That 22 C, is that evap temp or CPU temp? If evap temp, yes, very scary!Quote:

PS - thanks for more info, I'm just trying to understand better about quads and phase!
Here are some instructions for settings up multiple primes 95's

Thanks..I just ran 03 and I think I have top score on this forum as well.Quote:

as far as stability of the cpu, it's fine at 4.3 to 4.35 for benches.
Orthos ...4.2 is rock stable.
I have too many cpus/mb's kicking around ..and am into a benching mode these days.
Once I settle on a cpu/mb combo for my 2 24/7 computers, then I'll worry about orthos and the more real world tests.
To date, I have run the quads at 4.2 Ghz/1.47v orthos stable for 30 minutes at a time on any pairr of cores. Running small/large /blend ,etc.
22C is the cpu temp as read in probe 2 on the asus p5n32-e sli or in speedfan on the evga 680i
The one vapochill (strongest out of the box) developed a bad temp sensor, so when I replcaced it, I placed it right onto where the cpu and evaporator meet.. It reads more realistic than the oem location which is probably 15 to 20 C colder.
My other units do not perform near as well, so I am having Jin build me a good one at the moment.
Then I'll send him the vapo's to see what he can do with them.
No question , a loaded quad core can create a lot of heat if the voltage is high.
Strange how one of mine just seems to be getting better and doesn't create all that much heat.
I couldn't run it over 4.3Ghz very relialy, but today , it decided to run at 4.35 without a hitch
the other one is struggling with 4.275Ghz at the moment.
Ahh very nice. The above statement I quoted about "any pair of cores", do you mean you are disabling two of the cores to get these speeds? What about having all 4 cores enabled, what is the best orthos stable speed/voltage?Quote:

Wanted to have a cooler single stage so I just went back to X6800 for the time. Am intrigued to get my SS back and test out my X6800. I think with 45nm Quadcore will be better, but until then it is simply too much heat for 24/7. Maybe the occassional bench is ok, but if your cpu is at 22 I wouldn't be running it for very long.

I run 3dm06 on 4 cores at 4.3Ghz.
I think that these chips need a little more burning in (possibly).
The better of my 2 quads just doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the other, and now likes 4.35Ghz @ 1.74v on the evga board.
Thanks for providing all this information.Quote:

The reason why I ask is because if I open two instances of dual core orthos It only does 50 percent usage on the burn. So for me I use prime 95 and modify the shortcuts and then I have 100 percent usage.
Please let me know if the test you did was 50 percent or 100 percent usage.
Thanks very much,
Steven
To JIN ...if all this is cluttering up your post, let us know so we can take it to a new post
thx
I did some testing using 2 instinces of dual orthos running simultaneously. Here are some preliminary results.
All testing done with quad core on evga mb, vcore set to auto and on stock vapochill.
I set the second orthos to run on cores 2 and 3, the first orthos defaults to 0 and 1
All 4 cores loaded cpu usage is 100% this one is at 3.2Ghz cpu at -12c
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1165852057
This one is at 3.733Ghz cpu at -3c
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1165852057
This one at 4Ghz cpu at +3C
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...1&d=1165852057
So, in my case as a daily driver at 4 ghz, this isn't all that bad for a 50% oc on a stock vapochill.
on a side note, the evga board did quite well, in that vcore was set to auto and showed up as 1.18v in speedfan. if you can see, under load the board bumped the voltage up quite a bit to keep up with the load. I think around 1.48v at 4Ghz.
I am sure that you must be getting better results with your Jin units?
No problem at all. This helps me figuring out my future strategy definitely.
RJW, I appreciate your patience in giving us this information. It is important, for the sake of knowing what to realistically and practically expect from the phase units, for us to have some points of comparison, 100% orthos stable being one of them. Thanks again.
RJW is graciously lending me quad core and motherboard for me to load test this week. Hopefully I will have my testing here indendently done while working on few units to find out which way would be best to go and have new references on load condition.
I think that we may be looking at the limits of the current quad core rather than the phase units.Quote:

If I am wrong, then I would like to see the results.
I believe that the fellow over at vr-zone got his up to 4.75Ghz on a cascade, but stated that it wasn't benchable or stable in any way.
Looking forward to what you figure out Jin...the stuff is on its way. I will pm the tracking info
Hey guys,
I tested the quad more today and finally got stable at 4.0ghz. My cpu needs more volts then rjw's. Here is the screen shot to compare.
(Jin the controler display in the front of the case read -34 during this burn if that helps out. )
Thanks RJW for posting your results it helped me out.
EEEk... -34c on display... that sounds like to me on the edge temp :P Just be careful to keep an eye on it so that it doesn't shut down your system.
also seems strange that his cpu temp in speedfan is 9c while mine was at 3c with stock vapochill?????
same mb, same cpu, same software monitoring?
However, if you look closely at my 3.2 and 3.7 ghz tests, speedfan shows system temp at 127C !!!
Need some new software I think.

I will probably have to lower the speed a bit to get it stable longer.
was your cpu temp still going up or did it remain the same?
Mine rose slowly to 3c at 4ghz, but actually stayed between 2 and 3 c after the initial rise.
Freecableguy is supposed to come out with a plugin for mbm (motherboard monitor) that will read the temps of the 4 cores.
I suspect that perhaps Intel does not care to match the 4 cores as far as what heat or speed they can reach. So if one core is overheating, the whole cpu takes a nose dive.
It's always a problem when you get the first run or the first generation.
Out of 3 that I have tested, they all had different heat/voltage characteristics.
1 ran super hot and required lots of voltage, another was better and thankfully the 3rd one likes low voltage and runs a lot cooler.
Mind you I just oc the best one a little more.
I have 4 E6600 chips that have similar differences. I can oc one of them to 4.7 Ghz, but the other 3 fall short by a bit to a lot
My ex6800 is a real dog. It can't do more than 4.2 Ghz withour having a crash attack at will.
Hopefully Jin will figure out what to do with these quads.....:)
Working my ass off on it for last... 5 days? I've built change, etc of about 15 iteration at this point. (2 vacuum pump running 24x7)
well, if ups doesn't mess up, you should have a quad and mb in your hands tomorrow, or should I say later today.
That should add to your workload a bit, maybe??? :)
While I am working on figuring out new tuning needed for quad core, the vapomods and (gasp...) cascade is progressing on on side.
I wanted to mention something to people about importance of shipping... this isn't first time and this won't be last...
This is Yoxxy's vapochill that came in original packing I believe.
http://www.vapoli.com/images/Forum/IMG_9781.JPG
Notice what happened to the foam? This IS VERY common. Out of about 10 units I modified (2 of them local and 8 shipped to me), only 2 units didn't have this kind of damage. It doesn't matter if you put securing screw in there as screw doesn't have ANY leverage on bottom of case and will actually bend case when it gets shocked... Fortunately, this one didn't suffer much damage I think.
http://www.vapoli.com/images/Forum/IMG_9778.JPG
Basically sidepanel dinged by force of compressor knocking on it. It might have been from factory... Yoxxy can confirm that.
http://www.vapoli.com/images/Forum/IMG_9782.JPG
Strangely enough LCD on this unit just lights up with Chill control I have in hand. I am wondering if it is mismatched version or something. Please, when you send in modification, send in chill control with the unit guys :) It's much easier to eliminate all the potential problem up front. In the mean time, I had another customer's chill control and LCD handy to use.
http://www.vapoli.com/images/Forum/IMG_9783.JPG
Ambient is tad cool and compressor didn't quite warm up on this quickie run :)
It could be that also diff version of chill control with diff version of probe... regardless, unit is tuned for 200w load :)
It will be instapacked double boxed as usual and will be shipped out on monday :)
How is the quad stuff going
are you ready to tweak my unit yet? :)
Keep us posted...
What do you mean yet? :) I have been :)
Just going through much eating of cap tubing and iterations of recharging... :)
I think I am quite close to getting there atm.
As for the vapochill, Is LCD display of -46c at 200w good? :)
Hey Jin, see this vacuum pump?
robinair copy? could do miracles if you would literly take the website's word :p
