Boy, I am getting tired of the long beep with three short beeps to follow when
I bootup.
what is the difference between cmos clear and a new bios update?
Cmos clear just resets the bios settings to default. A bios update changes the bios version (ie. the code which runs the motherboard).Quote:

i believe its when you unplug power cable, set cmos to clear and remove the battery for 24 hours.Quote:

I updated my p5b-d with 1004 bios, it looks great but I wanted to change it older one for memory test..
Well, I found that 1004 bios can't be downgrade to older bios..
I tried AFUDOS, EZflash, ASUS Update, but nothing works..
Anybody tried it? If someone succeded it, plz let me know how to.. :(
I guess you should have read this firstQuote:

:nono:
You'll have to order another bios chip

**Do not use AsusUpdate to downgrade BIOS. For such need, please use EZFlash or AFUDOS instead**

Now it's changed.. lol..
That was before they posted it on the main bios page.:p:
I saw the red warning letters and decided to play it safe and read about it here first before I tried it:toast:
Return the board ASAP. Don't even think about anything else.Quote:

I'm having some harddrive problems.
Specs:
Asus P5B Deluxe (Bios 0910)
Maxtor 200gb sata (6L200m0)
Vista Ultimate
I noticed that while playing audio and video files I was getting a lot of stuttering/freezing, so I ran a HDD benchmark

I tried switching SATA ports, which didn't do anything. I've installed the latest intel chipset drivers too.
Any thoughts? This drive was working fine in my old system (on a DFI NF4 mobo)
It looks like you're SATA is configured for IDE in the BIOS - which is the default for that motherboard. Change it to AHCI. See page 4-14 of your motherboard manual :)Quote:

You did install the Vista Version of Asus drivers ? also, you could get Intel's latest (early januar 07) directly .Quote:

It is even possible to have a normal hdd, plus 2 hdd's in RAID on the Intel controller?
If you're going to use RAID, then I would use the SATA_RAID connector on the motherboard. That connector IS set to AHCI by default, whereas the standard SATA connectors are set to IDE.Quote:

The SATA_RAID is the jmicron right?Quote:

I assume I need to install the Intel driver first, before I can set it to AHCI. Problem is, the setup won't run saying that my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements. The Intel driver has vista support (http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...stems&lang=eng)
