2006 x2 3800 Manchesters

Hey folks.. i've been following this thread, and its very intersting :)

I have a 0601 UPMW from TankGuys..

On easy water (CoolerMaster AquaGate Mini), I was 2.8Ghz Dual SP2004 stable at 1.5v. Its an "N" chip. I was really hoping for a "T" chip.

Right now I have the CPU under DICE running PCMark2k5 right now.

Its at 3.2Ghz at 1.55v. I bumped it to 1.60, but not much difference in performance. I figure since its an "N" no need to really go beyond 1.6. How much more volts do i need before I see increase performance?

Oh.. I have a question to.

How the heck do you do with the tcasemax info?

My tcasemax = 71c, TDP: 89.0Watts. Is taht good or bad? What does that tell me?

High transistor leakage, good overclocker is the lore. Try 1.65v for a short while, see if you get anywhere. 1.55v on phase gives about 3050, so assuming linearity, you may get 3350. Or not, if it's just walling at 3200.

THanks for the quick reply. I put it at 1.7v.. didn't get much :( Not even 3.3.Ghz. So I took it back down to 1.55. The temp on teh base stayed in the high -50c. So I figure I was safe to bump it up a little ;)

Actually over 1.55v, my vCore starts to fluctuate. So maybe its the power. I'm going to see if I can try a differnet board and PSU in the next few days. But a 3.2Ghz absolutely benchable at 1.55v is pretty sweet :) I was just hoping for a 3.3 or 3.4 benchable :(

Hmm, maybe a 3200 wall is it then? But yes indeed, 3200 / 1.55v is very nice. I found 3200 to be about the limit for mine... though I only tried up to 1.68v.

I wrecked my 3.3v rail doing 3320 with a 4600; good idea to try different.

these new 3800+ are really great. I may sell my old one and buy one of these. I found two pieces (0605 EPAW
0606 DPMW) but i didnt find any results for these steppings..0601 week are really hard to find now.

reposting in this thread in case it gets lost in the x2 overclocking thread..

after some limited gains seen on my previous x2 3800+ toledo core I'm getting the itch to swap out my proc with one of these 06 x2's after reading all of your experiences.. I've done some digging around locally and located a few different options..

Anyone have any input on which one would be the more desireable week/stepping?

ldbhe 0601 fpmw
ldbhe 0602 xpmw
ldbhe 0604 cpmw
ldbhe 0605 ????? (didn't get the last 4 letters for this one)
ldbfe 0607 spmw

I can pick up the 0607 spmw for ~280 in a combo so I was originally leaning towards that one but after reading some of the discussions in the T or N thread about the higher first letter being the most desireable (xpmw , tpmw , etc) I was hesitant to jump on it.. also I'm not sure how the 0601 fpmw compares..

My plan is to use air initially .. dfi lanparty sli-dr w/ thermalright si-120 + panaflo 120mm fan in a p180 with upgraded fans.. but I'm also considering going to water.. phase seems very costly but very desireable.. so i think im not quite ready for that yet..

any input?

As i mentinoed 0601 UPMW "N", I'm running 3.2 solid at 1.55v in BIOS on DICE. No apparent sign of Cold Bug. I think I can bench at 3.25- to 3.28. Pushing vCore to 1.65 and 1.70 didn't give 3.3.

Any advice or tips on how I can get 3.3 or 3.4 benchable?

Can anyone from the UK recommend me an online supplier to get a x2 3800 Manchester core with the 2006 steppings? ive tried getting in touch with overclock.co.uk and overclockers.co.uk but they are pretty useless at telling at what stepping they are - they either have no clue or dont get back to me.

Sorry I'd have to disagree. On my 0601 XPDW T chip, it wasn't voltage senstive at all:

2465 MHz @ 1.15V
2610 MHz @ 1.20V
2755 MHz @ 1.26V
2900 MHz @ 1.39V

Anyway very stable at 1.5v (1.475 hinted at instability) and 2500 on air. 33 idle, 48 full load; cool & quiet enabled, computer case closed. I'm sure I could get more but that was my initial goal and this thing has to be my regular everyday computer.

Hi and welcome. I'm still a n00b here myself really. :)

You're right - your TcaseMax is a bit of a shocker; I've seen those kinds of numbers before on single cores and believe me, you're doing well with that chip at 2500. What cooling do you have? stock HSF? Temps seem about right for it. You might probably get more from it with better cooling.

Clearly OPB wasn't kidding when he said TPMW was a decent chip. I bet under cold that would do a whole lot better.

@Brut: Clearly that stepping isn't a classic...yet you still have faster than an X2 4600, for half the price.

Absolute_0, nice 3gigs man. Now you have 2 amazing dual cores!!

Mine is priming right now at 2920 1.42v for 45min. I am trying to get the volts to drop a little so that It might run 2900 @ 1.39. That is my 24/7 goal, as my aquagate mini just can't handle the heat load. I'm loaded at 40C now, and my room is about 20c. It's still new, so I may be able to push up the volts and get to 3.0, but I'm gonna take it slow.

I've began the testing of my LDBHE 0605DPMW, and so far the results do not look that promising. I'll post some clocks once I have some defined results.

Seems it would be best to stick with week 1s; the later ones don't seem to be doing that well.

yea, i think that other than 0601, you are hit or miss. Some are really good, and some aren't.

The main problem with this chip seems that the two cores are very different.

Core 0 likes volts, whilst core 1 likes low volts. If the volts are too low core 0 will fall over, of the volts are too high core 1 will be the weaker.

If it could make up its mind whether it likes volts or not, it would be half decent chip. :p:

yea, that is strange. Not sure what the fix for that is. I wonder if the ihs might be unevenly settled, where 1 core has better contact than the other.

Hopefully once it gets settled in it'll oc better.

right now I'm priming my LDBHE 0606EPMW "T" @ 1.4v and 270x10

Will post SS once I'm 100% sure it's stable. Temps are at 41 C on load, and around 21 C at idle. Using a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU.

After I took teh screenshot, I opened MS Paint, pasted and saved it then burnt the jpg to a cd-rw.. everything was smooth as silk but it did lag a little when I put the cd-rw into the drive but that was just because the drive was pre-spinning the disc. So what I'm trying to say is, I think it's pretty much stable at this OC... Any advice?

Hey I've been going through the whole thread. I'm looking at picking up an x2 3800+ next week. Are you guys just shooting in the dark and hope you get a good week or are their vendors that give you a choice.
