**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

I have officially given up on my qwest for a stable 3.6 with my Quad. It is on of the low vid (1.2125) models and I have decided that it just does not like the voltage required for the 50% overclock. I can keep Prime or Orthos stable at anything under 1.4825 and any MCH below 1.5 or so but that will only get just a 3.4 speed. Those settings will last up to 3 hours in Prime before it just shuts off. Trying any higher voltages and it just crashes faster. I have decided that ONCE AGAIN, I have gotten one of the runts of the litter when it comes to chips. I will now sit back and wait on January.

i presume you did my mod and applied some fans to the PWM and NB?...AND...did you remove the TIM pad?...i do not recommend using that pad since it is probably not the best transfer medium for heat...use MX2, Ceramique with last choice being AS5.

Hey Man,
I am at 3.6 and 3.8 but am not prime stable but i can play my games and do everything without crashing thats all i care about. do aces bolt mod if you havent it works wonders for temps. my comp reboots in prime as well and i have a go version which i know will go to 4 gigahertz with ease i just need better cooling:)

Does anyone know if it is at all possible to use the motherboard on-board optical SPDIF input to pass the signal over to a PCI X-Fi sound card?
I want to route an optical out sound signal via the on board Soundcard for 5.1 surround sound

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

You should benchmark your computer to see the difference between 3.4-5 stable and 3.6-8 unstable. You'll be surprised to see that an unstable computer won't do much better than the lower clocked cpu that is stable. That has been my experience.

I'm building a new Intel core 2 duo IP35 Pro system. I have booted from a Flash Drive and flashed to the latest BIOS.
It worked great.

I installed an unformated SATA HDD
in SATA port 1. I installed a Samsung SH-SH182D CD/DVD burner
in the IDE Port. When I start the system, it gets to the "detecting IDE drives" then it lists my HDD drive model in SATA 1 and the other 5 SATA ports blank, which is correct. It then goes to the next page
and lists (in a green color) "0DD0 TSST CD/DVD SH182". I'm not sure why the green color and what the 00D0 means. When I go into
BIOS I can't find any reference to any IDE drives at all. I'm trying
to change the boot order to my Samsung CD/DVD so I can install windows. In the boot order part of BIOS the only CD ROM that is possible to choose is USB CD ROM. What do I need to do to get this done? Thanks for any help

I have had my Abit IP35-pro for about a month now with an Ubuntu 7.10 setup and sometimes programs suddenly close (firefox in particular) and today I had a hard lock (freeze) on the system. Here are the specs

Mobo : Abit IP35-Pro with bios 11
Cpu core voltage Bios : 1.4850 gives 1.45 reading in the voltage monitoring. Is this correct or is it way off?
DDR2 Voltage = 2.150 (Running 4X1gb Crucial Ballistix 6400 sticks)
CPU VTT 1.2V = 1.23
MCH 1.25V = 1.37
ICH 1.05V = 1.09
ICHIO 1.5v = 1.55V

Memory timmings are : 5-5-5-12, auto, auto, auto, auto, auto, 1T, V.1.0a, Disabled, PCI Slot

All "Cpu features" are disabled

The cpu is a c2d 6300 running at 500X7. Memtest runs fine for 24 hours with no errors and i have tested with cpu burn-in program from ubuntu for at least 3 hours and had running also some high definition movies.

Cooling is done by a TR Ultra 120 lapped. The c2d6300 is also lapped. Idle temps in bios are 38-39 celcius

System runs on a hyper typer-R 580watt and a Fortron 300w only for the GPU (8800gts)

Anyone got any recommendations as to what could be the fault here?

Ace if this was for me, yes I did the mod on the second board. Although I did re-use the TM pad on the PMW area. Unlike the first board I had 12 indentions in this pad. The temps are only a few decrees hotter than the first board that had Ceramique there. But my overclock results are exactly the same as the first board. Try to use higher voltages to get above 3.4 or so and things just shut down. I can run up to 3.0 at 1.2125. 3.2 takes 1.3125. 3.4 takes 1.4125 for Prime. Up to 1.4825 will hold Prime until the 32k tests, usually. Any higher vCore and the shut downs come much quicker. That is why I think it is the chip itself, 3.4 is just the limit for this one. different motherboards, 2 sets of Crucial, and 3 different psu's, all with the same results, 3.4 ghz. Now if someone wants to send me a different Quad to test my theory :shrug:

I figured this out myself! In the BIOS when it asks you to choose
boot device I did not see the scroll bar and wasn't going down far
enough. The CD/DVD was listed there. Sorry for posting this.

Hi "DD"!...glad to see you again...AND...very glad to see that you have the Pro board...you made a great pick!:up:

as for your problem, i would recommend raising your MCH to about 1.48 since you are using four sticks of memory.

the other two voltages to raise are your CU VTT to 1.35 and your ICHIO 1.5 to around 1.65.

you need to be aware that this board has given users some headaches when using four sticks of memory...other boards do the same.

what do you have your MCH and ICHIO set to?

Forgot to add that the PW area temp stays around 52 Celcius with the settings I have posted.

4gb's of ram are picky i know :mad: I'll try to stabilize the board by doing your mod and sinking some parts of the board

Plan on oc a Q6600 w/ 4GB (4x1GB) on water. Will post my clock when I get it setup.

Please report back on how the 4X1gb overclock went when you get the board up and running. Be sure to give detailed info on timmings and bios voltage settings :D

Hello. I have this problem with ABIT IP35pro. I can install WIN XP PROFI SP2 from INSTALL CD. In BIOS I see my 2x250Gb MAXTOR SATA1 HDDs. ACHI is disabled (IDE mode enabled). Install starting OK, but when I choose HDD for instalation and press ENTER PC show this problem: THIS HDD does not contain partion compatibile with WINDOWS XP.

What is mean? THX Neller

you need to partiton the drives...formatting is not required, just make them into a primary partition and make sure one of them is set to "active".

if you do not have a windows OS installed to do the partitioning then i presume Maxtor has a utility to make the drive ready for windows install.

Yes, it is lapped. Big rubber washer used in the mount and it is solid as if bolted directly. When I get MCH above 1.5 and ICHIO above the corresponding step, forget actual voltage, it is just like getting vCore above 1.4925. It just makes the shutdowns come faster. The Quad just doesn't seem to like higher voltages. One thing I found while trying Orthos instead of Prime is when using only 2 cores 3.6 is no problem. Change to the other 2 and 3.6 is still no problem. Just cannot get it to use all 4 at that speed. I am open for suggestions.

Hy,
Is your drive recognize as CHS or LBA mode? You need to be in LBA mode to boot an Windows OS. It might be not that, but it happened to me with a brand new SATA hard drive. Check the internet and the maxtor's tools on there web site if you need to change the mode.

neller's problem is the drive...it is not partitioned and set to be active...this has happened to several guys in this forum including myself...the bios is set to 'auto' and as long as he does not fool with that setting, the board will recognize the drive in the proper format.

I left the pad on the PMW area but used Ceramique on the NB and SB. It was an experiment to see any difference between the pad and Ceramique, which I used on the first IP35-Pro I had. I will probably change it out as the temps are not as low. I had read in this thread how some were doing the bolt mod but using the pad so I tried it to see the results.

On a side note, I decided to do a test last night to test 3.6ghz, but not with Prime or Orthos, but more along the "Ace" theory of will it work with what I do with the computer. Voltages were set to 1.4825 vCore (1.37 actual), 1.47 MCH, and 1.65 ICHIO. Speed was 8x450 with ram at 1:1.2 for DDR 1080@2.2v, 5.5.5.18. I then encoded a movie using CCE using multi-pass VBR. I have seen this scenario crash a Prime stable AMD system before. Encoding went off without a hitch. I then ran 30+ minutes of rFactor without a hickup. Maybe I am putting too much emphasis on Prime for my situation.

i would recommend removing the pad from the PWM and use a good thermal paste...my 1st choice would be ceramique but you do what you think is the best for your system.

as for prime 95 or orthos...i just read a post where this guy built this overclock system for another person and before he sent to him, he ran it for 24 hours on orthos without a hiccup...but...after the guy used it and went to move it to another location, it would not post at all....he thought he had built a solid system that was fool proof...my point is, and i think you understand now, that prime 95 or orthos guarantees you nothing....SO...why bother unless you are going to fold 24/7...there i see prime 95 or orthos might prove to be a valuable tool...but...that is the only one that comes to my mind.
