt + f2 during boot showed the blue window to flash a rom. So it seems like my problems were with a bad flash, or this board may need to be flashed a few times.
Anyway, I am going to reinstall windows xp later on with the onboard sounds disabled to see if that will also correct any minor stability issues.
anyway, gotta run.
Well I have G.Skill ram but only real voltage setting I've touched was the FSB Term I put at 1.3V when I started OCing it. That was all I changed and the ram clocks like a charm up to 480Mhz easy, any higher and I can't seem to hit anything.Quote:

Thanks Ace-a-Rue and pumbertot for the input. I left overnight with clear Cmos and still no boot. I have striped and got next to a heater for a few hours to dry it out.
sounds like condensation is the problem, first time from 2years of running various phase setups. :( shouldn't complain but its still a pain in the back side :slapass:
Will keep you informed chaps
What exactly did u do? that trick didnt work for me, i get BSOD every time... anyway according to ASUS FAQ it is not possible to enable NCQ in Windows XP, but it is within Vista... dou.... ,but who listens to them anymore anyway....Quote:

Still having problems with Soundmax panel, which will end when i buy a new sound card and disable this one...
U really have to have water cooled nerves with this mobo... but i guess it's worth it...
Hi
I would like to know what bios to put on my P5B Deluxe for max overclock with e4300. I now have the default bios 0614.
Use latest official bios from Asus Site. :)Quote:

Stick with 0614, its a good one ;)
It gives me an error at the beginning saying something about microcode bla bla bla. I think the bios does not recognize e4300 correctly. E4300 it's an Alendale L2 Revision.Quote:
