I'll definitely jump on that bandwagon then. And definitely hope for the best.Quote:

Tomorrow my Opteron 170 will come back to me... It arrived with 2 pins completely folded (according to the AMD datasheet, 1 pin was for HT and the other was for VDDA).
I decided, although that thing, to try it, and those are 2 rapid tests:

P.s: In the second screen, clockgen can't correctly recognize the memory divider (120)
your result with mora2 aktiv? stepping VPMW batch?:D nice temp ;)Quote:

I picked up 2 opteron 165 chips from newegg last thursday. I had them shipped overnight and received them friday. Stepping on both cores is CCB1E 0605XPMW 000042/000070. The batch 42 chip ran stable (dual prime) at 2.9ghz with 1.37v. I have it running now at 335x9 ~3.02GHZ w/ only 1.48v for stability. I used this chip for my initial testing and found the computer was completely shutting down as soon as CPU volts went to 1.6v . I thought surely this was a limitation of the chip and tried the other 165 I received. I booted it at 311x9 with default core voltage and ran dual-prime 95 and I determined it was stable at that voltage. I then increased to 1.6v and found that my system yet again would just shut down as soon as it attempted to load windows. Realizing that neither chip was to blame, I immediately went and picked up a truepower2 550w to test with instead of my neo he 500w. I reinstalled my batch 42 core and tried to boot at 1.6v again. Instead of shutting down, the system basically would just freeze with a black screen before loading windows. I spent the weekend testing the batch 42 chip and I am quite pleased with it. As it turned out, 1.6v hasnt been neccesary for ANY speed. 1.37v boots 2.9ghz, 1.41 boots 3.0ghz but requires 1.47v for absolute stability. I have yet to reinstall the batch 70 chip, but I am sure it will behave similar to this one.
FYI- I am looking for a home for my secondary chip.

wow, go newegg!
Ordered a couple of 170's just to test my luck. Will let you know when I receive them and test them out.
I am HOPING for 2.8 stable, since the memory can do that!
got a 170 from Meat Frog today. CCB1E 0550VPMW. Took the lid off already and put it under my Storm block. Its been priming for an hour 2900 1.42v so far. I have tried for 3Ghz but even at 1.55 core 0 failed after a few minutes. Although 3Ghz is not prime stable, im sure 3 or even 3.1Ghz will be benchable.
That's too bad. My core 0 gave me trouble. When I was priming at 2900 at 1.488v, I thought my chances for 3G were slim. Fortunately mine scales pretty well with voltage. Not the best CCB1E 0550VPMW but it goes 2700, 1.3v; 2800, 1.4v; 2900, 1.488v; 3000, 1.5v, 3050, 1.536v, all prime stable. Gonna pop the lid and put under storm. I had to keep the load under 40C for those results. Hopefully that can be accomplished 24/7 with water and no top.:D
interesting.. maybe my vpmw is the same.. seems to follow that pattern.. I was hoping it might scale well at the top end.. I need just about the same vcore to stablize 2.9ghz.. 1.475 + 2.8% (or whatever the lowest v bump addition is). I thought 3ghz was not an option as a result.. but who knows.. maybe it will be? I can only hope. :)
Just remember to keep temps below 42ishC.
I think I have reached the thermal limit with this cooling. Core 0 fails Prime 95 @ 2800Hz in 20 seconds. I am happy with 2700 on air. Can't wait to see what it will do on water in the next couple of weeks.

ya, these chips naturally run HOT. With the IHS on i was hitting 47-48C, but now that it is naked it sticks at 38C dual priming... It does idle a few degress higher than my old 0546XMPW too. This one sticks at 31-32C where as my old one was at 28-29C.Quote:

hi guy's its been a while! I've been having another go at getting my 170 higher than 2.8ghz, my progress is good but it doesn’t seem to make much sense to me. I started by upping my clock to see if i could get it prime stable at 2.85ghz but it wouldn’t have any of it! would only prime for an hour and a bit. I thought maybe if I upped the vcore to 1.475v that would help matters, well pretty much instantly it failed prime, dropped it to 2.8ghz again and it wouldnt even run stable, just like 2.85ghz it failed instantaneously. temps seemed fine at around 50 load. I dropped it back to 1.4v and it ran stable at 2.8ghz again like b4, I though why not have a stab at an even lower vcore. I tried 1.36 and to my amazement it ran stable at 2.85 and then 2.9ghz. but would fail 2.95mhz after about 15mins. again i tried a lower vcore of just 1.34 volts and I managed to get it to x2prime at 3ghz until it stated to get dark outside :) heres where im at...

anyone had similar experience with there dual core?? this goes against what I believe about overclocking cpu's. at one point i was stuck at 2.7ghz with this 170, nothin seems straight forward with this chip!!

I had the same experience with my CCB1E... I started out running it up to 1.55v to get 2.8ghz, at 1.6v it was shutting down.... So after eliminating the PSU as a possible problem, I backed it down to stock and just started raising vcore when it needed it... Lo and behold I was at 2.9ghz default vcore and only needed .10 volts more to hit 3.0 . I remember saying,"Oh my gawd!" when it booted happy at 2.9 @ default......:eek:Quote:

You need to run two instances of prime my friend. ;)Quote:
